  1. I just saw The Adjustment Bureau and want to say that Steve Consentino did an amazing job ! There were a lot of long tracking shots , running, and a bunch of stair work. My hat is off to you Steve. That kind of work is why I got into Steadicam in the first place.

Holy Sh***t, the ending sequence was really incredible. He had to have a segway or something for some of those running shots. Either way, perfect horizons and such energy!

No you are wrong michael. He Didin't use any segway. He just ran with this comfy and amazingly stabilizing shoes.

    Amazing ah?

  2. Howard & MKV Rock! Last Year the TSA Broke my AR distribution box when they packed my gear after inspection. when I arrived in Italy I didn't find out until my second week of shooting, when my Assistant took the AR cage out of the case that all the connectors where bent 90 Degrees.

We tried to fix it but the pins where half broken and half stuck inside the female connectors, I called howard sent him only my box and day and a halve later I had received my box and cables fixed back in Rome. and the AR was back in business, I never stopped working I even got all the low mode shots done just with the AR cage the day that I found out about the TSA's pampering.

There is only one way of storing everything in that case, but because I transport two battery chargers inside this case, the computer and distribution box where packed on top of those chargers. my assistant wanted to prep the AR the first day in Italy but I told him that with the prep that we had done back in the US we where OK plus the first two weeks we would only use traditional steadicam.

This is the first time something brakes on my Nexus or AR since I bought it on 2006. and it was caused by the Bad attitude T.S.A. ( Terrorist Searching Assclowns)

  6. Im shocked at Jeff's passing. i knew he was going to operate until his last days on this planet, either because he was going to get caught in an unfortunate accident thanks to his crazy stunts or because he was going to fall asleep on his 100th birthday.

I always admired how strong, fearless and positive he was. I've known him for many years and worked along side him on an IMAX feature called sea monsters in Kansas, the last time i saw him. i still can't believe he would operate all day long in those huge, dusty, beat up cowboy boots.

He was not only the first steadicam owner, he was the strongest steadicam master ever and the only one that ran the MK-V and AR thru the roughest quality control that that system could ever go thru.

Hopefully, we will operate as long and as healthy as he did.

  7. I owned a set of super speeds. and mine where kept pretty much new for about two years, by me, since i bought them brand spanking new. i noticed that my lens Focus Ring was softer than the ones i got from rental houses.i thought it was just because mine were a privately owned set.i noticed, the ones from rental houses where actually really stiff and that stiffness would increase every time either because the clip on was on, or because my focus motor was to tight on the lens. (sometimes i used to place a little piece of foam in between my D Box and the clip on (To provide a little of upward support) and the lens would soften up, therefore avoiding the focus motor to jump from the gears.) That actually happened with my old Seitz Follow focus, which i purchased from charles papert back in the mid 90s. i think.)

I only found out that the lens actually DO get damage (when, you add the weight of a loaded clip on,PLUS the torque of the focus motor and you over-torque the clip on to the front of the lens. when my lenses became very stiff. so i thought something got inside of them either dust sand or water that eventually affected the inner lubrication on them.) when they smacked me with the bill and the damage report from Zeiss.

This thing actually happened with every single set that i used from many camera rental houses for years. The Reason why i never found out was ?........ because i was never picking up the bill.

  8. I LOVE MY TRANSVIDEO HD. IS SIMPLY THE BEST

in your opinion. Those of us at the shoot picked the Nebtek over the Transvideo, Same for PRO-GPI on the HD rig.

I own A Nebtek 70HDS as a "second directors monitor". great for the price. BUT it doesn't get even close to the transvideo.

FYI I also own a TB6 i haven't used it in the last two years. and probably never will.

  9. Just one more piece information:

The Transvideo 6" HD SuperBright monitor that was at the rotisserie yesterday draws exactly 1.15Amp at 12v. That is to say that you can run this monitor with a Dionic 90 battery for 6.5 hours none stop at full brightness. The monitor accepts any voltage between 10v and 36v DC.

I would be glad to read feedback from Transvideo 6"HD owners about the power consumption of their particular serial number.

Anyone is welcome to stop by our office to check the power consumption of any of the monitors with have here. We will be glad to hook up the amp-meter for you.

I LOVE MY TRANSVIDEO HD. IS SIMPLY THE BEST!

  10. Hi there!

I know most of you probably have the production company handle the shipping of your gear when you travel to shoots, but I am trying to ship my gear from GA to the Dominican Republic. I was wondering what sort of shipping companies you use and what are the general rates?

I went to Fedex.com and got a quote to ship a 40lb package and it quoted me $300! to ship one way!!

Is this how much it usually is to ship something? Do you know of any more affordable ways of getting my gear to my destination?

I can tell you haven't flown there with your gear.

I've being there twice this year and i usually shoot around 6 to 10 times a year in the DR.

I imagine that you are not shooting with a local production company cause you are not aware of the Customs procedures which are the biggest pain in the butt there.

You need to have a bail (Insurance for the temporary import) placed by your local producer at the moment that your gear is coming in with you. the amount of this bail is proportional to the declared value of your gear. when you fly out, they'll go over your gear and make sure it gets checked in your baggage, and then reimburse the Temporary import fee.

Regarding to the Extra-weight charges """"there's no way around that.""""" i usually pay between 500 to 900 USD each way depending on my destination. and trust me a fly everywhere all the time and i always take my gear and camera package with me. and of course production pays for first which usually cuts me a break in extra pieces and extra-weight. there's only one company (Aerofilm) that saves all of these fees and thats because they usually fly us THE CREW in their private Jets.

Have fun there...... and if your gear gets retained by Fed ex customs... just go and dance merengue and get wasted on Presidente until someone manages to get it out of that mess.

  11. Absolutely the same, happened to me.... the last time happened when i was using the masterprimes, with the RED. the first time it happened it was with cookes. both times turned out to be the potentiometer on my M1. the last time i troubleshoot with everything and it was always the M1, i tried my other M1 & all was Sharp. i just got my M1 back from palomar & want to thank Don for his quick response on the fix.

  12. Hi All

Yesterday I was working on a videoclip with some friends and the videoclip was filmed as a single steadicam shot. The playback was a problem because they didn´t have budget to rent a good playback equipment and we decided to use the playback on the steadicam.(The shot satarted with the singer on a point and after walking 150ft arrive where the band was playing)

We used an Ipod conected with a microphone wireless transmiter (and an assistant walking near to me with it). We put the receptor of the microphone conected to the camera, and from the audio out of the camera to a 12V computer speaker powered from the sled...

Was funny and a smart solution, I think...

Next week I´ll try upload the videoclip on youtube.

    best to all,

    Gus.

Great Job Gus!!! glad you are busy and with a steady pulse.
