  1. I have been contacted by someone looking for Dave Luckenbach. He is not a member of the SOA so I don't have his info. If anyone knows how to get a hold of him, or if Dave reads this post, I will gladly pass along the contact info to them. I would rather not give Dave's info without his permission. Thanks for any help. Jay Kilroy SOA
  2. Gentlemen, Here is the wesbsite you are looking for http://www.thesamba.com/vw/ . they have a great classified section. I have been looking for a Westphalia for a while now. Tons of west coast bus/vans. Have fun. Jay
  3. Another little trick is to lay down chain link fencing then cover it with sand. It gives you the stability on the sand and you can hide it so it won't be seen by the camera. Jay
  4. Careful Dave, eric may "yell" at you for not using your real name!
  5. Imran and our other non-US SOA members, I have been assured by the editors that the offer applies to everyone. If you have any problems with the form, Jennifer (editor) has asked me to have you contact her. So if you find any problems email me and I will pass along her address. Jay
  6. Special "Association of the Week" promotion at MovieMaker Magazine. The Steadicam Operators Association is MovieMaker.com's "Association of the WeeK" and because of that SOA members are getting a free subscription to the magazine. Members can log on to the SOA site and find the link to the offer on your login page. Its not much fellas but its free, ha. Be sure to check out the MovieMaker Site for the little blurb on the SOA
  7. Actually Andrew, just the opposite, it is never too early for a workshop. Infact, earlier the better, before you learn bad habits. Jay
  8. Interesting, so will sales be denied only to XCS owners or will this include any non mk-v owners? Reasons given(any you can share)? And thank you Mr. Arnot for all the detailed and informative write ups throughout the process. Nick I will first say that I do not have much exposure to the AR, I have seen and "messed" around with one, not mine. I thought the reasoning behind the MK-V only sales, was because the strength of their top stage set ups, and that others couldn't handle the torque? Is this not the fact? jay
  9. Dave, I doubt you'll find that set up anywhere. You can always "soft mount", where you wear the rig and ride what ever it is you were going to hard mount to. Tiffen makes a retro version of the ProVid set up where it uses the the same socket block as the master series, you can check into that option. I don't know if they make the same for the SK. That arm is pretty limited. jay
  10. Check out these two spots Grainger or McMaster-Carr Good luck jay
  11. Dan, I have the Magellan 2200 T, my wife got it for me as a Christmas present last month. I love it, I have nothing to compare it to, but I love it. Easy to use and understand and from the looks of the website it is upgradable to your needs. Let me know what you think. jay kilroy
  12. Peter in order for it to be a pun or sarcastic it has to be 1) Funny and 2) something that people would recognize. Your's was neither. As for your claim, that's what Eastern called the 727 sarcastically. The 727 is the loudest commercial jet flying. So loud in fact that even with Hush-kits it's still banned from 45% of the nations commercial airports. Are you kidding me?
  13. Thanks Andrew, I'll check them out.
  14. Gentlemen, and ladies, Our studio is in the process of converting from Triax to Fiber. Does anyone know if there is a fiber set up the likes of the triax set ups? This is an example of the triax connectors from Tiffen's website 250-7837 Triax Interconnect Kit "Kings Connector" MS/Ultra $1,795.00 250-7837-01 Triax Interconnect Kit "Fischer Connector" MS/Ultra $1,795.00 Let me know if you guys are using anything out there for fiber that you would reccomend and/or steer away from. Thanks Jay Kilroy
  15. Justin, Contact me off forum, I have a great garfield mount. I have listed them here and on the SOA classifieds before. Like I said give me a call or email me. jay kilroy jkilroy@steadicam-ops.com
  16. Guido, That VW is awesome. What is the model name of that, T5? Looks very different from US van model. Which would make sense, since here it's the "Eurovan". Would love to see more pics, I am a huge VW fan. jay
  17. How was Steadicam Night at the SOC? Any highlights to share?
  18. Mark, Do you notice any difference in the "action" of the arm when you switch between the front socket black and the back? Just curious. jay kilroy
  19. Brad, How are you? Greg Lundsgaard was selling a Preston system on the SOA Classifieds, he might be willing to rent it if it hasn't been sold yet. Hope this helps. jay
  20. Stasia, The fact that you are a small framed woman has nothing to do with your fatigue. It will get better with practice and improved muscle memory. I suggest you take a workshop. If you are planning on looking at the Flyer. Peter Abraham gives workshop geared towards the Flyer. The SOA also has a workshop scheduled for October. We usually have a Flyer there, but the workshop is done with the bigger rigs. On a side note, we often have Laurie Hayball as an instructor. She is one of the best operators I have seen, she's petite and a woman. So again, don't think you can't do it beacuse of your size or gender. jay kilroy
  21. Chris, My name is Jay Kilroy, I help organize, run and instruct the SOA Workshops in Pennsylvania. If you search the archives of this forum you'll find many great testimonials regarding our workshop. Here is more info on it, if you haven't seen our webpage, SOA. The next workshop is scheduled for October 8th to the 13th. Jerry Holway, as always, will be our lead instructor. Please feel free to contact me with any other question you may have. Hopefully we will see you in the Fall. Regards, jay kilroy jkilroy@steadicam-ops.com
  22. Alan is not that handsome, kind of, but not really. :P
