  4. Hey All, We were fortunate enough to secure a location for the upcoming practice session in the Los Angeles area. This Sunday May 2nd from 1:00p.m. - 4:00p.m. there will be a practice session for all those that want to bring out their gear and get some good training while in your down time. The session will be at the Hollywood Heritage Museum across from the Hollywood Bowl on Highland ave in Hollywood, CA. The museum is well known as the first studio ever in Hollywood back in 1913, created by Cecille B. DeMille, Jesse Laskey, and Sam Goldwyn. We will have full use of the facility inside and out. All gear must be set up on the deck or the grass in the front. Please bring water for hydration. All Steadicam Operators are welcome whether your in the guild or not. Assistants and actors are welcome to participate as well. Practice at your own risk. Please no children or animals. There is a $5.00 donation for every person that attends. This goes towards facility use without hassle from the city, use of parking lot, admission to museum (which is awesome!), and you get to contribute to an organization that has helped save what is left of Old Hollywood. The best part of the museum, the camera that Charlie Chaplin used to film The Gold Rush (1925) is on display!! So amazing! Please come and participate! We may walk into Hollywood for food and drinks after. Pig N' Whistle? Hollywood Heritage Museum 2100 N. Highland Ave Los Angeles, CA 90068 hollywoodheritage.org Sunday May 2nd 2010 1:00p.m. - 4:00p.m. Free parking on site. 10. I just got the news. I am so sad right now. Five years ago I was in Ohio dreaming of what my days would be like in Los Angeles and what it would be like being a Steadicam Operator. Three years ago I met Jeff at Cinegear and have been in contact with him ever since. I not only got to know that person he was but the legend he was. He told me some amazing stories probably some of the most crazy, shocking, scary, and fun operating stories of all time. I wish I had more time to spend with him. He was a super fun person to be around. I am deeply saddened by his passing. I hope he is rocking the Steadicam up in Heaven! Adios Amigo!
  11. I just went to the Artemis Showcase at Bexel this week. I have to say I was very impressed with the rig. Curt wants $26,000 USD for Artemis HD EFP complete package. I believe he said it can hold up to a 40 Ibs camera. Don't quote me on that but I do know it is stronger than an archer. Oh and it held the red like nothing. Here is the link: http://shop.artemis-hd.de/en/Camera-Stabil...-Systems/?cur=2 Happy Hunting!

  14. Thanks for the happy birthdays guys! See you soon.
  15. I worked with the Z1U's before and we recorded live on FTP (SD) and on tape (HD) at the same time. Check your menu. I believe there is an option to output. I am not definite though. If you don't have that model camera to work with I suggest going to a camera house and asking someone to show you the Z1U.
  16. I vote new bar next year. Happy Birthday Juan!
  17. Good times last night at your place Ron. Thanks for hosting, the food was great. Glad to see everyone there! Thanks Brad for the advice about my knee. Can't wait to get back in the swing of things. See you guys next time!
  18. When I worked at Tiffen factory there was a ProVid we repaired for the Air Force in TX. The guys in TX actually new nothing about the rig.
  19. Thanks to all of you guys for a wonderful time! Happy Birthday Erwin and BJ!
  20. I second the manning of the Peter! Your going to have lots o fun :)
  21. Lisigav and golden showers. I think I am a little disturbed by this.
  22. I recommend a 2 day flyer workshop because it is fairly priced, great instructors and you learn the basics of Steadicam operation. The basics are the different components of a rig, how to wear one, composing a shot, center gravity, transitions, hand work, foot work, strength of the rig, strength of your body, and how far your limits are. If you want to get into a bigger rig then I recommend the five day workshops but they only come about 2-3 times a year. You can also take a private workshop with Paul Taylor. He is an excellent instructor and operator. I believe Peter Abraham has a few spots open for his workshop in San Diego. It's September 14th and 15th. Workshop runs from 8am - 5pm both days. Peter has such wonderful energy and loves what he does. You will leave that workshop inspired and more determined. Here is his contact info: pabraham@tiffen.com or (917) 453-1219 Hope this helps! 23. Watch out for Marty he bites! Just kidding he is a good guy and knows everything about gimbals. Good luck with that ;)
  24. Nate, Looks like you are pretty new to anything Steadicam. Advice from one newbie to another, please make sure Steadicam Operation is what you really want to do. Make sure you are going into it for all the right reasons and you are going to do what it takes to succeed. Prepare yourself more before you purchase an expensive rig like the Ultra 2. Take a workshop, shop around, learn the equipment, make contacts and prepare your body. Most of all make sure it is a wise financial decision, whether you have the money to throw around or not. Remember you are investing in yourself and if you have what it takes. Never assume a rig will guide you, you have to guide the rig. Anyone can put on an Ultra 2 but some people won't have the touch, patience and physical strength needed to be successful. If your set on Steadicam and are ready, then I say go for it! Best, Jess
