  1. I'm out of town too. Bummer! Great work on The Road, Dan! And great work on the BFD Jim! Sorry I'll miss you guys, but I'll have a pint or two in your honor!
  2. I thought the correct way was groin and forehead, but whatever works for you....
  3. Nice work. Oner's are tough. One thought I have is that it appears you set your headroom for the end of the shot and then didn't compensate for it at all. I think it looks odd when you're chopping off his feet and his head is center punched in the frame with tons of head room. I think if it were me I would have tilted down quite a bit.
  4. I heard great stories both about Jeff, and from Jeff. I wish I could have heard more...
  5. Happy belated Dan! Hope you had a good one.
  6. So I guess nothing is different on your birthday than any other day! Happy B-Day!
  7. It's so much easier now than it was a few years ago with F900's or Varicams since everyone has an LCD monitor now in video village as opposed to a CRT. It's hard to flip a 27 inch CRT.
  8. Happy belated B-Day Alec! Yager shots on me next time I see you!
  9. That's a bummer Hugh. Did you ask who the operator in question was? I've had this same type of experience in the past and I'm often shocked that when I ask who the operator is, they tell me! A simple phone call and explanation to the operator to explain the situation may help both of you avoid this happening in the future. Also, I think a call to the DP is in order.
  10. If you're really considering doing that, then just get some apple boxes and screw them down and then screw your hard mount to them. I've done that in the back of an ATV before. Then just screw down an apple to sit on and you're set. This type of setup would work better for low mode than high of course.
  11. David Mullen just posted some pics from a movie he's working on at the moment on cinematography.com and there is one showing a speedrail rig they built for ice. Try this link. I think you'll be able to see the thread. Looks like it could work with steadicam with some slight mods.
  12. Here's the thing....every other rental house will rent a clip-on with super speeds, so either people will just go to another rental house and Birns will lose the entire rental, or they'll just rent a clip-on from another house and use it with Birns' lenses. Either way, Birns isn't helping themselves, or us as operators. The first time this happened to me the assistants had ordered the clip-on, but instead Birns just sent out another studio mattebox without telling anyone, and the assistants didn't know until it was too late. This was an all steadicam all day type of day, including running shots and long one'rs. I was pretty unhappy and it left a bad taste in my mouth. If you're not going to give us the gear we need, at least let us know so we can make other arrangements. I don't think that's too much to ask.
  13. Is there a clip-on that is universal? I don't want to own one for each different set of lenses. I don't really want to own one at all, but if there is one that works with all of the major lens sets then I might consider it.
  14. So lately a lot of my jobs have been using the same rental house. This particular rental house has screwed me on multiple occasions by not sending out a clip-on mattebox with the package. It turns out that they refuse to rent a clip-on on the same job they rent there super speeds. They claim that someone damaged their lenses with a clip-on in the past. This is getting really old because now I have to be a pain to production about it and then they have to rent a clip-on from another rental house. I doubt there is anything I can do, but does anyone have any suggestions?
  15. Hey Steven. I have one I'd be willing to part with. It never got much use, so it's basically brand new. Bought it from Whitehouse AV years and years ago. Give me a ring @ 310-562-5652.
  16. So is this a 35mm/5D show? Or were they just testing?
  17. Speaking of too stripped down...mine is JUST my reel. But in my defense, it's not finished yet. The low-res version loads immediately for speed purposes, and there is a high-res version if you want a larger and less compressed version. bradgrimmett.com
  18. David Hable is the man! I managed to fry my Modulus twice in about a two week span and he had it back, fixed, and BETTER than new faster than I thought was possible on both occasions. He even fixed my bad cable which was the culprit! I can't recommend him enough.
  19. I'll clonk Jens on the head, steal the monitor, and deliver it for 3.9k. How's that for undercutting?
  20. I'll probably be a little late...I don't like to start drinking before 7AM.
  21. Xiao, You've been open and honest about what you need and what you're willing to provide in exchange. It's not ideal for a lot of people, but it will be a doable deal for someone who wants to shoot something on his/her own. The fact that you've hung around to respond to questions and challenges says something about you. I hope you find someone and that you are BOTH happy with what you get. Good luck.
