Is the room ours for a certain period of time? How does it work? I was at the get together last year, no where near 50 people. If that's the case I don't think we have much to worry about? There must be something to this, correct? It sounds like a very impressive spread planned, Mike will we be in our own room for this spread? The original post seemd like we needed to all fit at one table, is this the case? I hope this works out. It seems as though Mike and his wife have done a lot of planning and it shouldn't go to waste. It seems to me that we should be able to find a place to get together after the Expo. I will staffing the Tiffen Booth, so I won't be able to make the picnic. I am sure Jerry, Garrett, Frank and Kyle will be pretty busy during as well. Although I shouldn't speak for them. Maybe we can find a place that doesn't need reservations??? Last year was a bit crowded but I thought it was great moving from table to table and group to group and just chatting and getting my drink on. I don't know this whole thing has kind of gotten a little sour, no?

Don't apologize, it should be an open invitation to ALL ops! Erwin is right this whole thing is heading in a terrible "elitist" direction. I had a great time last year meeting everybody that was "new" to me. I was hoping to meet some "new" friends this year. I have been operating for over eight years and just learned something "new" at the last workshop, does that mean I can't come to Gladstones? This is a f***ing joke!

With the SOA being a non-profit organization we have to take what we can get these days!!

If there are any East Coast Guys interested, we will mostly likely have the G-70 arm at the May workshop. HOPEFULLY we can have a new rig too, I'll speak with Frank. Anyway if anyone wants to come out a join us at the workshop one day get in touch with me. The students love to have ops come out and share war stories and knowledge. Give me a call or email and we can try and coordinate a day to have you join us. We can't take anytime from the students but as some of you know there is always some freetime to get in a rig. Gordon, Do you remember the IIIA I had at your workshop? It had the same problem. Eric and Erwin are right, your trippler is bad and when I resereched it, there weren't a lot of those around. There is a little red/orange knob connected to the board at the base of the tube. You can adjust the monitor's picture with that knob. It's only a quick fix. It seemed to work best on mine when I would let it get completely out of focus. Then I would adjust it and it would stay good for a while but eventually drift out. But like what has been said to you in these other posts, start thinking about a new monitor. jay

And thus lies the issue. This was supposed to be a forum of Professionals, Discussing Professional gear and Professional issues. Then Tim started to advertise which led to the google search-ability. At first it was fine, then the enthusiast started to get bold and really increase the Noise, That's when I asked Tim for the Steadi-Newbies forum. A place where newbies could respectfully ask questions and get answers. A place where someone could ask questions about the gear and the art that they got to see when they were on "Spring Break" In the mean time most of Us that do this for a living, the ones that really started this place back in the AOL Message board days, started to leave. Departures were fueled by people with little to no experience giving advice, Bad advice, clueless and ill-informed advice (We just had one of those situations happen again) and then those advice givers attempting to argue with those of us that do this for real, with the big rigs on the big shows. I stopped by the set of a show that I dayplayed on covering for their normal operator and guess what he brought up? This issue and he cited it as why he doesn't post anymore. We are busy enough working, yet we make the time to come here and try to give advice but then we get people arguing with us and telling us that we are "Bashing gear" gear that they claim can provide the same results that the "Big Rigs" can. Operators that don't really have the experience to understand what they are feeling and why things happen. Then you want us to educate you... We've been trying. Y'all just aren't listening Well said Eric, hopefully you won't be one of the ones who stops posting.

Oliver, You're absolutely right. I work with triax all the time and that is exactly how I balance. Do you have to attach the triax right to the camera or do you have a nice piece of thin flexible cable you can use? I have the Tiffen triax set up with my rig. The triax comes into my adaptor on my vest and then from my vest to the camera I have a great lightweight, very thin and flexible cable I use. Huh?? Who is we? Tim Tyler started this forum and that's where the operators started to post. This site ran into a problem when it started having advertising and sponsorship, that's when the signal to noise ratio when thru the roof. No sadly most of the people that used to post don't, and I both understand and agree with their reason's for it. The "we" is the SOA. "WE" the SOA had its own forum on "OUR" (the SOA) own site. Are you seriously trying to come at me over my post here? I was simply stating that I don't think there is any need for 2 steadicam forums. I am not trying to take credit for anything to do with this forum, give me a break Eric.

We used to have a seperate forum on the SOA site and we decided to combined the two so we could bring EVERYONE in the industry together. It's too bad we have to branch off to another forum because of a few individuals who get a little too annoyed and other individuals who's skin is a little too thin. It goes both ways. I will stay here and encourage others to do the same. It's nothing personal, I just don't think we need another forum. Keep in mind this forum has over 1000 members, and maybe 5 or 6 have caused some problems. jay kilroy VP, SOA

Michael, I have the EMS "Chilkats" they may be a bit much for LA temps, but I love them. Warm, dry and comfy. They have some great waterproof stuff with out the thinsulate that you might want to check out.
