  1. I meant the dionic, sorry. Just saw them a B & H two months ago. Very light but almost $1,000 a piece, and you can't fly with 'em like you said.
  2. Damn! I just bought 4 in December! Are you going with the newer Hytron 160's? CP
  3. Cool Terry, and thanks again for all of the cables you made me this fall- everything's perfect! CP
  4. I had laproscopic surgery for a double hernia 2 years ago, and had a traditional, (i.e invasive) hernia operated on when I was 16- almost 30 years ago. If you are given a choice- go for the laproscopic. They go in through the belly button! I was out of the hospital in a few hours and puttering around the house that same day. They insert mesh screen over the tear, and it binds with your muscle tissue... I was working in about 4-5 weeks. Invasive surgery was much worse, and due to the nature of them pulling existing muscle over the tear meant that it was almost impossible to stand up straight- a much longer rehab time. In terms of a freebie? Not a chance. I *might* roll the dice on one of my regular gigs- but then again probably not. That little lump in your abdomen is probably a piece of your intestine poking through... Keep in mind that on a freebie that you are more than likely going to have to work much harder and hold the rig longer for inexperienced folks who may or may not know how to utilize the steadi, or fall into the habit of using the Steadi as a logistical shortcut- as opposed to designing a nice steadicam shot. Thus you end up as the dolly or tripod. Not worth it. CP
  5. Any folks out there want to share their ideas for holiday gifts for the AC's? I've been day playing on a couple of shows, and want to show my appreciation for the folks who keep brining me back in... Thanks in advance, CP
  6. Great advice, thanks Charles. Many of these are in rotation in my kit already- but I think I'll call Terry again, (3rd time this month), and add a few things. Thanks for sharing. CP
  7. Congrats Jim! My two units are 7+ years old and still going strong! CP
  8. Abel Cine Tech was nice enough to offer to bring one out from England for me- so in a week or so I'll get to play. Charles: It's really just for my use when shooting- so I won't be renting it out to other DP's- but yes, it's certainly not the industry standard. Thanks, CP
  9. Hey Folks, Wondering if anyone has any feedback after using the Ronford/Baker Atlas 30 Head. I have always used the O'Connor 2575 ultimate heads, but am now building a RED package and was hoping to learn more about this head. I can't find anyone in the NY area that is renting it or I would go and sus it out myself. Shooting conditions would be with a Red camera, and the 24-290 optimo... Thanks, Chris
  10. Hi Jens, I have heard about a XCS sled for sale. Contact me off forum: mistermook@verizon.net

  13. Wow, that's a neat trick Andrew! Thanks very much for the offer- I'm sending mine out to Greg today, and should have it by the end of the week. I really appreciate everyone's ability to help out. CP
  14. Thanks for the help, guys. I spoke to Greg and he will fix. I had to tether a few shots yesterday- but it was no big deal in the end. Thanks again. CP
  15. Wow, thanks Brooks. That's a very generous offer. Unfortunately I am in NY. Hope I can return the favor sometime- that's really above and beyond! Chris
  16. Gotta gig tomorrow, and just before packing up I noticed that the 4 pin video/power port is not working. I need this to plug in my Canatrans, as the Decimator is going to the top stage port. Of course, I called Greg Bubb first, and he's always lightning fast to respond- but I gotta be up in a few hours and thought I send a shout out to se if anyone knows how to reset this port, if in fact that's possible... Thanks in advance, CP
  17. I just read that one of our own will be an Honoree at the 2009 WIFC Awards (Women In Film Chicago). Congrats to you Janice! You were so helpful as an instructor at Garett's workshop in PA about 7 years ago! It's great to see you get some recognition! Best, Chris
  18. I have to agree with Jeff here, the Nebby & the Transvideo were quite exceptional in terms of brightness, good viewing angles and (lack of) ambient light reflection. One note about the Transvideo... which is fully loaded with all of the tools/toys & scopes a DP would love: The best viewing is either straight on, (or course), or from slightly above and from a dramatically lower angle looking up, (side to side viewing is also very good). This seemed somewhat counterintuitive for a monitor designed with Steadicam Ops in mind, as most common usage would be with the monitor below eye level with the op looking down, and the monitor either flat to the horizon or tilted upwards. Since there is a larger angle of view from below looking upwards perhaps this was a concession to folks using it as an onboard, (with camera in studio mode), where the monitor is placed at or above eye level a good deal of the time for the focus puller. As Marianne from Transvideo explained to me, this is something that they will invert for you, (I believe at no cost- but don't quote me), so that it would provide this greater viewing ability with the monitor below eye level and the op looking down upon it. Otherwise you are going to be mounting it upside down and all of your buttons and switches are also upside down. On another note, I also wish to thank Jamie, Alec, Lewis and of course Charlie & CSC for putting this together- it was great meeting so many ops in one place. CP
  19. I used the D-20 on a movie in New Orleans, and the weight isn't terrible. Be prepared to have plenty of batteries, however, as the mirror needs to spin for the video signal to be transmitted and viewed in video village. It is a pain to reboot between takes as well, so you end up leaving the camera on a good deal of the time. You really go through the batteries quickly. CP
  20. Hey Folks, Complete set of antlers, including three different riser posts, clamp, telescoping arm, and three sets of weights. Very good condition, save for a few cosmetic scratches here and there. $750.00 email me off forum, please if interested mistermook@verizon.net
