  1. I wonder if that is unit number 1034 or 34?
  2. Yeah.. I flipped mine upside down for a while. Then flipped it the right way up. Now I just turn it right over for low mode rather than folding it right in. Folding it in is always a bit of a compromise. Its a good monitor. Rock solid.
  3. Are we going to get the grips to run around with this thing whilst we operate? Or are we going to run around whilst the DoP operates?
  4. Part of the responsiveness of the AR is down to the shear size and power of the motors driving the cameras stability as well as the gear ratio and the shear fact that the rest of the axis are stabilized by inertia a la Steadicam. The visual similarity to Lyn's rig is that he didn't have a roll cage and there was a spar to stabilize roll. I imagine you can't oversling the Movi? I only see it underslung in the videos. So gravity and inertia are there to help stabilization. Didn't Garrett Brown put a Stabilized head on his Steadicam Rig for some chase sequences in Star Wars?
  5. Anywhere we can see some work from the Movi at 35mm and 50mm? Was the Epic in the demo film shooting at 4k or 5k? Was any post stabilization done? Personally... I want one.
  6. What impressed me so much is the shear acceleration you can get on this rig. Acceleration from floor to head height. Awesome. The acceleration and speed of some of the tilts would have been difficult on a Steadicam Rig. Thing is. Handheld work on the 24mm lens does look good. Just watch the rooftop scene in Bourne Ultimatum in Marocco. I just spent the afternoon bouncing between the 25mm and 50mm on a prettymuch running shot on paramedics faces backwards through a tunnel. I was thinking if that could have been possible on a Movi. I am not sure. Hugh, how long does it take to put an Epic in there and how long to rebalance the gimble between lenses? I sort of see stunt operators hiring themselves out with these rigs and turning up on set with an Epic already built in the gimble like the Octocopter boys do. Certainly wouldn't be a hard life. How much would you charge for your rollerblades? David.. The Klassen fixture: Gorelink: http://www.walterklassen.com/home-page/equipment-2/handheld/gore-link/
  7. All I can say watching that is.... better learn to rollerblade. http://blog.vincentlaforet.com/2013/04/04/movi-a-revolutionary-handheld-stabilized-system-takes-flight/ Anyway.. what happens when you put it on the end of an arm? Like the klassen fixture. We always have a DoP on set twiddling his fingers. He'll want to operate. Yeah there is no doubt this is going to be chipping away at a lot of Steadicam work. Do you buy one? I do see issues: takes a while to setup very heavy lenses push the camera backwards seems jerky on the 24mm ish lenses used in this movie. How is it going to be on the industry standard 35mm lenses. will it work in the rain? are the motors strong enough for all the plastic It has gone in my mind to being this incredible rig that can do anything to a very niche rig that is very good at certain shots. The shots we don't want to do on Steadicam anyway. All my DoP's will still want to do stuff gently and in a considered manner on the correct tools. Still.. this thing is going to be awesome for action movies! .. better learn to rollerblade
  8. It looks like a nice monitor and these Marell things were bright! Plenty of people out there still using green screen. Besides still plenty of people out there downconverting so they can use their digital bubbles.
  9. Get a mini techno crane is the other option... i just don't think a Gyro in an MR will retain the level all the way. You'll end up with it off at the top. Are you thinking of making it very bottom heavy with the gyro?
  10. Tango, easy-rig with a couple of gyros on or improve you handheld and get really good at squatting on a doorway dolly. Manual Revolution with gravity isn't really designed for this.
  11. I have an MK-V Omega-Revolution and it is far superior to the AR. Seriously responsive and much easier to set-up. I can confirm the above comments for myself. It works very well. I am very happy with it. Some day there will be Omega to go on any sled using a gravity fed monitor bracket and the omega sensor and brain built into the rings. Currently it ONLY works on the MK-V Sleds with V3 or V4 Electronics. The AR/Omega can be heavy but it doen't have to be, it can be difficult to operate but not always depending how you feel and how hard you practise but certainly you'll never want to do a job "on the cheap" with it. What I don't understand is you seemingly haven't done any research on this before posting your question to the board. Refer your client to Chris McGuire or another LA based AR operator and he'll buy you a drink.
  12. I have the Genesis I think. Never tried the flex but the higher cutouts are something I am coveting. There are times when I do notice the lower cutouts for legs being an issue a little.
  13. I just tested the CW7 from IDX and was really impressed. Especially because it has a low and high power button on the TX. If video have an issue its just a question of probably reducing the power and boom.. perfect picture. Breakup was good as well (didn't loose the signal)
  14. Check out Global Media Pro if your on a budget. A few people on this forum really like them.
  15. I saw some guys exhibiting a complete replica of the pro-arm at BVE the other day. Compression cannisters the lot. Looked flimsey. I've tried the Aigle arm too and agree with Charles that it did feel nice. I think I'd rather get a flyer though.
  16. Will one be able to upgrade the firmware on these without sending them back to the USA?
  17. "but Arricam LT's won't" . I have gone upside down on the LT many times. The 435 tends to jam a little more upside down. I went upside down on the previous AAton 35 with no issues. Generally I am not sure scratch issues are what to worry about but film jamming seemed to always be the concern but I'd love to hear others thoughts. Thanks
  18. I am talking breakup at 5ft to 1ft which is standard on all implementations of this chipset. By auto HZ: Its in the same menu you setup output to 720p. try 50hz and 60hz but this issue has nothing to do with that. You've a dry joint in there for a module that interprets the RED signal differently to the Alexa. You need a loaner to back to back them. Sending it in will be a nightmare because they almost certainly don't have a Steadicam, RED Epic and stuff sitting about the workshop and you don't have a week off.
  19. What sled are you running,? How are you powering the unit? have you swapped out the BNC cables for cables from a completely different manufacturer? None of these systems work well when the TX is physically next to the RX or too close. These are I assume different cameras? Yeah I think there is a fault with your particular Recon. Maybe on the logic board that only acts with the red style signal rather than the alexa. Try getting a loaner and testing them against each other.
  20. I am having none of these problems on the RED / Epic you describe. It behaves exactly the same with RED as well as Alexa. The above comments all seem the way to look at your problem. I always run HD SDI via BNC from the camera on the back of the cam or through the sleds internal HD loom from the HDSDI loop through on my decimator to have the TX on the base. I turn the camera brain output to 720p and Auto HZ
  21. Didn't they teach it you in the workshop? I've controversially swapped to Blendtec because the engineering is more advanced (actually I broke up with the owner of the Vitamix). Eric... which side of the great Blender debate do you find yourself supporting? Blendtec or Vita-Mix?
  22. Debate is the cornerstone of democracy and this is a good one. Many well made points. I am excited about the Exovest but not sure about pushing a fully loaded 3D rig or AR with Alexa, codex and monster batteries out on it because there is simply not much there. Maybe its not a bad thing but... I just don't know. Are those 4 upright bars standard 19mm thin walled aluminium? Can we swap them out for thicker walled or 100 % extruded Carbon Fibre (bad idea? Extruded CF?). Not sure if its overpriced or not and I don't work in Tiffen marketing to comment but In a competition between a PRO vest and an Exovest 15 years down the line; which will be still in good condition? I reckon that bottom hinge on the prototype Exovest needs upgrading. I'll break that. I break a lot of stuff that manufacturers told me I couldn't break. Hey a Vita-Mix blender lasted 3 months with me and they are meant to be Meth-smoking hippy proof. I am though very excited about the lower pivot point and if the intellectual property on that is worth the extra $3000 and it truly improves my shots as it likely looks to then I am all for it and good on Chris and Tiffen. Getting into a game of only comodotising manufacturing parts and labour without calculating IP and added KAPOW AWESOME SHOT POSSIBLE value could loose sight of the point... but is a lot of fun. I'll eventually be sure to have one of those things but I might wait for the ExovestX.
  23. Just had word back from Jacques. Yeah! no need for rain covers! You can't submerge it but bits of well placed gaffer tape and you can shoot under a rain machine without a dirty bit of plastic reflecting your focus pullers hipster moustache back in your face,
  24. This monitor looks interesting. Certainly for the AR rig or smaller sleds: http://www.transvideo.eu/en/RainbowHD The back has rubber stoppers in there. Sort of implies its got some water/rain proof features. Trying to find out information at the moment.
  25. Do u think this will cut the mustard? http://www.toshibacameras.com/products/pdf/IK-HR1H.pdf Or do u need OB control Thomas
