Not really the optimum solution since you have to give up so many pixels to get it to work
And apparently you need to shoot the original with way too much headroom so that the shot can be cropped. Not exactly ideal.

No iphone for me.
Ron, you have to admit, that mule was REALLY friendly! BJ seemed to like it....

After a back injury last year, I'm a huge fan of acupuncture. I literally couldn't walk upright and after two sessions of acupuncture I felt brand new. If it were me I'd go to acupuncture the next two days and do the job.

Blimey! If that's steadicam, then bravo! Does anyone have any confirmation that it is? I must say it looks like a stabilized head on an arm/crane, mounted on a vehicle to me. Some of the accelerations at the beginning scream vehicle shot. And the lockoffs just aren't believable, unless they used image stabilization like Charles said.
In any case, it was a nice idea nicely done.

I will do anything to stay out of don juan. I suck at it.

Ditto!
If I HAD to do the shot on foot I would definitely have been walking backwards. But I think the idea of stepping onto a doorway sounds like the best plan. The shot would have been better and any amount of takes becomes doable.

I think it's time to revive this image from the past, just to prove the existence of the magic salve:
Baldwin looks really excited and Papert looks horrified....standard get together!

Anyone out there using cleats for wet grass or other similar situations? What kind?
~Jess
I did a music video a few years ago and was surprised by the fact that they were intentionally creating mud on a football field where we were shooting. Sure enough they expected running shots and everything else through the mud. I wasn't informed about this ahead of time and obviously hadn't planned on this, but managed until lunch when I sent a PA to the sporting goods store to buy me a pair of football cleats. It was like night and day, and I felt much more stable and much safer. I don't think it matters what kind of cleats you have, you just need some kind of shoe with spikes. There was a slight learning curve, as there is no give at all when stopping, it's more abrupt, but it's much better than sliding two feet every time you attempt to come to a stop.
I've yet to have a fall, and don't plan on doing it anytime soon, although I've come close on quite a few occasions!

For starters, tell them not to throw rice. It's bad for birds....
But yeah, just cover your arm if you're worried about it. Personally, I wouldn't be.

Thanks for the help and offers guys. It's taken care of now.

"No rain, no rainbows."
I laugh every time I see that spot and hear that line.

I have a feature coming up on the Red. The DP owns the package but doesn't own a downconverter, so I'm trying to find one. We start shooting on the 19th. Please contact me if you have one for rent.
Thanks.

Congrats on the expansion to other cities. Should I assume that this is because it did well in LA and NY? I sure enjoyed it!

Thanks for the tips guys. I found a few places like this. Are these the type of cheapies that don't work well? I don't mind paying for quality, but a good deal is always nice.

Where is the best place to buy the infolithium batteries for the HU3? I found a place online that is selling them for $15, which seems way too cheap, so I thought I'd ask here first.
Thanks.

We were the top-grossing film at the Sunset 5 this weekend so the film has been held over for an additional week! It runs now through the 26th. I'l be there again on Saturday night (21st) for the 7 p.m. screening, Q&A to follow.
Good news!

Baldwin can't make it....he's not allowed within 1000ft of playgrounds or parks.
I have relatives in town, so I'm not sure whether I'll make it either.

What happened to the pink hair Ron? And where's your lisigav? I thought you kept it mounted on the rig at all times?

Motorcycles my friend.
Best therapy I've found.
Except when you fall off!

A "for rent" section would be nice.

Jon Myers has one I think, but he doesn't check the forum very often. Give him a ring if you're still in need.

Thankfully BJ is out of town....damn troublemaker! He'd never clear the extensive security screening.

Here's a pic from this night of Alec, Geoff, and Erwin.

I had a small problem about two years ago with my HU3. This was an all steadicam day, so I couldn't afford to be without my HU. I called Preston and sent transpo to the shop. Preston sent out a loaner unit for me while they fixed mine and I picked it up the next day. No down time at all.
