  1. Thanks for the tips Rod, and thanks for the detailed response Alec. It's always very much appreciated. The bummer is that I got a call from the UPM at like 7PM saying, "Oh, Brad I have to cancel you. The DP wanted his own guy and he already called him so we don't need you." Oh well, at least it's another operator I know and know is a nice guy and good operator that deserves the work. I guess I'll fly that camera on another day. Thanks again for the tips guys. They'll be just as informative when I do fly the 535 as they were today. The upside of having a job go away is that I can stay up late, drink wine and play poker! At least that's something....
  2. Thanks for the tip, but that was the first thing that was asked for and denied. It's either a money thing or a time thing, since they only have one camera, but either way it's not happening.
  3. Hi. I got a last minute call today for a job tommorrow with a 535b. I've never flown this camera before, so I'm looking for any in and outs that are specific to this camera. I've heard it's heavy, although I'm not sure exactly how heavy. They are getting lightweight mags and a clip on matte box and those types of steadicam goodies, so that should help with the weight. Any tips, recommendations, or advice with this camera will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  4. Hmm, well someone posted pics that had porn banners all over the page. Must not have been you. Sorry. :P
  5. I think he has. Didn't it have a bunch of naked people having sex on it?
  6. GII with a zoom and 1000 ft. mag? All I can say is WOW! I sure wouldn't do it. I'm sure my master arm would fly it comfortably since I had plenty left to go when I've flown GII's in the past, but a 1000 ft mag and a zoom?! Come on! You know, there are times when, "Sorry, that can't be done" is an acceptable response. I've been asked to do stuff like that in the past and said "no" in a respectable way, and no one had a problem with it. You'll only make things harder on yourself and your gear when you say yes to things like this. And really, what's the point anyway?
  7. You crashed and the director still said that! Well, you must have done well through the rest of the job! At least you got a couple of tough "firsts" out of the way! Congrats on your first job.
  8. I'm bummed I missed the get together. I had a lot of fun last year and I'm sure this year was no different. I just couldn't pass up the chance to see The Hives, Bad Religion, The Strokes, Velvet Revolver, and The Beastie Boys all together at the Weenie Roast. And I had backstage passes to boot. Hope nobody missed me too much! :P
  9. Having to do that to get your paperwork must have made your blood boil! Well, at least you got it and you're on to bigger and better PAYING jobs.
  10. David, Have you filed a claim or tried small claims court (maybe the sum is too big)? Has anyone else from the crew done this? I'm just curious as to why you haven't if you haven't.
  11. By the looks of the picture, he's doing double duty as an electrician. Somebody should tell the guy it's OK to put the rig down while he hangs a light.
  12. The wheel is for those jobs with an extra heavy camera.....you know, in case the car does a wheelie! The "leg squeeze" is a highly advanced camera stabilization technique. You know you've all done it!
  13. No, it's not a reality show. Thank god right! It's a 1 hour scripted drama. I don't know for sure if it's definately shooting in Austin yet though. I'm not sure that decision has even been made yet.
  14. Make it four. A series just got picked up that will probably shoot there (the pilot was shot there) for the WB.
  15. Sounds fun. Eric, you have to give us a head start!
  16. Is this the one you mean? http://www.russianark.spb.ru/eng/foto_rep_024.html It's right there with all the others.....how'd you miss it? ;)
  17. Marc, Follow the link Dave posted. There are more photos there.
  18. I've seen many Astro monitors before, but I hadn't seen this one. Just curious was all. I have no plans of buying one. I would buy the Panasonic first, or even the Tiffen monitor. Thanks for the info Mitch.
  19. Anyone used this monitor? Check it out at astro You will need to click on the monitor on the right and then scroll down and click on DM-3005. It's a 6 inch SD/HD monitor. I guess it was at NAB, but I don't remember hearing anything about it. I'm just curious what the price is and also if anyone has any personal experience with it.
  20. I had a great time as well. Thanks Colin and Anthony! It was nice to see everyone and to meet so many people as well. I'm looking forward to Cinegear.
  21. Call Kyle Young at Tiffen and ask. The # there is 310-645-4568 x17.
  22. So I went to the site to check out the design, and I noticed something that seems very strange to me. When you click on the monitor a picture of the monitor and bracket come up and it says, "Ted Churchill monitor bracket allows quick and easy switch from high to low mode. It is mountable in any position." Am I the only one that finds that weird? Maybe "Ted Churchill monitor bracket" is some standard lingo that I've never heard before. If it is please correct me, but if not, what the hell is up with that? Somebody enlighten me here..... Oh, and there also selling a "Holway bracket". Are they using these names in a legitimate manner?
  23. Larry, Yes, it would be great if you posted a picture. I use the "springy thingy", and it can be frustrating at times. It does the job, but I've always wished I had something better. I'm looking forward to seeing your solution. Thanks.
  24. Lots of good info there Larry. Thanks. "I modified the post clamp in the arm to stay in a fixed position" How'd you do this? I've been considering doing this to my arm, or at least having the option of doing it, but I haven't really looked into it too much. It would be great to hear the details of how you did this. Thanks.
  25. Here's a site with a few pictures of a friend of mine's ATV. I've never hardmounted steadicam off of it (only done handheld) but it's been designed so that you can mount just about anywhere. I'm sure there are many other ATV's like it around. http://www.extremestunt.com/equip.html Hope this helps.
