  1. Hi Charles, The D20 has an ARRICAM-like Low-mode plate. Charles, too bad your web-page with the pictures of your setup with Genesis is gone. Cheers, K.
  2. Hi Mikko, It's not perfectly right When I worked for Sony some 16 years ago we had Analog HD cameras and VCRs. I'm quiet sure they are still working somewhere, big impressive machines. I will go thru my archives to come up with pictures if you want. And it's written on the second line of Wikipedia's HD page : Wiki HDTV K.
  3. Hi Jens, One Topic for the same Gear instead of Three may be enough ? One Two Three ... Just Bump your Topic by posting a new message in it to keep people informed instead of creating several clones of your already existing Topic. Thanks, K.
  4. Segway is recalling about 23,500 scooters due to a software problem. More here : http://money.cnn.com/2006/09/14/news/compa...dex.htm?cnn=yes K.
  5. Hi, Yes it's his reel, it's me who uploaded it on Google Video to show to a friend. I met James Muro three weeks ago and we talked about a lot of things, it was really great. In the middle of all we talked, we talked about his reel, it's his wife who did the editing, nice work, I like it a lot. And the music from The Last of the Mohicans is perfect to do the job. He told me that a more complete version will be made soon. Meeting James Muro was a blast, he showed me his equipment and some secrets, he is really a great guy. K.
  6. Gus & Andrey, You don't need the special bracket for the Low-mode when using the 416, the standard handle is flat on top, big and sturdy with threaded holes, that's what I used to put my Antlers ( have a look here) Bob, Yes, without the onboard battery, powered by the 24V version of the Flyer it would really be a nice setup. (by the way your BBCode tags are broken for the quote in your post) And now for something new here is the fresh Aaton Super 16 camera, the one that was until today called Aaton XTRProd2 (see my first message) The camera is revealed today and it's name is "Xterà" Here's a pic : http://www.aaton.com/ I'm going to see this new camera tomorrow on Aaton's booth at IBC, Cheers, K.
  7. Hi, I will be there, don't know yet for how long but I definitively will do my best to stay at least two days. Last year I could stay for one day only as I was in the middle of a Movie and it was way too short. So the Week-End would be a minimum, that's September 9 & 10 It will also depend on where I am going to stay... K.
  8. Not a lot of time here to do a nice and long reply so I will just give you the name of the operator, it's Roger Tooley, I met him on the shooting of that movie as they did a sequence right next to where I used to live at that time, here is his IMDb : http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0867501/ Just a quick note to say that when I met him it was the first time I saw a DSD harness and Antlers in real, I'm not 100% sure but I think he was the first to own a DSD vest in Europe, he offered to let me try his vest but as he his goofy and me regular we didn't have the time to make the switch between takes, I hope I will meet him again as he seemed to be a very nice guy Cheers, K. (wanted to apologize if I didn't reply to many questions in other Topics, a lot of life stuff to handle...)
  9. Hi Mark, Don't know nothing about your Bantam Dolly and found nothing on the Internet but it's Bazookas and not Barracudas. A set of Bazookas looks like that : And the "flat plate" is probably a Mittchell Base and it looks like that : it's the version with levelers that I recommend to ask for, without the levelers it can be trickier to get the whole set up to behave nicely. And on top of that in order to mount your arm you will need a Vehicle Mount (aka "Garfield") from Steadicam, GPI, Jerry Hill, Walter Klassen, MK-V or ... For example mine from Jerry Hill looks like that : But your arm must have the standard socket block and I don't know if it is so as you didn't told us what is your equipment... I hope it helps and I strongly suggest that you prepare everything with care. In our job most surprises are not good surprises... K.
  10. Hi Rob, Sorry !, I'll come back tomorrow to resize my pictures, been ultra busy lately, looks like everything in my life decided to go crazy... I seriously think someone should do a movie depicting it. Daniel, nice setup. Thanks Erwin, I was waiting for super interesting pictures from you. Chris, Nice Low-Mode, the Clipper and G-50 ?, interesting. Funny Antlers Guido ! Keep them coming ! K.
  11. Yes it's this : I don't know for which Stage it is intended (looks like it's for the PRO) and I don't know the price... I know that Chrosziel did the same kind of plates to be used with a Master series Sled as it would fit directly on the stage. Arriflex are also making a nice thin plate but you still have to clamp your dovetail under. K.
  12. Interesting setup Eric, yes Brad I remember the discussion about the GII and that picture with the Panaflasher. now this one from a few days ago, very Basic. (edit : Picture will be back soon, smaller ! ) Keep em coming ! K.
  13. Hi all, I will start this topic with a weird setup I had on the shooting with the new 416 : (edit : Picture will be back soon, smaller ! ) (edit : Picture will be back soon, smaller ! ) They needed a wide angle static shot inside the Sorbonne, the Grips where gone on the next location building a crane on tracks with remote head for a complex shot on the beautiful Alexander III bridge that is across the Seine river near the Champs-Elysées, so without the proper equipment I had to do like that... It did the trick and the DoP found the set-up great. Now your turn ! K.
  14. Hi Thomas, Sorry, I was busy so couldn't respond earlier. I can't speak for ARRI but I think they are going to continue the SR3, even if I have read the contrary somewhere on a website for DoPs. I will contact the Product Manager at ARRI and will let you know, for the moment I must go to sleep, but I'll come back with more stuff about that camera and the new Ultra 16 lenses that we where also the first to use... By the way, the Camera on this picture : It's not the 416 but the 235... K. Edit : Some more Pictures of the that nice Camera :
  15. Hi Ron, If you download this : AC Tools Pricelist.pdf on page 34 you will find this : and on page 35 this : I tried the first prototype of that stage and it was already very good, in the mean time Christian Betz did some adjustments (I told him, like everybody else, that the side to side trim was reversed from common use and he corrected that on the final product) and a lot of operators here in Europe are using that stage and they say a lot of good things about it, I still own Christian Betz's previous stage model (designed by Ted Churchill) on my back-up Sled and even if it's a bit obsolete now it's still a very robust piece of equipment. I also own the Monitor bracket still on my back-up Sled, it's ok, very modular, even too much, but don't put your monitor too far out on that curve or it will wobble. Cheers, K.
  16. Here it is : It's from Chosziel's Video/Film Price List that you can download here : AC Pricelist.pdf Cheers, K.
  17. Hi Everyone, Sorry I didn't came here earlier, I just wanted to finish the shooting before posting here. First here's a link : First 416 Production I'll be back and will talk more about the camera. And yes my Antlers are the real one from Brant Fagan. Be right back, K.
  18. Hi Brad, Nice Video, it's "fresh" So no comments or info about Destiny's Child's Emotions or Massive Attack's Safe from Harm ? K.
  19. Hi Erwin, If your Sled is in Dynamic Balance and you change a Lens or a filter or do anything on the camera and then you do the usual static balance, even with moving the gimbal up or down the center post, then you will still be in Dynamic Balance. The only way to loose Dynamic Balance is to move a component below the gimbal, in other terms : move, add or subtract weight on the lower part of the Sled. In the morning I do an absolutely perfect Dynamic Balance and after if something is changed on the camera it's never a problem, do your static balance, do your drop time, and you will see that you are still in Dynamic Balance, check it by yourself. I just have to make sure that nothing will move down there during the day, like the angle of my PRO Monitor, that's one of the good things in the Ultra's design : as it was built with Dynamic Balance in mind, the Monitor turns around it's Center of Gravity, with any other sled or monitor combination if you change your monitor viewing angle you will instantly be out of Dynamic Balance. So the extra minutes taken to do the Dynamic Balance in the morning are even more worthing it Thanks to Jerry Holway who did such an excellent work in learning us the art of Dynamic Balance. In fact after I finally understood how to get in Dynamic Balance I discovered that my usual sled setting wasn't very far from it, not perfectly there, but not too far. On the net you can see operators' pictures with sleds so far away from Dynamic Balance it's unbelievable Now the next step is to try to get the extra time to do the Dynamic Balance when you go to Low Mode... And one other thing : in order to make sure that your sled is in perfect Dynamic Balance you have to spin test it fast, really fast, not a gentle slow Pan, it's just like testing the Dynamic Balance of an Helicopter's Rotor in the Factory. A few days ago I was at a Camera Rental Facility helping a friend to do his prep, he wasn't able to Dynamic Balance my Flyer, in something like 3 minutes I showed him how to do it and did a perfect Dynamic Balance, the camera on the Sled was a small HDV thing in a cage with my Antlers on top of it. I did an extremely fast spin test and the center post was turning perfectly vertical (and with the Antlers above turning super fast and super flat it looks even cooler), a guy there was watching us, he was also trying to Dynamic Balance a Clipper he had to work with on a shooting the day after, he was actually unsuccessfully trying for hours... (ok, I helped him also) It is just a matter of knowing what your are doing and then you will get what you want a lot more easily A Dynamic Balance Primer Cheers, K.
  20. Hello Chris, how do you do ! It's from the original Steadicam Patent (I downloaded and examined hundreds of patents, if you are looking for one just ask, I have them converted in a nice PDF format) I had to clean it using a Wacom tablet and Painter Almost impossible to find informations on the net about your Avatar's author : Otto Maximilian Umbehr Kareem "Searching Machine and Clickable link Master" La Vaullée Edit : changed the link to the Steadicam Patent's image to a better one
  21. (sp?) stands for spelling, wasn't sure about the spelling of the word "circling" as my computer's typing correction system doesn't recognize the word... ;)
  22. Thanks, this one finally works, Nice Job, Job ;) Too bad it has this "video look" even with the Pro35 without the "circlings" (sp?) and the rooftop sequence it would be very dolly-ish (nice ladies anyway...)
  23. Job, your file won't open in Quicktime, or in VLC, or in MPlayer or in Windows Media Player for Mac... <_<
  24. One of my favourites, Massive Attack again, title : Safe from Harm The low mode work in the stairs is fantastic Afton, I will send you the Michel Gondry's video, I have to find the DVD in my collection first, then ripp it and encode it in the format and resolution of your choice. Tell me what are your settings in Quicktime Pro (codec, resolution, bitrate, etc) so even others will be able to send you files matching the quality of the files you already have. To see Björk's video use this link : http://www.bjork.com/videogallery/watch.ph...eo=8;size=large Better resolution, but I'm not a fan of this video, too messy shooting, a bit like the Spice Girls' one.
