  1. Alec,

I ended up with my very own Arriflex 435 ES... A guy was selling and I put in a ridiculously low bid and he said yes...

It's actually a shame what is happening with Film cameras right now, but what can you do... they are currently one step removed from scrap... out of favor but not yet old enough to generate a demand for preservation... I guess that will take another decade or two...

Once you buy they keep sending you similar auctions... I just got an offer for an Arricam... 95% off sticker... I should stay away from e-bay...

  2. Ha... so it comes full circle...

I was actually looking for 435 parts when google directed me to this post.

Originally I was looking for a practice weight/ demonstration weight. As it turned out, getting a mock up or weight plate made was almost as expensive as getting the real thing. Ended up with my very own Arriflex 435 ES... I would have never imagined. A guy was selling, I put in a ridiculously low bid and he said yes!

    Funny how life works...

  3. I got mine about 2 months ago. Works as advertised. Literally 2 days after I received it from ARRI I had to use it for an Iris pull on a feature I was working on. So it already paid for it's self. 1st AC and DP were very happy... there we go. If you know how to work an Alexa or the WCU-4... it's exactly the same.

Not much on the net about any of the ARRI units... was quite frustrating when I tried to do research before I bought mine...

Here is the manual for download:

  5. I have two different pads one by CCC that I use mainly with Film Cameras like the Panavision Cameras as shown in the picture , as it is high, it fits perfectly in between the Body and the Mag and another one that has served me very well in the past. It's somewhat similar in appearance to the Modular 51 but with different filling and what's more important, stickier surface. )

I hated the fact that with the modular 51, if you had any trapezius muscles at all, the Camera would slide off your shoulder...) It used to be sold by the Camera House in LA.

Rolled up and taped Duvetyne does the job as well in a bind. It really depends on the Camera used that's why I carry a couple... and they are dirt cheap and save your shoulder and or collar bone... especially if you get constantly bumped by the Stuntmen... the regular pad won't do it!

With the Panavision Gold and a 1000 footer, "no-pad" was not really an option.

  6. Hi Lars,

When you use the "Reply to this topic" window go to "More Reply Options" at the lower right corner.

A larger window will open and at the bottom it will say: "Attach Files" There you can add pictures, videos, etc.

It's not available in all topics or threads and make sure to check your attached Files allowance (you might be out of available space).

If you have more trouble let me know.

    Sincerely,

    Erwin

  7. There are 3 different versions of the EFP Manual "Booklet", but basically they all give you more or less the same information.

The one shown in the link is the one that came including the EFP VHS Tape so that you could double check with the manual while watching the video... (btw. that was a quick search on Google, took me but 30 seconds).

I have all three, I gave Peter Abraham most of my archived manuals for them to get scanned. They should be available from Tiffen... or are they available on the Steadicam guild website? David?

    Fly safe,

    Erwin

  8. When I still had my original DSD Vest I had trouble finding a case that would actually fit my vest.

I tried the Pelican 0350, but that turned out to be to much case for it... I ended up designing and making a custom ATA case.

( http://www.steadicamforum.com/index.php?showtopic=10318 , Post #13, it's the case number 1) It also housed the Arm, which made it a little unwieldily ... http://www.steadicamforum.com/index.php?showtopic=228&page=3 (Post #41)

Later when Walter upgraded my vest to the Klassen classic and I was able to take the front off separately, it actually fit into a standard 1650... but it was basically stripped to it's barebones...

Now i am back again to a custom ATA case that also doubles as my on set ready case.

Even the Action packer is way to large and you end up putting all kinds of crap into it until it's in my opinion unmanageable.

There is just no case off the shelf available that protects the vest but is at the same time small enough to not be considered "Gynormas"...

If you ever find one I am sure they will erect a monument in your name... or maybe not.

    Fly Safe!

    Erwin
