  1. Better living through Sardonica!

    Many of you may remember the EXCELLENT customer service provided by Fred Davis with his company "Production Cable Services"

    Having acquired MS, and then partner/wife Orchid essentially abandoning him, Fred once again rises from the ashes, phoenix-like to start:

    Chrysalis Productions.

    Champion Brother-in-law William Iversen has stepped up to the plate to take on the soldering/production duties, keeping me on as consigliere.

    My database, my excellent reputation among customers and suppliers alike all transfer to Chrysalis.

  2. Hey now,

    Some readers may remember Production Cable Services, makers of fine interface cabling. Founder/owner Fred Davis contracted MS, at first manageable, then proceeding to true disability. His partner, in life as well as business, determined that she hadn't the tolerance nor capacity ( & surely not the incentive) for life with a partial quadriplegic, and so she secured his long-term care by institutionalizing him. He now resides in what is essentially a long term health care facility, basically in isolation.

    Fred's grit and sardonic nature has served him well in establishing a congenial rapprochement with staff, Facebook contacts, and the increasing number of fans for his blog "Another Day In Paradise™"

    Several old customers have made the effort to contact Fred, for which he is supremely appreciative.

    So, NRN but I'd love to hear from old Friends. 562-277-5294 for VOX, or find me on Facebook.

    Thanks for everything,

    Fred Davis

  3. Just a quick note to welcome back Bill Brummond.

    I got an email from him this morning letting me know he is now back working on "Las Vegas" the show he took his fall on.

    It was nearly two years ago, and hundreds of hours of rehab and truck loads of dedication later he is flying the rig full time again.

    Congrats and bravo to you Bill.

    Glad to hear he's rehabbed (sic) to the point he's working. BRAVO!

  4. Frederic--

    This sounds like a great addition to the Steadicam kit!

    How about physical dimensions? Standard or Metric, no problem.

    Also, for those not so computer savvy, what are the hard drive options and requirements?

    Any idea on power draw?

    Just spoke with Mark Playdon @ FFV. He was very helpful! (949) 852-8404. Me, I'm pleased to learn the interface. (type M coax = power (big range), RCA = Video)

    looks like a VERY accessable bit o' gear. 8-)

  5. I have all the right tools (I think) short of a heat gun including the nice Weller soldering iron, alligator clamp station, etc. My problem is as much as I try to keep the shrink tubing away from where I'm soldering, invariably it ends up shrinking before I can finish soldering. I have a clunky heat sink, at least that's what I think it's called, to keep this from happening, but for the really small wires/connections, it gets in the way more than it helps and often squashes the plastic around the leads therefore exposing them (which in theory would then be covered by the tubing but shouldn't get squashed in the first place).

    I wonder if the Learning Annex offers classes on soldering...

    So what am I, chopped liver?!

    I have all tool needed, as well as mucho experience. And contracting me to do this sort of thing qualifies as a mitzvah. So call me

  6. I wonder if passing the receiver's signal through a video D.A. would boost it to where the DV deck would recognize it?

    This seems to be the prollem with the ARCHOS recorders, as well. Modification of the docking station base cable appears to be structurally sound, but many customers report no video signal getting to the deck, Customer research indicates the problem as being video signal level (in dB?) The recorder appears to want a specific signal (dB?), and won't recognize anything else. No response to several emails to ARCHOS engineering.

    *sigh*

    8-(

  7. Dear Brandon,

    <snip>

    You can buy both BFD and M1 from Bartech Engineering. Jim can package cables as well, or you can go to the best cable man in the business:

    Fred Davis

    Production Cable Service

    626-794-1534

    <snip>

    Don't short yourself on cables, buy 2 of everything. The worst feeling in the world would be to break a cable on set, and not be able to shoot because you didn't have a backup.

    <snip>

    Good luck,

    Oh, hell, Mark U make me blush 8-)

    Thanx 4 the positive words; I owe U a capuccino 8-)

  8. Now i need the 3-pin config from Arri

    Assuming you are talking about the small "RS" port on the 24 volt ARRIs.

    1 = Ground

    2 = +24 vdc (be careful, on Arricams this is NOT regulated below 32 volts, so it depends on what the battery is feeding the camera)

    3 = Remote Start/Stop [momentary] (also output for shutter pulse when camera runs)

    Hope this helps,

    Matt

    I confirm Matt's post/ those are the correct contact assignments on the FISCHER P/N S102A 052 -130+ (3-pin).

    As U can imagine, I have alot os information about pin assignments, and I urge U to contact me with any questions.

  9. I have a modulus 2000 with out heat fins , I am looking for the same type of heat fins that are on the 3000. Where can i find it? I tried the company that sells the modulus, buy didnt get a reply

    thanks

    Dude, 's common frustration getting CIT on the phone these days.

    If I remember correctly, (a long shot), the piece was machined by AFM Machining 340 Hearst Dr. Oxnard CA 93030 805-278-2708 Please telephone for more details (P/N#, etc. ). Taalk to Gordon Heck. But call me first, 'K?

  10. HOW MUCH DID FRED CHARGE YOU FOR THAT MOD.?

    THE TEK GUY AT THE CAMERA RENTAL HOUSE OFFER THAT MOD TO ME, BUT HE MENTIONED HE WOULD USE THE SAME VOLTAGE TRANSFORMERS THAT ARE USED IN THE CELL PHONE CAR CHARGERS, SINCE CELPHONES WORK WITH 5 VOLTS TOO.

    189$ and he used all my connectors (Lemo and Archos), so add up another 70/100$ for the Lemo plug and you are around the same price as a gently used Archos unit on Ebay. How many times the cables for a device costs us more than the device itself? History just tends to repeat itself...

    Actually, the price quoted by Frederic reflects discount particular to that one construction. SRP for that mod is approx $110, you provide the base hub cable

  11. The clip is an exert(sic) from a DVD (that I've never seen) of Kevin Smith speaking around the country at various colleges telling a bunch of stories.

    You lucky bastid... that's a hysterically funny DVD. You must have had a ball. 8-)

    A sequel is rumored, but so far, only vapor-ware. Good on ya for snagging an excellent gig.
