  1. Mark:

Please remark on the following, if possible:

    - vertical viewing angle (can you boom the camera through entire range without image reversing out or losing brightness)

    - how it handles overcast skies (does it white-out at reflective angle)

    - sharpness (can an assistant pull focus from it with HD source),

    - side mounts (are they at center of gravity of the housing, so if mounted in a yoke it will rotate properly without falling to one side)

    - any other notes on why this may or may not replace a green screen for good?

    thanks!

    aloha charles,robert and nick

how are you robert well to answer your question no i don't have an ultra

i'm flying the sachtler hd,sdi pro so i don't have a yoke to support the monitor

and nick yes this is the monitor

and charles "wow" heres what i can share

and by the way great questions

    vertical veiwing:

i didn't notice any veiwing loss within the full boom range

i beleive the viewing angles are around 45 degrees left to right

around 20 degrees from the top

and 45 degrees from the bottom

    overcast skies:

not a problem its not perfect

but you can still do your job

    haven't had any white out

    sharpness:

the picture is sharp and pure

i personally think it looks better than the red monitor

i have compared the nebtek side by side with other monitors

in that price range and a little above

and i still think that the nebtek panel has a better quality

    but still just my opinion

    side mounts:

    there are no side mounts

but i would think in a pinch there are top and bottom mounts

and the monitor has image flip 4 ways

and i can only assume that you would put the connector side at the bottom

to make it botom heavy, not sure if that is what you would want

since i don't have a yoke system on my sled

so i'm really not familiar with this set up

    green screen:

replace the green screen probably not

but like i said for the price to me it's a real winner

    and its built tough

and your new reel that is some insane stuff

it gives fantastic foresight on steadicam operating

    very very inspiring charles

  2. the new hd,sdi,sd nebtek monitor worked beautifully today

in full sunlight not a cloud in the sky

360 shot on the beach shooting with the red camera

this perticular shot took place around 1 pm today

never lost picture at any time during the shot

and for the price of this monitor i'm totally happy

and its built rock solid full metal housing

loop thrus on all sources hd,sdi and sd

might not be for everybody but for the price it's a real winner

and the guys over at nebtek are all super kool

    aloha and fly safe

  3. what else helps is if they are using follow spot operators

see if they can't tighten up there there spots

if they see or know that you are going to attemp a shot

it will help with unwanted shadows

    especially on the 360's

and like rob says you gotta wear your blacks even the socks

    most of all have fun

Hi all just wanted to get some suggestions from you. I have a live music concert shoot coming up and I have been told the director has a few shots he really wants, and other than that they want me to shoot what I want. what would you do in your spare time? any cool shot ideas I should try out

its a 5 cam plus steadicam shoot, all HVX200 nice and light. they also want back stage stuff. thanks for the input

  5. hello andre

i have the artemis hd pro sled with a 24v upgrade

and have been very happy with it

super solid done alot of running shots and no signs of unwanted vibrations

and the battery placement options are second to none

craftmanship is very sweet, vest is very comfortable

i am running a g-50 and g-70 arm there hard to beat

service from curt schaller and jim davis has been fantastic

they really do there best to service you the way you would expect

if your rig is in for a service they will happily send you a loaner

    happy shopping

Satchler Artemis Cine HD. I tried it out at the NAB show in Vegas last year. The sled seemed very nice and sturdy and was very modular and light with a three battery set up. The vest also fit me very well and felt very comfortable, strong, and light with a pretty thick chest spar. The arm was the only thing I did not like because of the boom range, or should I say, lack there of.

I?m looking to upgrade my sled from my old steadicam efp. I did not run with the rig on so, I was wondering how sturdy the sled really is? Is there vibration? How good is there X/Y top stage? How good is the gimble even though I would probably want to replace there gimble and monitor bracket with XCS?s. Your advice is greatly appreciated.

  6. aloha guys

sorry to get alittle off track

this stuff doesn't keep you warm but it's

loaded with "titanium" great for blood circulation and pain

and it's thin enough to wear under all the other stuffs

    the company is called "PHITEN"

they make nice long and short sleeve shirts

that look great, as on stage blacks

    they also make other products

    such as necklases,wrist bracelets,knee support,underwear

    etc.etc.,all for aches and pains

    and it works for me

damn i sound like a sells rep

i'm not, just sharing a fine discovery

    thanks to my girlfriend

  7. "hello alec

what would you suggest to do about a company from another country

    such as australia"

    Mark,

Ugh. I truly hope John can work this one out for you. Out of country is tricky which is why I insist on COD for these jobs, but alas that does not help you now. The emails may indeed count as if it were "in writing," but I'm no legal expert.

I'd say keep at them. If someone you know (i.e. John) lives near them have them "stop by." Maybe contact the equivalent of the better business bureau.

I really wish I had better advice for you. Persistence is all I can offer. Keep at em!

    Good luck.

    alec

it worked,i kinda sent an email stating not to use the footage

until our business was taken care of

    first an email

    then a phone call

    monies being wired today

went to bank today wire is in process

    yaaaah

    along with the phone call,

they said they were super happy with footage

    same as stephen lesson learned

    thanks to all

  8. Stephen,

Tell them you are sorry you can't come to terms and inform them they no longer have the right to use your footage as ownership reverts back to you. I once did a corporate gig where the end client was a museum and the product was a virtual tour of the museum. Once the production company kept screwing around with me on payment, I notified them that I was going to contact the museum directly telling them they had to remove the virtual tour from their web site since I was not paid for it. While obviously, I would have had little recourse if the museum ignored me, the production company folded and paid right away because I think they were worried about looking bad in front of their client (who was a huge one for them).

    Good luck.

    hello alec

what would you suggest to do about a company from another country

    such as australia

    came to hawaii shot

    but yet no payment

all agreements via email, but unfortunetly no paper

i hope not to have been kangarooed

    thanks mate

  9. have a look at the jvc gy-hd 100,110,200,250 series

    lens options are very nice

and it seems like the first full length feature (gabriel)

    was done with this camera

the steadicam flyer will handle this camera no problem

for alot of info on the dv style cameras

    go to the dvi forum

    loads of info

    best of luck

I'm getting ready to buy a camera and am torn between the reliable and proven HVX and the new Sony EX1. Some people have been trying to tell me that the Sony will have a better image because of the larger chips and some tell me that it looks less film like than the HVX. If you guys with the HVX were buying today, which would you get?

Also, anyone have any idea when or what Panasonic will come out with to replace the HVX?

  10. Hi!.

I´m looking for a zoom control like J-7 (Cinema Prod.) or similar for Cannon lens. I´ve the wireless Aladin (Focus, iris and zoom control), but I need one that I can use from my sled.

If you know some one please send me the link. Thanks in advance.

    aloha armando,

don't know of the one that you are looking for

but did you try the stanton jimmy jib web site

they make a zoom and focus control for the steadicam rigs

    they are actually very nice

and they will do both the canon and fujinon lenses

also has a record button on the zoom/focus handle

and it has a directional swith for the zoom "in and out" features

    www.jimmyjib.com

  11. Mark- just pull the pin and align the parts as shown in the photo.

The mating parts have two possible positions.

The "in" position works better with the mounting armature and socket block on the side as it is with "back-mounted" vests.

I should mention two things: that pulling the pin just the same operation as flipping to goofy foot and back, and this "in" and "out" is only a feature of the G-70 arm (aka "the kickback link.")

    Jerry

    thanks jerry your da man

  12. Check page 65 (the second page in this PDF): http://www.steadicam.com/images/content/U2...BackElement.pdf

That should give you an idea of how it's supposed to be aligned. That's from the Steadicam Ultra2 Manual. ( http://www.steadicam.com/filmUltraManuals.html )

    thanks tom and jay

i have the same pics that came with the manual

but no details on how they swap it around

or how to disassemble the arm if needed

i can see away to do it but i just want to make sure

how they at tiffen do it the right way

    best regards

  13. received my new G-70

tiffen suggest swapping the bracket around

between the socket block and the arm

to use with my back mounted vest

    has anyone done this

    how did you do this

i don't want to start taking things apart

    without knowing

and is there a detailed maual

to take the arm apart for cleaning and such

any help would be much appreciated

    thanks to all

  14. any suggestions on a good glue for the foam in our cases

    to keep them together

    Hi Mark,

3M Super 77 foaming adhesive will do the trick. It was recommended to me by the people at Anvil Cases years ago as a foam to foam and foam to case adhesive. It's usually available at Home Depot. The can I have which has lasted for years is a very large black aerosol can. It's some serious stuff so be sure you tape off and mask anything you don't want it on.

Drop me a line or call sometime and let me know how the world / island is treating you.

    aloha robert

buddy thanks so much for that sticky tip

i'm going to home depot today to grab some

    i'll call you here soon

  15. by chance jeremy

    are you from new zealand

    All Walter K converts,

I am contemplating going with the back mounted masses, I've never met or spoken to any operators who have been dissapointed. Just wondered, having looked at the WK site can anyone give me any feedback as to whether the Trad Deluxe is substantilly different to the Universal, on the face of it seems like very little to choose between them, except price.

    Thanks, Jeremy

  16. found a av500 on ebay

    very nice price

called archos for the docking pod

but they say they don't make the docking pod for the av500 anymore

so i got the travel kit which is for the av500 and the av700

    it does the trick

i've used it on my sled and on my jib arm

it's actually a very kool tool

and it looks good in direct sunlight as well

    best of luck
