  1. P O S 100% first and absolutely foremost ... glidecam doesnt allow the gimbal to be moved... you will never achieve dynamic balance with a glidecam and if you do i feel bad for how much time that must have taken... STEADICAM is the one and only rig... not only that the Zepher is one of the latest redisigns. the x-22 is just a crappy knock off of their other crappy rig the Smooth Shooter...

Kelso, sorry but I have to correct your wron statement. X-22 sled does have a no-tools gimbal like it's big brother, Gold and X-25. And it is not that hard to make dynamic balance. Also it is not a copy of Smooth Shooter. It is more like their discontinued V-25. However, it doesn't have multiple power and video connectors, including HD like Zephyr. For that reason alone, I think Zephyr is a better system and Tiffen did a good job on this.

I don't have a neither system, I own a PRO 2 sled and GIldecam Gold sled. And trust me, I won't trade my GC Gold (Ford?) with Zephyr (Ferrari really?).

Also there's another post about this topic a year ago.

  2. With nothing mounted to the camera stage, (no follow focus, no camera, no camera plate, no cables) Lay the rig on it's side and balance the batteries and monitor until the lower section is balanced so that it neither rolls to the monitor or the batteries.

I use a little device called 'Micky' made by Markus at Baer-Bel and this simple device makes the above procedure so easy.

If you want to see how it works, check this YouTube video.

  3. Only one day left with the starting price about 1/3 of current retail price!

B&H sells it for over $16,000 for a sled.

I own a PRO 2 rig and I don't need a second sled, so it's your chance to get a budget friendly, Made in USA, large size rig if you own a small rig.

    Good Luck!

  7. I think you need a monitor with built-in Vector Scope and Waveform display. It used to be very expensive to get a monitor with these features built-in (such as one from Astro Design) but now it gets much cheaper and you can get a 7 or 8" HD-SDI/HDMI monitor with Vector Scope/Waveform for less than $2500 USD (BON and TV Logic's monitor I saw at NAB, Panasonic BT-LH80WU, or Glidecam HD-7 monitor).

It's good to have those features but I pesonally don't understand why they need to look at your monitor to check lighting.

If you are looking for a real daylight steadicam monitor, you should look at Chris Bangma's Cinetronic monitor($5,000).

    Or check this forum discussion.
