  2. If you really wanted to remind them, just send the full rate invoice and once they freakout about it, then send over a credit memo for the discounts  official disclaimer: ***not responsible for any delays in your payments***
  3. Hey Bud, What they are doing is taking our $1000/day 3Day week and pro-rating it... you should bring it to their attention that the standard rate IS infact $1000/day for a 3 day week. This is a real sticker and they should be reminded that WE steadicam operators are infact already discounting our rates for weekly hire. All they do is take budgets from one show and roll it over to the next (templates). So they will look and see that the steadicam rental was only $600/day. So that go with that as the daily instead of the prorated weekly discounts added. That is why I will ALWAYS send in an invoice with the FULL non discounted rate and then add lines taking away the discounted rates. It causes small ripple affects between accounting and upm's and they sometimes want me to adjust my numbers to fit theirs and I say "Sorry, but my accountant told me to do this way, so that I can track the discounts and concessions I have given you." It helps me recover my losses at tax time.
  4. Another plus is no adjustments needed after lunch! ;) I look forward to trying the production models soon Chris!
  5. Even though this is from a while ago Charles, can you provide some description? Hip Flexor Stretch... this is the main one that would trouble most if your feeling something deep into your socket. This vid wasn't the best quality but he tells you how to do it properly... although I dont do mine as deep as his -Alfeo
  6. Hey Justin, If your set on PRO, then I would try to demo the one Eric is suggesting... if not, like James suggested, The "Shadow" formerly know as Phantom-V was the mind child of Rob Viona... hence the "V" Too bad Rob didn't get his name branded on the sled like the "Fawcett Exovest" ;)
  7. Hmm, then I wonder what I've been hanging on the bottom of mine this whole time? Holly sh!t dude... you can give that setup a fisting between the camera bottom and top stage. Ron... give him some Lisigav
  8. Hey Charles, whats the word on Free Style Love Supreme? That 38x12x4x4... crazy!
  9. The Tango has to work a bit more out in front of you than normal rigs, so do be careful and get the best damn pilot you can... not the craziest guy, but the most careful one... stay clear from the ones named "Goose, Iceman or Maverick!" Which event... those guys/gals are usually hauling butt. Yes, a clear bath does help. Thanks for caring about your personal hygiene ;) Good luck with your test, sounds like Tiffen will help make it happen! Report back and link us to your test footage. -Alfeo
  10. I dont think the Tango would be the right tool. The shaft can transfer lots of vibration and if physics have its say in it, the smaller sled (camera) will display the most of the vibration because it is lighter and further distance from the gimbal... It does however perform quite nicely in a hard mount situation. I just think that beyond 10mph you will start to feel it. Also the panning mechanism is driven by a very low tension nylon cable which can be adjusted, but I feel that at those speeds you will have slippage in the panning which can happen with a few whip pans. It was a novel idea and if you have the time to test it out in that situation... go for it. But I would try something a bit more beefy for the combination of your conditions. Good luck and report back
  11. Peter, I have had two emergency situations which where helped by the local AC's. One was in The Big Easy when the Ultra1 monitor bracket slipped straight out and slammed to the ground while balancing. Ralph Madison came thru and helped me go through all the brackets with his extra monitor, didn't work out but he tried... The time was in Orlando at Disney, my gear was picked up from the camera house and somehow was separated, my vest and arm did not make the ride in. Again, the local AC's jumped on the phone to find John Atkinson whom sent out a Masters Arm & Vest until mine arrived later that day via Delta Dash. Thanks Ralph & John! There has also been the other side of things when I called a local op that had the exact same Ultra 2 rig and preston HU3. He wasn't willing to loan nor rent out any of his gear... I was floored by this and would never consider that type of approach with another working professional. I have been asked about my rig by someone that had not taken the workshop yet and I politely declined with the provision that I must be there and once they completed the workshop I would consider the possibility. Granted I knew this person prior to the workshop and they actually put my rig on twice for two different jobs that I was there for as a DP. That said, I hope that I have done the same to help out other ops in a pinch, we are a community and even in the undercutting bastardization of this industry, we are a community and if we do not stick together to keep the rates moving upward instead of downward, we will never keep up with the rising cost of technology and cost of living to maintain a career capable of retiring on. I'm in, excellent idea! -Alfeo
  12. What is this Faced Book you speak of?
  13. Hey guys, am I missing something here?!?! If you have the HD Component connector with the 7pin Lemo, couldn't you just use a HDSDI to LEMO pigtail? I guess you just wanted to get away from that expensive pigtail and not have to worry about MUCH cheaper HDSDI BNC cables... BTW... Brian, you must have had the prototype rig I use to use which had no HD connectors at all. I was told that it would be too much of a hassle. Glad you boys figured out a great mod to keep those rigs alive!
  14. This type of competitive competition think tank began in an advertising school I attended called Portfolio Center right here in Atlanta. The only difference is that these where students working under the guidance of their professor. A "client" would either approach the school or the school would approach an agency for a pitch. The students would work all quarter long on this project and the "client" would jury the results for what they felt best fit their needs. The prize winner would essentially get their tuition for the quarter paid. Not a bad deal all the way around. It gave the students portfolio pieces for a real world client that people may recognize and the experience of dealing with a pseudo client. In all actuality, it has made its way into the main stream if we are seeing it every year at Super Bowl time... -Alfeo
  15. There is plenty of sand just a few blocks away at NAB... Not to mention loads of debauchery & gambling... unless you run into Baldwin and head to Jumbos! Some vendors will only be at Cine Gear that are only film related, i.e. Pro, Preston...
  16. running a black level is hell... took forever
  17. How ironic that I just got a call from this DP that just flew in from LA and thinks he's a big shot and "All Knowing" cause he use to be a steadicam op too... and man that rate is ridiculous also... So lets have a beer at my watering hole Charles and I tell you all about it, I'm Midtown near Piedmont Park, what side of town they got you in?
  18. Was just offered $1000 for 12hrs on a music video... Sure that's a lot of cash for someone with NO experience, but please DO NOT ACCEPT these ridiculous offers. If you too the workshop and own your gear... you deserve your rate. These people know the rates for good steadicam operators and their gear, if they don't... then educate them and walk away from the lowball offers. They WILL find the money if everyone sticks to THIER rate. They are not idiots they know the simple math: Steadicam = $$ LOTS $$ ...but they will play you for an idiot
