  1. Hey Victor, Three things about the DVX and screws ... 1) Yes 1/4 -20 are the right size & 2) Important.... You need only go in 3 or 4 thread revolutions, the DVX have a shallow clearance to the goodies inside & 3) Don't over tighten the screw, they have a history of breaking the little plastic part that is the thread holder thingies' in the bottom. If you are new to the DVX go to DVXUSER.com ... A wealth of Info. If not it's still worth the trip? Steve
  2. Eric and everyone, I started this tread to gather some information on early CP?s in reference to my Over Zealous purchase of the Basson. I admit it was un-researched and impulsive. But to have all the ego based bashing of $3600 system ?kinda makes me laugh, Do you laugh or belittle the guy with an old BMW just because you have a new SL500? ( I have the AMG, just for you guys without Ultras) No, we talk gas and tires & wax. That?s all I was interested in. What I found was a club of guys that hang their egos on a heap of steal. I speedskate. I didn?t start with $4000 skates. I started with $300 skates that ended up hurting my feet. But I did my laps. Very often passing up 45 year old guys with $4000 skates. So gear is not always the answer. Eric I did watch your reel after checking your profile, after reading your overtly non-creative abortion crack. ( Jesus, abortion? Have you ever witnessed an abortion? ) Your reel was solid & professional. I packed the info away. So I waited for more responses. Rob responded. I checked his profile after his ?Take me serious? comment. I can do those same shots with my Basson, Sorry. But I listen. Then Mikko chimes in? If you read my first post I was simply looking for info. on a rig I will never see first hand. That?s it. Just a thought, Steve
  3. You know ... you're right. I started as a still guy 20 years ago. First Used Nikon, then New Nikon. Used Hassy then new Hassy. Used Sinar then new Sinar. Then came film. Bolex, then 16 ARRI's, then 35’s, then ... Well you get it. I impulsively bought an ebay Basson wanting to get my feet wet in Steadi, to try it out. For Pete sake ... We are all new sometime. I’m self-made, which means I have earned & learned with my OWN money. Not DAD's trust fund or whatever. So I try baby steps to see if it is even anything I'm interested in and can sell to my market. I could buy a rig today if I felt Solid on my decision. But who wants a $800 a month payment on a kit that there is no work for ? Thanks for responding, Steve PS Sorry Mikko for the shitty comment. Please except my apology.
  4. It's really all about information, market & marketing and return on investment. It was nothing to do with emotion with brand recognition or the elitists thinking of a club. I'm one for the busier DP?s in Detroit and smart with my money. Just trying something new. I wish this thread would have taken a different direction. Steve
  5. Nice Ass Kissing Mikko. I have sandals older than you and billed over $600,000 last year in a bad US economy. So don't tell me about professional. Take a look at Rob's posted reel. Wag, wiggle and sway.
  6. Paul, dosen't take much to confuse you does it ? Dr. Steve Karr BirdBoy Pictures co. Detroit
  7. I guess my question invites bashing. Well ... in the end all that matters are the pictures. Rod, I saw your reel. My Basson can wag, loose level and bounce just like that. It's the player, not the violin.
  8. Hey everyone, Please don?t take this as an opportunity to bash Basson again, I know ALL ABOUT 'em, but looking at the early CP/Steadicam products, they seem pretty low Tech. So aside from Pablo being a whinner, is a Basson much worse that an early Steadicam product ? They made Rocky with a pretty simple rig ? and a Basson is still $5000 including mods to make it pretty useable. Steadi's of that time were 30k, in the '70... That's like 60k now! Just a thought ... Steve
  9. Boy I'm a bit envious too... my High School had metal shop, wood shop & football. Jazz band got cut to finance a new wielder & we didn't even have a photo club .... To be 18 again....
  10. Hi Everyone, I am the new "Proud" owner of a Basson 925. Don't laugh. I have been following some of the mods here to try to find some peace with my purchase. I found this site after. Anyway ... I have the Panasonic 7" monitor for now but am close to buying a used Eclipse to replace it. If you have any input on this gear please let me know ... I would like to be able to see outside but don't want to buy something with known problems. Oh, it's $1000 if that is in the equation. Thanks in Advance, Steve Karr steve@birdboypictures.com
  11. Hi everyone, Don?t laugh, I have been learning with a Hollywood Lite for the last 3 or so years. I just bought a Basson 925 rig. Seemed cool on the web site & a few weeks later she arrived. For DOG sake this thing is heavy. The sled I modified with 12v Anton batts & a Panasonic 7? monitor. With a DVX100a (small DV camcorder) the sled weight is 41 lbs. Is this about normal for you real rig shooters ? I will just grin & train up to the weight if this is reasonable, but whata? surprise !! I?m 39 yrs old & a good shape 195, but I get sore after 15 min. and have to rest my lower back. So what do yea think ? Thanks in advance, Steve
