  1. Best of luck to you Charles. Very exciting entering a new chapter! Cheers to you and yours! Jeff
  2. Im currently using the sony PVM 740, but my problem exists with every HD monitor on the market, and I have spoken with Howard and replaced the center cable and boxes, Same problem. I have obviously, tested other monitors, cables, etc. Perhaps its simply too long of a cable at that thickness to maintain HDSDI...
  3. I would like to know if any of my fellow MK-V owners have had issues with HD signal in the V3 electronics? My HD-SDI signal blacks out when ever a walkie talkie is keyed anywhere near my rig. I assume its a simple shielding issue that upsets the HD signal momentarily to my monitor. This is a real problem as an AD is usually cueing over the radio at the start of a take. Anyone else see this problem that owns a 4 stage, 2" post and the V3 boxes? Jeff
  4. Thanks Chris. So you don't think it's too big? The weight is not a problem - as it is only 300grams heavier. I think I will go with the 8" Go bigger. I think its more a matter of the 6" being too small. Its what has kept me away. The 6" screen is simply too small when you look at a letter box image in it. And a standard def 4x3 image is silly small. By the time you take into account the distance your eyes are from the screen, you loose the benefit of HD. Go big. Im glad to see Transvideo spending time on a larger screen. BTW, I love the Sony OLED monitor, PVM740 7.4". Jeff
  5. I have bought three rigs from MKV. Just got my new Genesis V3 this week. Very happy with service, response and delivery time. No complaints here! For what I do it's a great rig. Howard has always bent over backward to accommodate me and my demands. Whatever problems from the past seem to have been resolved. John A I will jump on this positive MKV thread. I agree with John. My experience with Howard and the folks at MKV has always been very good. I love my MKV! Very diverse and modular equipment. Try everything before you buy and see what fits best into your world, best of luck.
  6. Guys, anyone know of a manufacturer in the US that makes this or something very similar/better. I am looking for solutions to mount any monitor with a 1/4 or 3/8 thread hole to my MKV monitor rail/spigot. This is a universal LCD monitor mount from Artimes/Sachtler. Thanks Jeff
  7. I agree with what is said here, except, Saving your hearing is a good investment! The truck systems that are usually supplied wont help your hearing. The custom setups described here with professional noise dampening in-ear buds will offer some reasonable ear protection. I have shot way to much music over the years and my hearing is severely compromised. I wish I had got my in ear monitors much earlier then I did. I have been using a comtek setup (described above), transmitter is on the camera with a break out cable to a short mic that utilizes the camera PL. Receiver on the vest with a set of "Shure E5" in ear monitors. They may have a newer model or equivalent available. Be sure they can handle moisture. There are many of these products on the market now with the world of Ipods. Good luck to you. Jeff
  8. The Alexa is a dream camera in a scripted environment, but when you are flying for a live event/multi-camera type of show, it's no picnic. Totally different needs when you are shooting 30-60 minutes plus, continuously, all day long without docking. The camera weight becomes much more important. As a 35mm sound camera solution, its very light and my new first choice! As a multi-cam/live entertainment video camera, its a monster!
  9. Im with you guys! I will only work with an F-35 with the fiber setup out of NY. See photo.

  11. I used a tight bongo tie. Kinda sad for this beautiful camera but until Arri adds a thumb screw to tighten the ring its the best I could do. Arri is very aware of the problem and Im sure it will get resolved. Growing pains Jeff
  12. Welcome East Dave! I use an inexpensive electric heater in my garage, the enclosed type so there is no hot coils exposed. When the temp outside starts to drop well below freezing, I simply keep it set for 45-50 degrees so nothing gets to extreme (my garage is well insulated). Everything is in cases and batteries on chargers conduct enough heat on their own. Iv'e been doing this for 20 years and never had a problem. Im surprised my vest has not walked away on its own... it certainly could use some fresh air once in awhile. Jeff
  13. Hey BJ, your going to love this little camera! Im on my 4th week with it and Arri has finally done it. Great camera, all ARRI! same cables. We record on the cards only for Steadicam and we use a fiber box for recording dual link to tape for all the rest (cards become our backup record) Nothing really new to learn here, you need an HD monitor or downconverter (no built in downconverter). Low mode plates are rare at this time but the next software update will have an Image invert feature so it will become a flipped camera, easy... For now, I am recording upside down and flipping the image in our card to tape transfer, still no big deal. Overall, I really love this camera. I think Arri has brought on the death of Film, this camera is that good! Cheers, Jeff
  14. I have a recollection of this being talked about before for demo reel use, but I cant find it in the archives. Who knows how to use Itunes movies in Final Cut Pro? I know there is licensing issues, but I am sure there is a way to beat the security features of these movies. My use is strictly personal so nothing illegal going on. What software removes the copy protection??? thanks, Jeff
  15. Guys, anyone know who makes the soft case that carries both a vest and arm? I remember one that is soft and rounded that has enough padding for some protection but I cant remember who makes the darn thing???? Thanks, Jeff
  16. Thanks for the offer Robert. Bummer for me, glad you are working though. Anybody else you know of in LA that has one and might be willing to rent it to me? I'll start a new post regarding that too. Thanks Try calling Dave Eastwood or Rob Vouna. Any of the live video guys will have this jumper. Also, you might find it at an Arriflex house, they use the same fiber system with the D-21. I carry 2, but I cant part with it. You'll love the camera, very light, built in downconverter. Feel free to give a call if you want to talk about it, I use this camera very often. Jeff
  17. Anyone aware of a discount for a Merlin for ops? Franks Rush? Peter A? Or do I just grab it at B & H for list? I am looking to pick one up. Thanks
  18. Jeff how was your Flash Forward? Not Me Erwin, haven't done that show. Erwin"to much TV" Landau
  19. I can say with some certainty, that the Modulus, does and will interfere with HD SDI signals. Put the modulus somewhere else on the sled, far away from any open HDSDI connectors. I Have seen this problem. I will tell you that a Walkie talkie that is too close will black you out (or blue you out) as well. I have experienced these brief black outs with any very close, powerful, RF transmission with an HD monitor.
  20. BRAVO! great work here. what rig?
  21. Here was a make shift snowmobile soft mount I did for opening ceremonies, Lillihammer Winter games 1994'
  22. I Just wanted to demonstrate my use of "Don Juan"
