  1. hey jimmy- where are you shooting, when, and who's your op? i know there are a whole bunch of guys sitting around in l.a. who'd gladly come by and hang out, chime in, assist, act as a peanut gallery, ohh, and help too, of course! well asked questions, by the way. there are some very seasoned d.p.'s who treat us way worse than you have already started out! good luck!

  2. thanks to all of you for the bday wishes! 40 freaked me out so much that I ran away to Canada! And ron, I really needed the lisigav at the airport! When I stepped off the plane the drug dog jumped on me! I kid you not! Needless to say, I'm not stupid enough to bring drugs into a country that has better drugs than we do! After 2 hours of them interrogating me and destroying me stuff, I was wishing for some lisigav cause my vag hurt! How's that for a happy birthday present?!?! Cheers to all!

  3. hey ya'll! For some random reason, I'm in Vancouver for the next day and a half. I'm hanging around with some time to kill tomorrow and was wondering if any of you Vancouver folk feel like getting a drink or pointing me in the direction of good eats? If you feel like talking shop or politics( that requires drinking!) give me a ring: 310/ 880 2233.

  4. tim- i'm selling my buddy's almost new master vest. it's a few years old, but has never really been worn. he bought it, hurt his back a month later and never pursued steadicam. there are no sweat marks on it even. it needs the back straps and we may just get those put on to make it totally current this week. he's asking $3500 obo for it. make a reasonable offer and i'll ask him about it. i'll send pictures when i get a moment. thanks.

  6. i have two old school cases sitting around. they measure 28"x16"x12" & 28"x16"x16" on the exterior. both are dirty but in really good shape. they have metal edges and latches, so they take a real beating. they'd be good as vest and arm cases or for moving midgets through customs. someone come get these cases out of my garage. they need to be used and i am not the guy to do it. i'll give them to you for free or you can bring a six pack of beer or $500.00 cash, take your pick. they have a lot of life left in them. call me @ 310/ 880 2233

p.s. the pictures i took are too big a file, so if you want pictures send me an email and i'll send them off forum

  7. ask your grips to get some mud track. it comes in 4'x8' sheets like ply, except it's made of thick plastic and is much lighter and easier to move around. just bury it like anything else and get to work. i also reccomend a lot of calf work at the gym before you start the job. they're gonna burn after a day in the sand. good luck.

  8. i think you should have to be over thirty, be able to drink more ounces of beer than your i.q. in an hour and have a poor attitiude in general to qualify for this hike. that would leave b.j. and matt out but include ron and i, i think. there are too many sunny days in the lives of you two whipper-snappers. help me out here ron. i'd love to go, but yet another year of work before overextension at altitude.

  9. yeah, ron, you're right. i love the grip trix cart. i'm actually here in s. carolina with herb alt, who invented the thing. he's the key grip on this movie. i just finished out the week shooting off the cart while george clooney tracked next to us on a replica 1920's harley motorcycle with sidecar. the cart will do almost 40mph and it gets up to speed almost too quickly. i advise always wearing your seatbelt on the thing. i hope it's warmer in l.a. for you guys. it's friggin cold here. hope you're well.

  10. dan- i love my portable, water resistant (read- dunkable) garmin etrex 60csx. it's tiny and easy, but does not give you audible directions. i throw it in my outrigger canoe now and in the car and i'm taking it with me on the next location job so any rental car will have it. it really saved my ass in baja when my built in gps ran out of known road maps. but, if you just want one for the car only, the nuvi and the tom tom are the 2 most recommended. good luck navigating through all the available features for them though.
