  1. The HL9S is the same battery as the Powercube. Tiffen had exclusive rights for awhile but the IDX version is the same in performance and weight. If you want the same feel you had with the powercubes as far as weight but want to spend less, buy the IDX HL9s. If you want stackable batts, buy the HL9 which are a bit more expensive and weight a bit more than the HL9s. I have been replacing my Powecubes as they become weak with the HL9s batts and the feel of the rig is the same. $349 at B and H. Grayson Grant Austin, SOC
  2. Bartech and Heden Digital motor sold. I still have the Preston DM1 with wide .8 gear with Jerry Hill PAM bracket complete. Looks and works beautifully. email me about it. Grayson Grant Austin, SOC graysonaustin@me.com
  3. Almost forgot, For the same selling price, I can supply with an even newer Heden Digital M26VE motor with a full set of gears, bracket, etc. Photos of motor can be emailed if anyone wants the package with this motor instead. Thanks. Grayson Grant Austin, SOC graysonaustin@me.com

  5. Hi all, For those of you who had an original PRO gimbal and upgraded to the VZ sleeve, I want your original clamping sleeve and cap. If you don't know what I'm talking about then you probably don't have what I need so no response needed. For those that do know what I am talking about, please email me at the email address below. Thanks. Grayson Grant Austin, SOC graysonaustin@me.com
  6. Any photos of the 2 battery lightweight base out there? Grayson Grant Austin, SOC
  7. Well??? What was there to see? Anything really good? For those of us who were not able to be there, please tell all... Grayson Grant Austin, SOC
  8. Hey everyone. Need a bit of help. I am doing a Sony Pictures feature and have done others for them in the past. They are telling our UPM that they don't want to do a three day week on equipment rental now even though every other time they have. They want to pro rate my weekly rate because apparently all the other crew with gear (sound mixer, Key Grip, etc) have done this pro rate deal. I don't do that. I could use some help from others who have done a Sony job this year who have done a standard three day deal or similar with them so I have examples. I don't need advice or want a discussion here. I just need real jobs and people who are willing to say so so I can put it back in their face to help stop this practice. I can't do anything about the other knuckle headed crew members who gave in but I won't. Email me with your details. Thanks. Grayson Grant Austin, SOC graysonaustin@me.com
  9. Unused Blackmagic Hyperdeck Shuttle. Comes with unused Crucial C300 256 gig SSD and the cable you need to connect it to regular BNC. Super fast SSD. I have two of them for production and on board recording and this one is a back up that isn't needed so i am cleaning out space. Thanks. Selling all for $600. Email only below. Thanks. Grayson Grant Austin, SOC graysonaustin@me.com
  10. Basic saddle for Handsfree Segway. This saddle goes on the lean steer version of Segway (X2, etc). I have not used this one since I have the SteadiSeg complete version now. A less expensive way to start a Handsfree segway system. Selling for $1200. Email only to email address below. Thanks. Grayson Grant Austin, SOC graysonaustin@me.com
  11. Unused as New XCS Ultimate Sleeve for Tiffen centerposts (Ultra2, Ultra, Master, etc). If you ever dreamed of putting an XCS gimbal on your Master Series or other 1.58 size center post, you need this sleeve. Then just buy the main gimbal bearing assembly from XCS and you are good. I was going to use it as a back up on my Ultra2 but did not need to and now the main gimbal bearing is on a 2 inch center post for another rig of mine so I no longer need this. If you buy it from XCS, it will cost you $1200 (maybe more now). Buy it from me same as new for $1000. Email me only at the email below. Thanks. Grayson Grant Austin, SOC graysonaustin@me.com
  12. Like it says, Rarely seen. Unused, as new PRO vest. I use my Walter Klassen exclusively (serial number 011. I was one of the original crash test dummies). Bought the PRO vest as a backup and I am just not using it. Anyone who has ever bought gear from me knows how pristine I keep things and this vest hasn't ever been touched by human sweat (or any other bodily fluids...) Buy from PRO $5200. Buy from me $4800. email only please and serious only: graysonaustin@me.com Grayson Grant Austin, SOC
  13. Unless you are using Panavised Epics. They have their own little box that has BNCs for sync and timecode but the run/stop is a PanaLemo six pin hermaprodite connector. And it is not the same connector I have on any of my Panavision run cables for any of their other cameras. Found out after buying Epic run cables for my CVolution system and now can't use them on this job. Panavision is making up some Cmotion cables for me for this connector and some for the A camera Preston. They also cobbled together this God awful FrankenPana cage thing from old Panavision parts laying around the shop for it that brings the weight with Anamorphic lenses back up to way over a full Red One package and is very un user friendly. No good way to mount top rods and I can't remove the baseplate from the cage so I have to use an Arri dovetail with the full bottom rod carriage, etc. Suck... Grayson Grant Austin, SOC
  14. The whole thing telescopes in to almost flush with the cart. Just loosen the set screws on the speedrail crossovers that attach to the cart verticals and push the whole cage in. The bar running across at the bottom is always lower than the rig but just high enough for for shin bashing of anyone who ventures too close to the rig. I can also slide just that part back a bit for myself if I want to so I don't bash my own shins. The velvet rope is there to discourage grips and teamsters by making them feel too underdressed to enter "Club Steadicam". Works every time. Unfortunately, the actors keep getting in and running up a huge tab that they never pay... Grayson Grant Austin, SOC
  15. I liked Erwin's design but don't care so much for the current Backstage design. Still not enough rig protection and after an unexplained hit to my rig that no one seemed to know anything about a couple of years ago, I went about doing it myself. Built my own cage from Speedrail and added a few "extras" of my own. See photos. This is the standard TR-04 cart which serves my purposes well. I have the whole setup of American double riser stand and Backstage wheel conversion, etc for on set and all the bits are with me that I will ever need on set but having a cart that is a sort of "Base Station" is important to me. Maybe not so much for others. I don't always need or want my whole cart "On Set" since there are so many jokers hanging around who just love to treat your cart like a Starbucks lounge. I have had to chase away extras, grips, teamsters and producers from my cart who really needed to use my cart to check their laptop, sip their coffee, take an important call, put on their makeup (not kidding), chat about the Hot extra putting on her makeup, etc, etc...
  16. Hi, I bought the batteries with my rig in 2008 - They have not had heavy usage as I worked in other roles as well as operating. In that time the kit was only dry hired once, and that was last year for a couple of days. Thea reason for the price? To be honest, I know what they cost me and the price I'm asking in considerably less, but I didn't check current prices so I'm open to offers. Thanks, Chip Powercubes are the same as the HL9S direct from IDX (The "HL" stands for High Load). You can get them for less than $400 new from any IDX dealer (better if you are a good client). Tiffen had an exclusive deal initially but now you can get them direct from IDX, just not Tiffen Powercube branded but same specs and if you want to spend a little more you can get them with the IDX multi battery locking system to piggyback another battery onto them. Look at IDX site for specs. I have had Powercubes for several years now and I will be swithcing out to the IDX version as my batteries get too low for use. This is the price point you should be looking at. A little time to do your research goes a long way. Unless you like to spend more money on the same product... Grayson Grant Austin, SOC
  17. Not True. They will pay "full replacement value" if you push them. Never take actual cash value. "Actual Cash Value" means whatever the piece of gear is worth right now on the open market due to depreciation. If you accept that, it just makes it harder for the rest of us to get our deal memos done properly and you will not be able to get your gear properly replaced if something should happen to it. I had the Warner legal department change that phrase back to "Full Replacement Value". Grayson Grant Austin, SOC
  18. Hello All, Fantastic condition Preston system for sale. It works perfectly as a Preston always does and comes with a New/Unused Heden Digital motor. The Heden motors are strong, quiet and they are smaller and lighter than Preston motors. I use them exclusively with my CMotion Lens Control system and love them. The version 1 microwave Prestons are quite often better than version 2 when it comes to transmission and interference, range etc. I have experienced this many times where an MDR2 system had hits and range failures before my MDR1 system did. Version 1 Microwave system includes: *Preston Handset. *Microwave Transmitter Module Version 1. *MDR 1 with Microwave Receiver unit. *(3) Preston Batteries. *Preston Battery Charger. *(12) Focus Rings. *(2) spare antennaes. One for Handset. One for Receiver. *New/Unused Heden Digital Motor M26VE with sliding rod clamp assembly. *Complete set of gears for Heden motor. *Step down bushings for motor rod clamp (15mm, 5/8 panavision rods). I have some awesome extras that come with including: *New/Unused Element Technica V-Mount Bracket for Preston MDR. *New/Unused 15mm Bar Bracket for MDR. *New/Unused Microforce Zoom bracket for handset (No microforce included. Just the bracket). *New/Unused Jerry Hill PAM Bracket Complete for Heden Motor (Great Bracket). Cables that are included: *MDR Power for Arri cameras. *MDR Power for Panavision cameras. *MDR Power for Genesis. *MDR Power for Anton Bauer P-Tap. *Your Choice of MDR power to Steadicam Rig: PRO, Tiffen Ultra/Ultra2 etc, MK-V. *Camera Run Cable for Arri cameras. *Camera Run cable for Panavision cameras. *Motor Cable for Heden Digital Motor. *Cable for Microforce Digital zoom to Handset. Pelican Case for all is included. $9500 worth of perfect condition (some of it new/unused) gear. Selling for $8500. This is not even a complete list. There are more cables and brackets and bits but I can't recall exactly which ones and how many. Some cables have more than one of them also. I will have the complete list and photos when I get to set on monday for those who are serious and email me. Don't message me through the forum as I don't always check it often. I bought this system to use as a backup to my Cmotion but I love the Cmotion so much that I don't need this one now so all the new bits and pieces I purchased for it go with as well. As anyone who has purchased gear from me can tell you, I don't sell junk and I take extremely great care of all my gear. This package is worth every penny. Email me if interested to the email below. Thanks. Grayson Grant Austin, SOC A and B Camera Operator and Steadicam Owner/Operator graysonaustin@me.com
  19. Vest is sold. Thanks for all the interest. Grayson Grant Austin, SOC
  20. Hi All, I have an Ultra2 Vest for sale. It came with the Ultra2 package I purchased but I already use a Walter Klassen Back Mount Harness so this one sits unused. It is a demo unit from Tiffen and is in great shape. Comes with soft bag and extra ratchet straps. Still under warranty from Tiffen. Selling for $3800 US. I am in California working for a few more days so if anyone wants to do a quick sale, now is the time as I will be leaving on Thursday. I will take some photos of it on monday once I get back on set as it is in the truck right now. Serious only please. Email me at: graysona@earthlink.net Thanks, Grayson Grant Austin, SOC
  21. Hello All, I have three extra Nickel Metal batteries and a quick charger for Preston lens control (Hand Unit 2). All are in great shape. I just have way too many now. New from Preston it would all cost $1330. Selling all three batteries and charger together for $500. email me at graysona@earthlink.net Thanks Grayson Grant Austin
  22. Pottery Barn, Crate and Barrel, etc. Go with a mix of hard and soft cheeses with some hearty toasted bread or crackers and you're sure to be a hit at any party... Sorry but I couldn't resist. Grayson Austin (no help whatsoever)
  23. What exactly do you think the distance between the Gimbal and the film plane has to do with holding a good horizon? Mike O'Shea is an excellent operator who could hold a nice horizon with a whiffle ball bat and a case of girl scout cookies as the counterweight but having more distance between the gimbal and film plane will not really affect the ability to hold good horizon other than actually helping a bit by spreading out the mass of the rig much like spreading out the lower mass of the monitor and batteries. The rig reacts slower like turning a battle ship compared to a jet ski. The part that does apply is that once you get off level, it takes longer to get the rig back on level. Tilting will also be a bit farther from nodal tilting as well but that is not a horizon issue. Jerry Holway has had a bit to say about this somewhere on the forum as well I believe. Grayson Austin
  24. Also, if anyone knows of someone selling or who might consider it, please email me at: graysona@earthlink.net Thanks, Grayson
