  1. After the triax runs under my arm, it comes around to the front of the vest where I put a velcro strap for the strain relief. hope this pic helps.
  2. I always used to run the triax up over the shoulder, it would have a loop of slack, and then go over the camera. I have been experimenting with different ways to run the cable over the past couple months. I now run the triax down the back of the vest, around under my arm, and to the rig. On the front of the vest there is a small piece of velcro which holds the triax close to me, and has just enough slack to move anywhere it needs to. I instantly noticed a difference in the way the rig would rest. I think this is the best solution when dealing with triax.
  3. just a follow up: I got some Specialized bar tape, and I am in love with it. Solved all my problems. This, along with finding a better way to tether the camera with triax has made my operating better this week. I have much more control with fine movements. Happy Holidays!
  4. That arm intrigues me. The pictures show one section of the arm sort of parallel with the ground (how I like them), and the other arm section is sticking waaayy up. I wonder if the operator in the pics had it set up wrong, or if that is the intention. When you get that rig in the mail, post some pics and/or video.
  5. Interesting. I like that idea and am going to try it out. My biggest issue is going to be securing where the two triax meet on the vest... Today for example, I could feel it hitting me in the back with every step. In the past, we have had problems with the connection taking hits, and I think this is why. If only Wireless HD was cheaper...
  6. The simple explination is they took 2 of the Panasonic DVX's, and pimped it out. They re-wired it to get an uncompressed 6CCD HD image, and it is being synchronized by 2 mac operating systems in the rear. On the side of the camera are 2 firewire drives recording the uncompressed footage. It was pretty crazy looking into the binocular-viewfinder... I was surprised to see the blue walpaper of a mac and the 3D Image being rendered right before my eyes. Maybe I should have posted this under Cameras. oh well. There might be a better picture of the camera and rig. Jason from 21st Century sent these to me this morning and offered to send some more high res pics- I thought the motion blur made me look cooler, AND there is a reason my face is always BEHIND the camera!
  7. Last week I had the opportunity to fly the 3DVX3.5 It is a very interesting camera, and i'm sure it is going to become even more popular. Considering what this camera is capable of, it is pretty light and very easy to fly.. The guys from 21st Century are cool, and you should check out their site: 21stcentury3d.com
  8. Rob, just out of curiousity, what does the collar you machined to fit around your EFP gimbal look like?
  9. Thanks for the info! I'm going to try finding some handle bar tape with a carbon fiber print B)
  10. I mostly use the Sachtler Artemis EFP HD rig, and the gimbal is pretty good. My one issue with it (or with my hand) is the machined metal is somewhat smooth, and within minutes it seems to get a little too slippery for my comfort. Any material I could put over the gimbal to give it a bit more grip? I dont want it to be too tacky or sticky though. Just wondering if anyone has ever dealt with this same issue... thanks! anthony
  11. Has anyone experimented with running the triax down the arm? I really liked this method, except I could never secure the triax in a way I liked off the end of the arm. Basically, the triax had a small loop, but instead of wrapping it around my arm and over to the vest, it tied to the arm near every joint, and at the end of the arm attached to the main triax cable (which is where I could never find a reliable way to secure it). It did make me feel very free and more flexible. I would dock the rig and arm together, and be able to walk away in the vest. I will try getting a picture in a couple days if anyone is interested.
  12. Maybe fashion could become a more important part of the workshops. Tim Gunn from Bravo could help out
  13. I'm jelous you get to use the SK

  14. I am 6'3" and running the rig shorter will not really lower the lens height. The heavier batteries will just be further from the ground, if that makes sense. You need to extend the lower part of the rig (below the gimbal) to compensate for the weight above the gimbal. In fact, if you go out and just buy heavy batteries, in some cases you might be raising the camera height a little bit, because you will be lowering the gimbal to compensate for all the weight on the bottom of the rig.
  15. i cant get the pic to post, but it was really funny, and came up when i searched google. here is another thread: http://www.steadicamforum.com/forums/index...amp;*qpid=31418

  17. I would say personal preference. If you want to run your rig shorter, you will have to use the heavier batteries. If you want it longer (thats what she said), you can get away with less battery weight. I am torn on what I like better. The more veteran ops I share a rig with run 2 AB dionics, and a AB propac on the very bottom. This seams to be a pretty easy way to make the rig really short, but it also puts the gimbal a little lower than I prefer.
  18. If you bought such a serious rig, the temptation would be too great, and you might bite off more than you can chew and take a good paying gig. It could seriously harm your future reputation as a steadicam operator. It will not say in the credits you were just learning- it will only tell us your name. If I had a ferrari as my first car, I would have gone the speed limit for the first 2 days- and then i would have put the pedal to the metal and you would be laughing about it on youtube ~anthony
  19. It would also be great if we could mount the controller closer to the gimbal. The mount makes the controller sit way too high ~Anthony
  20. When you come up with a solution for the cable running off the stanton controller, let me know! It is not only really stiff, but way too long. ~Anthony
  21. The Flyer would be the best investment, and you should try really hard to get that... but if you must pick either the glidecam V25 or the SK2, I would go with the glidecam. I have used the SK2 many times, and it is not my favorite. ~Anthony
  22. The soul cam is basically a remote controlled blimp. Very cool. Seems like less of a hazard- for the camera operator, that is. Wouldn't want that thing flying into me though
  23. Anyone check out the Planet Earth series by the BBC? The shots are amazing- I was trying to figure out how they got some of them- and then they answered it. This very interesting hot air ballon/ultra glider thing. check out the dvd about forests. While the camera man and pilot were in the contraption, it crashed. I found it very funny, although I bet the Camera Op wasn't laughing at the time. I will try to find a picture of it. Anyone else know of crazy un-known contraptions made for film/tv? ~anthony
  24. I actually just worked with John (Little Leauge World Series) and for the record, he is a good guy. ~anthony
