  1. oh skunker- boy have you opened up a big can of worms with this one. i can't wait to read this thread. we have all done numerous "standi-cam" or "bi-pod" shots that should have been done on sticks or a dolly. i am sure we all will do many more, but there are definitely correct tools for every job. a screwdriver can be a hammer or a chisel, but really, it's best at being a screwdriver. i have only seen dailies from one operator, (props to larry mcconkey here) where the d.p. and the director had no idea that a series of motion filled inserts (100mm. or so) were in fact on the steadicam and not on the dolly. use the right tool for the job and understand the definition, ability, applications, and limitations for the tools you have available. my two cents.

  2. anthony- i'm of the opinion that even if colin is working that weekend, we should still be able to use his house. since i know how much colin likes a good party, we could take pictures and leave them posted in say, whatever room the captured activity occurred. that way when he walked around the house he could feel like he was there with us. what do you say? also, i have a pack of single, attractive women from the last movie i did, and since i have a fiance, should i bring the hard drinking, flirtatious lot of them for anyone else?

  4. hey doc- i just want to know if it's hard to use the wheels when you have it mounted like that? when you get to oregon, say hi to peter green. and make him laugh whenever you get the chance. he is much more effective and helpful when you humor him a little.

  5. gentleman- i would just like to add my two cents after following this ridiculous thread for a while. as i see it, based on my past dealings with steve, he should be allowed to have the multiple sign in names as he always seemed rather schitzophrenic to me. maybe he really has several people living in there. as i recall, no business deal was complete without the price changing several times in the course of a conversation, much less a week. no turn around date was ever recognized as having been given in a preceding conversation. it was like dealing with different people every time you got him on the phone, if you could get him on the phone. but i do remember him being very helpful in one situation where another unnamed gentleman was ripping us both off. other than that, why are we encouraging him? and steve, here's my name up front.

  7. michael- correct me if i'm wrong, but side to side adjusments are made on the vest side while fore and aft adjustments are made on the socket block on the arm. which arm do you have? and which vest? we might be able to give better advice if we know which models you have.

  8. oliver- try my friend byron's japanese/ sushi restaurant on sukhumvhit rd at about soi 36 (just a block or so past the nike store, if i remember correctly). if you are at the sofitel i know, you'll be just down the street from there. he's an american kid who went to thailand as a tourist and has stayed the last 8 or 9 years there as a soap opera star. good guy. tell him geoff from california sent you. other than that, rob is right, there is no corner without good food on it. and don't let rob send you to any bars in patpong alone. lastly, we want pictures from bhutan when you get back.

  9. oliver- all the advice about acclimating is very correct. although all my experience has been simply backpacking and such, there is one little secret i will share with all of you. siberian ginseng! the purer the better and the longer in advance you can start taking it the better. it helps process oxygen into your blood and helps you to adjust faster. it alleviates some of the discomforts and effects of the altitude but will not help with the breathlessness and fatigue. it is really helpful when trying to adjust. good luck
