  3. Isn't that interesting. I remember an article dating back about 20-odd years ago an American Cinematographer journalist at the CP stand at Cine Gear asking Ed DiGiulio if Steadicam works underwater. 4. Hi Leigh. Just to answer your question, Cinema Products made arms with different coloured springs to identify the various weight ranges. And yes, the springs were painted in the different colours. The colours and appproximate weight ranges were: Red 18-38 lbs Green 20-40 lbs Blue 25-45 lbs Black 30-51 lbs Gold 36-58 lbs All the best, Hugo Langer Rig Engineering Australia Pty Ltd www.steadyrig.com admin@steadyrig.com tel: +61 3 9898 6298 fax: +61 3 9898 6218

    Beyond Repair

Thought we might just share this one with you all and we won't be servicing or rebuilding this one. Hugo Rig Engineering
  9. Hi Rob, Hugo here from Rig Engineering. To answer the question about the arm, when Dale asked us to work on this project for him we had a look to see what older second hand arms we had in stock at the time and the arm we decided on was, I think, either ex Kevin Hewitt or Chip Monks. It is a model 2 with a non original bi directional elbow. Being a prototype we experimented with many different water friendly bearings, some of the results we experienced resulted in an arm that was so riddled with friction that it became semi rigid. A complete disaster. But ultimately we found what we were looking for. In relation to its behaviour, dynamic balance and the monitor, Dale is the one with the hands on experience.
  10. In the past, some of the guys here have asked us to repair their pin blocks when the return spring has broken. We can send you a changeover pin block as we nearly always have one or two re-conditioned ones on the shelf. So, in the future, depending on our stocks, we're happy to immediately ship out a pin block to anyone in need. But don't be concerned about continuing to fly with a broken return spring. It's perfectly safe but may feel a bit weird. Best of luck, Hugo Rig Engineering Australia
  11. We also have received numerous scam emails and on this occasion we decided to experiment. Note: we asked for their phone number more than once but it was never forthcoming. Obviously, someone is receiving hundreds of incoming emails and just pressing a button to send out a form letter response. Judging by the sentence structure, I suspect they are somewhere in Asia. Also, he requested that you confirm if the description of your arm is still the same as indicated in your ad., or, you should indicate any depreciation of any sort if any. Lastly do give us an update of the present performance condition of the arm so that we can able to ascertain the present condition of the arm and consequently proceed with transaction while he conclude with his company regarding to the purchase of your arm. > We will proceed with transaction as soon as all the above requirements are met. Kind regards, Rig Engineering Australia 5) To us: Hello , Thanks for your mail with pics and update, my client was highly impressed and delighted with the present body condition of your Arm. Also, thanks for your patience, i have been waiting for my customer to finalize with his company as earlier stated in my previous mail, however, i'm happy to tell you that we have concluded with our client and he has instructed that we carry on with the transaction, and also inform you that payment will get to you in a cashier check of ($ 11,565 ) which is a refund payment of a cancelled order earlier made by my client(which explains why you were required to provide pictures showing the various views of your Arm so as to avoid earlier made mistakes). Due to company policy this check has to be made out in this amount to you, because company policy only allows a refund payment on one cashier check,so you are required to deduct cost of your Arm ($ 6,700) when payment gets to you and make a refund of the balance of($ 4,865) to my customer via western union money transfer or money gram transfer for him to be able to offset shipping charges. After payment has reached you and balance sent back to him,our agent will come for the pick up and drive to our company's shipping agent to be shipped to my customer, while title papers and other necessary documents will be sent by you via fedex courier to my customer. Please Confirm this and provide name, address and current phone number, for check payment to be delivered to you via courier service. Thanks and have pleasant day. Management Eric > >
  12. Hi, Matt Thanks for the questions. As this is an auction it is normal practice not to disclose the reserve, but it is a very reasonable reserve for this item. ;) Regarding the sk2, this arm will not fit the sk2. You would need to change the socket block to a stardard socket block. Thanks, Dean.
  13. Just a quick mention for future operators starting out who are looking for their first arm. From time to time, amongst the many recent model arms we receive, we receive earlier model CP arms which are in the lower price bracket. These may be of value to aspiring operators new to the industry. For those of you who have a small startup buget you may find these arms to be a good starting point. Occassionally we will be putting these on ebay for auction. Currently we have this arm up for auction at ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...3872288079&rd=1 This may be a great opportunity for you to own a reasonable priced arm. 14. Hello all, Dean and Hugo from Rig Engineering here. We have been following this post and felt that it may be of benefit to some operators if we chime in and share our experiences. Earlier this year we conducted extensive testing and research into rod ends after we had some rod ends fail short of their specs. Naturally we immediately contacted all our customers and shipped alternative pin blocks. As a result of our research we found three manufacturers in the market place that make high capacity rod ends suited to our applications. Given that so much heartache could come about as a result of a failure we felt that it is too critical a component to not share our information with the marketplace... If anyone is considering doing their own modifications we recommend that you don't use anything less than the following: RBC HEIM HFX5G Aurora AW5T Tuthill TSFX5 As a result of our tests we found that the upper rod end is subjected to an extension radial load and the lower rod end is mostly subjected to a compression radial load. Surprisingly, the sheer load was minimal. With our arm loaded up to 63 lbs we measured a huge force of 1,029lbs on the rod ends. This extreme force is due to the leverage factor subjected on the components. Most other components are not subjected to the same such stress because the force is distributed through the springs, cables and pulleys. We would like to point out that the more you extend the rod ends and expose the shank the more leverage and sheer force they are exposed to so it is advisable to have them wound in as close as practicable. With this in mind, Ron Baldwin's earlier suggestion is good advise. We would like to highly recommend that anyone considering modifying their arm with a new component to firstly, consult an engineer before commencing, and secondly, make two of them and conduct a destruction test on one. It may be an expensive excercise but much cheaper than the alternative. We hope that this post has been of value to you. Rig Engineering Australia Pty Ltd www.steadyrig.com admin@steadyrig.com
