Ok, whether it's me or I just suck but I'm having the damnest time trying to balance the XL 1 on my SK2 (sound of radio communications)ROGER THAT. Either the brick that I'm using is too light or too heavy. When it come to the larger rigs, NO WORRIES, but the smaller one particulary the X-1, I have to post all the way up and arm hits the monitor. I know it can be done cause I've seen it!!! On a personal note, even though some of us on this forum will meet sometime or not, I feel that we are in a fraternal bond whether we know each other or not, and are all connected in one way,shape or form and it's sad to know one of our bretheren has passed. For what it's worth I like it especially when you can change the frame rate on an eight is really cool cause of the ghosting FX but that is until the XL2 comes out but thats a whole other topic

I recently completed another crazy weekend for the 2nd year running on the infamous 48HR Film project as DP and Steadi Op on top of that as a Camera Op and Grip and my good friend Howard as 1st AC,Gaffer,Best Boy,Grip and 1st AD. It was a hellish weekend and the only reason being everyone was more concerned in my opinion to the cast than the technical crew (no big suprise there) not counting audio out but when it came to rigging the set besides one PA NO ONE EVEN BOTHERED TO ASK IF THEY COULD HELP :angry: Anyway the shots and the lighting scheme we made out of 4 Omni's, 2 Peppers, 2 DP's a Rifela and 2 1k's was straight TITS!!! Once I get the picts from the shoot I'll post them. We shot on a XL1-1s w/a frame rate of 60. It was fun and I'm still trying to recover from lack of sleep but the main thing that urked me, and I'm sure everyone has experienced this, once I said what the shot would be,out of no where the director bring up a shot that he hasn't even asked me if it was possible and says he wants it in the shot. Quick recap, 48HRS to make a 4 to 10 min short,editing time,set up time and lighting. BIG RED FLAG, SURVEY SAYS!!!!!!!!!! ERRRRRRR. No WAy No How. Basically a figure was coming out of the fog, you could see her but cant make her out. Then as a pick up I follow her in low mode just see her from the waist down to a building to a doorway then she goes in the door. Simple Right!! WROOOOOOOONG!!!!!!! YOU BUNCH OF SISSY MARY"S!!!!!! THIS "DIRECTOR" desides to get a cart and put her on it and have her float to the door. Now that all well and fine but a couple problems, she's established walking the you want to elevate her so she looks 10 ft tall!?!?! can yo say CONTINUITY!!!! I CAN. So he gets pissy and throws a fit but the shot went the way I said it would and the beauty of this was the EXE. Producer/Actor when she hired me said if a shot can't be done I have COMPLETE VETO over everything. If it can't be done it can't. So I pulled ranks. Its amazing, you would think that of all peple the dir would have some idea on how the shot should look but he was visually numb and on top of that he said contantly "want ever you think looks good just do it" Do I sound JADED or Bitter at all <_< . Besides that I had a ball!!!! :lol: Its amazing what you can do in 48HRS. So if someone asks me what you do this weekend, I'll have to say have a seat and order a couple rounds it'll be a while. I Just flew a Varicam a couple weeks ago and I'm tellin ya YOU REALLY NEED THAT. I know w/o it you can't get a feed off it. I used an AJA is that a good DC on reasonable on $ the only thin is you need a anothe pwr source for it. what I did was take the D plug and put in to my Anton gold mount and fastened the cables so it was out of my way when I flew it. Just an idea.

With all due respect Howard, please give it a rest. Since you've pretty much become involved with the Steadicam forum (the past few months) two out of three of your posts are plugs for yourself and products. Just wanting to give you a heads up but through discussions with other ops your getting a used car salesman reputation here with the constant onslaught of these kind of plugs. Let others (customers not employees or those getting kick backs for sales) do the back patting and product plugging for you. He was asking about Tiffen. How would you like it if everytime someone was inquiring about one of your products Tiffen or PRO or another manufacturer came on and tried to lead them away? Not a good professional business acumen is it? Like the used car salesman who tries to lure you onto his lot instead of the lot you were looking at. Just a thought and friendly piece of advice. Has anyone fiananced a rig from Tiffen before if so, how much red tape did you have to go through. The reason why is I want to upgrade to a Pro-Vid and I've seen many for sale on the forum but to pay out that much in one HUGE lump is something I can't do. Any suggestions. I agree but the only thing about that is when it come to certain markets or there are maybe a handful of Ops in the area (Not speaking from experience or anything :lol: ) How would that come to be. I would love to have a Rep from the Guild to come down or to see how many Ops are in THIS area but the only thing about it is as far as I know I'M IT unless there are some in hiding, or sanction a particular region from the mid west to A to H, that would be concidered one and so on dot,dot,dot if that is or was possible.

It's nice to know this, even though I'm in a wacked out market of 35-40,but I believe in higher markets there's more. I knew I wasn't alone (no way possible) it's just one of those things can't explain it. Curiousity

Not to bring race into it but... I've seen many operators of different races but I never seen a Black operator. I know they exist (me being one) but as Mel Brooks can say with a twist of words.."WHERE DA BLACK OPERATORS AT!!!!" :D

I never knew on how big of an impact that I would make on that production and most of all to my fellow ops around the world. I feels good. I guess it''s just my modesty coming out.
