  1. I've got a Steadiseg and I can confirm that I really do not think it would have done the second ride up which is the one that snaps it around. Needless to say the man was driving too close and he wasn't paying attention.
  2. Chest pains can be heart burn and you might of had an unusual diet or volume of coffee that upset your stomach on shoot days that you otherwise don't have. Thats what I would be hoping for. Lots of people get chest pains and these range from heart burn to possibly angina or mini heart attacks. Get yourself an Electrocardiogram as soon as you can and see professionals. It is only after operating Steadicam albeit a little one which is very odd. Personally I would panic and see a doctor. Read this article. Its good for everyone to read http://www.menshealth.com/health/safeguard-your-heart
  3. I am trying to get my 6inch XSBL to take an HDMI signal. I press input select a few times and ca't get it into HDMI mode. Gone through the menus. I can't work it out. Can anyone also WeTransfer me the update files for the Xsbl? The files that I can pop onto a USB drive. It is the weekend and need to get this all working by Monday.
  4. It isn't bright enough. Get a Transvideo.
  5. The Mantis does cost around 12,000 pounds to make. They are really well made and engineered.
  6. I've heard of people using plumbers tape as a temporary fix in this exact situation. Speak to Chris at Optical Support in the UK as I know he has corrected this properly for some people. Best Regards Thomas
  7. So this looks the same chipset as the Bolt 2000 or the Boxx Atom. Interesting. Is there a price yet?
  8. Can you see the monitor through all the angles? whats the handset controller for?
  9. I think the cotton balls comment comes from ignorance. A seasoned director envisions a shot and the budget to get said shot. A joker comes along having watched these amazing shots and is then frustrated when their inexperienced crew can't afford the kit, expertise and mainly time to get those shots. The director then gets frustrated and calls the crew cotton balls. I see these devices making certain shots slightly easier under certain conditions. That's it.
  10. Why don't you get a blank battery plate for the bottom of your PRO and hard bolt the gyros into that? Interesting to see how you finally go about it. I've got a gyro job tonight.
  11. Let's face it. It's the same weight as the epic and I do steadicam jobs all the time on them. Gimbles take 20% of our work but also 50% of our competition as DoPs straight out of film school are buying Gimbles and not flyers. I'm excited about the handheld metal work, 15mm bar sets, etc etc. Arri design team are good. This camera with anamorphics and 15mm matt box will be an easy day. Looking forward to it!
  12. For certain a lot of focus pullers are liking the Arri WCU-4 a lot. It is worth surveying your focus pullers and asking what they want. Another advantage of the Preston is the full range of motors that will work on it. The WCU4 only works with Arri motors right? I mix and match Hedens and Preston motors. I have the Arri motors on my C-Motion white. I like them.
  13. If I had a choice right now... Preston
  14. i think it is a difficult decision right now. People really seem to like the new Arri and the benefits to us are obvious. No brain no hassle and quicker onto sticks and handheld means less humping a Steadi for no reason. I've got a Preston and it works with the data stream from a Cinetape and it earns me money every job. I also think that the next 5 years will see a LOT more sony in major cinema/commercials work. Arri do have a history of not playing nice. Whilst you have a brain on the WCU-4 if you want it. I forget.. can it work in 12v? The WCU-3 couldnt? Whats the score with run cables? Like I say Arri don't play nice. I got burnt on their colaboration with C-motion and their deciding not to support the Cinetape through the C-motion (without brain) whilst supporting it on their wireless. To me that kind of marketing manipulation is not what I want from a supplier so best to stick to an independant that wants to cater for everyone. Go with Preston.. but its tough choice right now its a bigger unit some early mdr3's fried but they fixed all that with their power board changes. With future changes.. Preston.
  15. For reference I have started a Steadicam Rickshaw Pinterest page. I would love it if people could email me interesting photos of Steadicam Rickshaw setups to post there. http://www.pinterest.com/thomasenglish/steadicam-rickshaw/ Or ping me your pinterest account so I can add you to be able to pin to the board. tom at thomas english .com
  16. Gaffer tape is far better at attaching filters to Mattbox's.
  17. Best to email Optical support or they can post a picture here themselves. I can vouch that its an awesome bracket but it is not on their site.
  18. Optical Support in the UK make a very good one. It has the ability to quick release slide the mdr3 fore and aft and remove it to put onto a speedy clamp for camera mounting in a jiffy.
  19. Yeah I second the busbee inspection. Top bloke!
  20. I want to buy a Wagner WXB. I have been practising the Steadicam thingy for a long time and those completely side tracking shots with horizontals all over the frame that require dead stops are very very hard. Also those hard fast tilt ups over 75degrees into a situation that gives away your level. People don't seem to notice but I am often not too pleased with my results. I would buy a Wagner tomorrow for those exact Situations. Can it fit onto an AB plate?
  21. I think it isn't a problem with V-Locks putting unprotected batteries in parallel but I heard AB batteries do have issues with back charging hence why PRO now have a diode on the AB plate.
  22. I am selling a 3a Topstage and a 2in monitor bracket as well as a couple of lenses including a 50mm superspeed. http://www.thomasenglish.co.uk/stuff-for-sale Thanks
