I emailed him yesterday, but for those of U watching at home: The 12-pin suggests a SONY type vid tap (XC-xx), but the "2-pin LEMO"on an EFP is unfamiliar. Is this a custom modification? I also wonder why he doesn't use the HIROSE 4-pin to provide both 12vdc and video signal. We'll see...

UPDATE: Further research reveals that the compliance issue is this. The KINGS connector is the standard to which LEMO and FISCHER versions comply, so they are interchangeable. BUT ONLY THE US VERSIONS. European Fischer Triax will not mate with KINGS, or other brand connectors. How F*'d is dat? :angry: Anyway, that explains the need for a specific connector for some people. If the camera is european spec for connectors, you'll need matching brand cable plugs. I am going to order some mini-triax to keep on hand for anyone that needs it for making non-US spec triax cables. $1.25 per foot

Okay, just got back from the 2:20 matinee. Screamingly funny! I embarassed myself a couple of times... didn't actually spit-take my pepsi, but laughed pretty loud at some jokes that hit uncomfortably close to home. Farce is difficult, because there's the danger of just playing it for the yucks, Three's Company style. Maintaining versimillitude as events in the story get nutso (cruising for rock with Barbie-priceless) is a skillful achievement. Two thumbs up, 4 stars, whatever....... I really enjoyed it.

Point of clarification: I can get this cable assembly with any connector specified: KINGS, LEMO, or FISCHER at the same price. Just specify which connector preferred. But connector manufacture isn't a factor. They all are inter-matible, as they comply with the specs established by KINGS, the recognised industry standard. I'm told that there used to be an issue with LEMO receptacles...something about a keying difference, so there might be a problem with older equipment that have the old LEMO receptacles. But my sources say it is not an issue with contemporary gear.

I now have a product that may interest you. Miniature triax cable with KINGS connectors both ends, (male-female). This is a NEMAL assembly. This product allows the operator to mate with the big, standard triax cable coming from the truck, relieving the wight/tension strain of that cable without having to stepdown to coax. The currrent configuration is designed so that the cable from the truck would be mounted to the operator's vest in back, using a carabiner (sic) or someting, and the mini-triax then extends to the camera. All the stress is taken up at the vest, allowing relatively free movement. The big triax is wrangled by a grip or assistant. I currently have these at 6 ft, (back of vest to camera), but can get them longer if requested. $245 = $1 per additional ft I am curious why the Triax connectors need to be LEMO product. The LEMO's are specifically designed to be inter-mateable with the KINGS standard for triax, so the brand of manufacture should be immaterial. Jeff has discussed with me the flexibility of this cable, and he's not entirely satisfied with it, (I believe he keeps one as a backup for the tri-coax cable). Others I've shown this to are satisfied with the flexibility, so I guess it's a matter of taste. I'll have one at CINEGEAR to look at and comment on.

As some of you know, I am an unappologetic (sic) fan of everything involving Joss Whedon. FIREFLY was the best TV I've watched in years. Well, the DVD anyway. The feature film continuation of the story starts shooting soon (June 4th or something), and I know someone out there knows something..... :rolleyes: I'm not asking for a drive-on pass or anything; just encouraging news. C'mon... pretty please. Any and all info much appreciated.

The receptacle on the camera is female, so you'll need a male plug, HIROSE part #HR10A-7P-4P Pin 1 = Ground Pin 4 = 12V Evalucon connectors make fine substitutes for the HIROSE at a nice cost savings.

I spoke with the inventor, and here's the bottom line: The transmitter was designed to operate while powered. This includes changing the channel select knob settings. In fact, users are advised to change channels on the transmitter before changing channel settings on receivers, (DX series anyway), to allow the tuners to better lock onto the signal. The red warning card mentioned in previous posts is not a CIT included item. Whoever included such a card with its warning did so without any prompting from CIT. While rigamorole's unit may perform better than other rental units, there is no causal relationship to channel selection while powered. Clumsy, bear-paw handling by third parties and incorrect power supply connections is, in my opinion, more common factors.

Fred, are you confirming this? How come this is the first time I have heard this nugget of wisdom (then again, I'm ignorant about many things--where are my housekeys again)? While I support keeping one's equipment isolated from the hands of the clumsy, I'm convinced that using the channel select switches while powered up is not injurious to the transmitter. Typically, what caused weakening of signal was degradation of a component due to age, but that's true for all of us. ;) I never ran into such problems when testing transmitters at the shop, but that's not field conditions. Thanks for the mention, Alec. For the sake of clarity: The power connector for the 435 (and other 24V cameras) is a FISCHER connector. The power cables I routinely make use a FISCHER modification that is not a shrink-wrapped end, but a manufactured shell made of a light weight teflon material. I do make a cable using adhesive shrink wrap to replace the metal shell of the power input connector on PANAVISION cameras. After heating, this "shell" is bent into the proper orientaion, and it hardens as it cools.
