The info on the Monitor Arm is on the Web Site www.xcsinc.com As for the monitor I went with the 7" Color LCD from Tiffen NTSC/PAL 700 nit/framelines/16x9/4x3. I purchased it thru Peter Abraham. I wanted to thank the guys at Tiffen who rushed the monitor out to me on Thursday. Peter and I had it up and running for the first GMA Concert of the Summer on Friday. 7. Thanks for all the help. As it turns out Jim Bartell contacted me and his records show there is a software upgrade for my BFD. It is on its way back to Bartech Engineering. Jim sent me detailed instruction and I thought I might attempt it myself, but my unit was adjusted to work with Stanton motors so I wanted to be certain it was done right, so I sent it in. I think its still a good idea to have the hardline as back up. Thanks again Adam Keith Oh...and Peter Abraham did come up with a quick fix when I called him for some advice" ..........."Just Turn it OFF."
  8. Alec, No I didn't ask about the software. Jim, I own Bartech #036 is there a software upgrade and would it of help? I have also shot in times square outside 1500 Broadway (44th & Broadway) many times with out a problem. I was there on New Years Eve 2004 with out a problem. But last Tuesday was a little nerve racking. Audio was also having major problems. I also want to point out there is nothing wrong with the Bartech. It performed perfectly at a second location at Penn Station the same night. I was sweating it out before I saw that green light. The Penn Station set ups where all stairs and I wouldn't of like trying it with out a focus puller. Yesterday I set it up and took a walk and left the rig in my garage with my daughter on the cell phone and 4 blocks later I still had control of the focus motor. It was also great, after having a problem, to get Jim on the phone with a solution just a Overnight Fed Ex away. The Hardline worked great. Once the cable is attached to the Data Connectors the RF is automatically powered down and calibration is not affected I want to thank Jim "HardLine" Bartell for his help and quick response. 9. I shot on 43rd - 44th Street in NYC last Tuesday. My Bartech would not find continuity. I tried every channel. One channel held for a while but at times the focus motor would just take off and rack back and forth. (I later learned Audio was having problems also). It was a Video shoot and I ended up getting thru by using the one man pot and staying a little wider. A second location at Penn Station Everything was fine. After speaking with Jim Bartell he said Singapore and Times SQ NYC are the worst for interference and he suggested I purchase a direct connect cable. I asked Jim to make mine 30' long so I can also use it on my Jibs. For all you BFD owners who shoot in NYC, you might want to have the cable as part of your kits. Regards, Adam Keith
  10. Sean had his facts a little wrong. I didn't want to post until I spoke with the Director who set this up. I think he cleared things up. Sean is a student at a high school NJ. A director I work with ask me to help him -out in recording a event at the high school. We are using some of the schools equipment along with cameras and gear from Jupiter Video/Richie Westline. I am bringing a 18' Jib with operator, my Steadicam and focus puller. We offered to let the students at the school who are in the video club to tag along. help out with the gear with the opportunity to try on the rig and fly the Jib around before the event. Adam Keith
  11. Marc, Another thing to watch out for is.....If you do not get a monitor feed. check the small "Door" on the right side of the camera on some Ike's this door needs to be open to get video out of the monitor output BNC. Regards, Adam Keith
  12. Afton, THANKS...It's a great learning tool to watch some of the greatest Steadicam Shots Over and Over. I enjoyed watching everyones work but Dan Kneece was the instructor at my Workshop about 14 years ago. His foot was in a cast so we where not able to watch him operate. He had Peter Abraham and Travis Jackson running around with rigs. Its nice to be able to log on to your site to watch his work. Hey Dan how is the foot. Adam Keith

  19. Steadicam was added to Monday Night Football a couple of years back. I am NOT the operator, but I have enjoyed some of Steadicam Shots during the Games. I believe the operator pulls his own focus. This is a subject I have discussed with different ops from time to time. With a range of answers. Some ops would never work with out a focus puller and others not having a problem with pulling there own. FOCUS. Your in or out. I own and operate Jibs along with a EFP Steadicam. I also operate a Pedestal Camera. It takes a range of skills to operate each On a Jib a single operator is responsible for the arm from lenghts of 6'-30' along with Pan/tilt/zoom/focus. You on occasion fly over the heads of many people, and have to pay attention to many things while performing the shot. I bring this up because most Jib ops pull focus. On a Video Pedestal Camera a single operator is responsible for ped height, dolly moves, pans, tilts, zoom and pulls his or hers own focus. Now each of these camera support systems pedestal, jib, and steadicam have there own unique challenges, if it take one or ten to operate, the shot better be in focus I also operate Steadicam, I took a workshop, I live in the USA, I have shot sports, music, drama, comedy, news, ect..... I use a focus puller 90% . But on occasion on Video shoots, I pull my own focus. I choose when. For example: I shot a College Football Host Show. The talent never moved from behind a desk. I had a couple of set shots off some plasma monitors to a wide shot with the 3 people at a desk. A wide angle lens. The glass was always wide to show off the set. No Zooms. I pulled my own focus. Focus was never a problem. I followed well respected operator who pulled his own focus when he operated. I was followed by 2 other operators who pulled there own focus. No one had a Focus issue. Regards, Adam Keith www.qvideo.tv
  20. Peter's Back Injury was not Steadicam related. Peter was one of my teachers along with Dan Kneece, Chuck and Travis Jackson. I was lucky to live by Peter and we stayed in contact and ended up working together and many shows. After his injury he has pulled focus for me.... He has fixed my rig, made me rain covers, cleaned my arm, made me custom cables and tally systems, added back straps to my vest, turned me on to new gear.......given me endless instruction and advice. I guess what I am trying to get at is that even after his injury he has stayed involved. The added Back Straps on my Master Vest that Peter talk me into made a world of difference in my endurance and comfort. Thanks Peter Adam Keith Q Video Services, Inc.
