  1. Elliot, There is a thread on the cinematography forum about flying that camera on steadicam. It may be the same person who called you about the job. You should take a look at the thread for yourself, but I think I remember reading that that camera is very heavy....in the range of a BL4 I believe. The person who made that post commented that he had contacted a steadicam operator who said the weight would be "no problem". Here is a link to the thread.
  2. His new cart actually weighs the same as his old cart.
  3. Only Ron and BJ use that stuff! I don't touch it! I just laugh and point when I see them with a tube in their hands.
  4. Brooks, What have the Canatrans people said? They may have some info that would help. You'd think if this was a common problem that they might have a fix. You've probably already gone that route, so just a thought....
  5. I've worked with ESPN on many occasions. Sometimes they pay slow and sometimes they don't, but that seems to depend on who the producer is. With one particular producer that is based out of LA I've been paid pretty quickly on every job. When I did golf with them years ago it took a while to get paid. Other than that issue I've found most of the people to be great to work with, although I haven't worked with the person you mentioned.
  6. No gav for you! You'll take it rough and dry and you'll like it!
  7. Good point. Plus 75% of movies coming out on DVD aren't in HD yet. I've only recently seen ads for movies that are being released in both formats. There was another dual player that was out like 6 months ago that played both, but it was kind of a secret, and it was going for $700ish I think. Toshiba maybe...
  8. Just buy a HD DVD/BluRay player and you'll be covered for both formats. Half the reason I bought a PS3 was for the BluRay player. It's pretty cool.
  9. How did you guys get the picture into the right format? I've created a new 'yellow' me, but I can't manage to upload it here as my avatar. It says it's in the wrong format. Any suggestions?
  10. I'm from FL and worked with a handful of people who went to Fullsail while I was working in FL. Most of the people that I knew that went to Fullsail wished they hadn't. It's very expensive and they spend very little time actually shooting. As far as I know they don't deal with Steadicam at all. From what I've heard, they market the school very well, but don't run it very well. But all of this is hearsay, so try to talk to people who've gone there yourself for more information.
  11. That doesn't look fun to fly or balance. Surely they'll come up with something better for steadicam.....
  12. Uh, it's a Sharpie....specifically, the silver one. I'm sure Sharpie exists in England.....
  13. One tube of the 'gav for my gimbal, and another for BJ.
  14. The new HU3 rocks! Mine has already been dropped on concrete (not the A.C.'s fault) and it's working great. Lens changes are so fast sometimes I wish they would be slower so I could rest a bit! A great piece of kit.
  15. Ahh........memories!
  16. No NDA here. Different people than the ones you saw. But the fact that you're asking is proof that the trick worked well I guess. I'm happy to divulge, but maybe some people would like to try figure it out before I spoil it?
  17. I appreciate the feedback, but I think maybe I'm not understanding exactly what you mean.
  18. Thanks for the feedback Rob. I would have loved to do something different. I guess you didn't notice that the people changed clothes every time they went to the other side. This involved a trick which meant that I was very restricted in what I could have in frame during those moves in and out. That situation affected my opportunities for different framing choices as well. Of course, what you see is what the director and DP wanted as well....I was just the monkey with the camera. I'm sure you understand that I didn't design the whole shot. The only part I was able to add my two cents for was the bit over and around the bed. But I'm happy with how it turned out overall, and the bosses were happy too. I actually like the song, so that helps as well. Regarding using zooms in the shot....that could have been nice, but it wasn't what they wanted. I just realized that I wrote "one take video" in the subject line. It was not one take of course...I'm a dope.
  19. I did this one take music video recently, and it's now up on yahoo music. http://music.yahoo.com/musicvideos/lists/new.asp Scroll down a bit and click on "Love and Happiness" by Marc Broussard. Take a look and let me know what you think.
  20. For those of you who own an iphone....have you had any problems with the phone touching your face while you're on a call and ending the call or opening other applications? I heard it automatically locks the screen, but does it work?
  21. I remember seeing some BTS footage of him a few years back shooting off of a bike on top of the US Bank building in downtown LA for a music video. It didn't necessarily look dangerous, but just the thought of it sent shivers up my spine.
  22. Chas, that's great. But I think you have a little too much time on your hands.
  23. How about: Rig Humper DTB Standicam Level Horizons Flying Neutral
  24. I'm curious why you say this....I've flown the Pro35 once with superspeeds and many many times with Cooke S4's, which seems to me to be the favorite combination. Is it different on the other side of the Atlantic?
