  1. As the operator if you arent paid then you own the copyright to the image.

I'm not an attorney, but I'm not sure that's always the case. I believe it depends on the laws in the state you're in as well as whether you did steadicam or just conventional operating.

Are you positive that this is the case in CA Jess?

  2. I'm quite interested in the concept of flying the Arri dovetail plate with this camera. That was the camera can have its 19mm bars and bridge plate just as it pleases. When we go onto Steadicam all we do is slide off the head and slide it onto Steadicam.

The faster I can have these swaps (Head to Steadicam) the less I am used as a human tripod.

We had it for testing on a show the other day, and I was thinking the exact same thing about the Arri base plate. Also, in the picture above the camera seems to be completely stripped. There can very easily be 3 or four more pieces added to the body even before you add the assistants accessories. I'm not too worried about having to add weight to it. The body itself is shockingly heavy as well.

  3. I've been burned every single time I've worked deferred. The first time the movie actually made money and I had a contract signed that stating that I got 5 gross points on the back end. When I saw the movie on sale at Best Buy I promptly called the producer. Shockingly, his number was disconnected and no one who worked on the movie ever heard from him again. But at least I learned my lesson, and now I'll do a favor for a friend, but I'd never do a deferred job unless I was just considering it a freebie.

  4. I used to have some back problems related to a snowboarding accident that happened years ago, but since I started steadicam 11 years ago I've had much less pain and stiffness. I have experienced issues related to handheld though, which is much harder on the body in my opinion.

  5. So it looks like I'll be flying the 7D next week. I'm getting a prep day, which is great, but I'm (sadly) fairly clueless about these cameras. I've read a fair amount here that should be helpful, but I'm hoping to get any other tips that will help me not look like a complete idiot.

    Thoughts?

  6. Thanks for the good info and pictures guys.

I'm not sure which rig it is at this point. Someone knows, but I haven't heard yet. We're possibly testing a new rig from Germany as well. I guess I'll find out all the details on Monday.

BJ, I'm still on that movie right now but the days have been switched around a bit and I happen to have Mon. and Tues. off.

  7. I'm a 3D virgin, but I'm gonna pop my cherry next week on a test shoot with an SI2K/Element Technica rig. I'll prep on Monday and shoot on Tuesday. Is there any pre-prep I should do in the meantime? Anything to look out for or anything I need to know? I've yet to see the rig, but from what I understand it's quite reasonable weight wise, although I'm guessing it will have a pretty high profile and may be a bit unwieldy. It's a beam splitter rig and not side by side.

Any thoughts about this rig in particular or 3D in general would be appreciated. And don't worry, I'll have a healthy supply of Lisigav on the day and reservations at Jumbos Tues. night.

  8. Since we're talking about shoes, lets talk laces. I've been wearing Merrells for a long time and my favorite has been the Merrell Chameleon Stretch partially because of the lacing system. I have finicky feet and I like to adjust the tightness of my shoes many times throughout the day depending if I'm sitting on a dolly, doing steadicam, relaxing at lunch, etc, so these are perfect for me. I recently bought the Merrell Pivot to try out something new. So far so good.

Is anyone else wearing shoes with these types of laces? I know Merrell isn't the only brand with laces like that.
