Dear Operators. I would love to hear some advice on a shot I'm doing this weekend. In this shot we see the subject head to toe, then start walking in a circle around them. This circle will be ramped up in post, then cross dissolved into the subject standing in exactly the same position in another location. The idea, which I'm sure you all get, is to show transformation. What seems crtical about the shot is keeping the subject in the center of frame, with the same head room throughout. I already put a call into Jamie Silverstein, who told me to try the shot walking backwards. Cheers Jamie. If anyone else has any ideas I'd love to hear them. Thanks a lot, Toby.

Thanks for the low down, though it sounds like bad news: no dynamic balance for the EFP. I will nevertheless follow your intructions and at least have the rig static balanced with something like a 3 second drop time. Cheers.

I've been sneaking some posts in on the General site, but I know this question is pure Newbie... I've read Holway's illuminating paper on dynamic balance, and have a basic understanding of what is involved. It seems essential to be able to adjust the distance of the battery and monitor from the post, but I have an EFP sled, and it doesn't seem to be very adjustable down there. Am I missing something? Appreciated, TB.

Has anybody used or heard anything about Transvideo's new Titan microwave video transmission system? I'm currently using a Modulus 3000 with a Hermes receiver, but I'm having issues with wireless audio. Cheers TB. P.S. I searched for any previous postings on this subject, but found none. The forum needs an adjudicator, perhaps. I am as green as green can be, and yesterday I pinched my peroneal nerve (my thigh is all tingly!) flying a light load on an EFP. Is this a newbie issue, or can I take it up with the big boys? Humbly yours, Toby.

Hi Operators I'm in the market for a new docking and balancing bracket. I'm working on building a specialty purpose rig, and one of the things I need to be able to do with it is put it on the balancing bracket and operate it from there, kind of like a tripod. So far I've looked at the Hill Docking Bracket and the Baer-Bel version of the same. If anyone has any advice for me in this I would appreciate it. Cheers, Toby.

Dear Operators Does anybody know the pin assignments for the 'Monitor Out' 6pin Hiroshi on the EFP sled? I've been told that the Monitor Out supplies both video and 12V power, so I got a custom cable made to go from the EFP to a Modulus 3000 video transmitter. The cable doesn't seem to work, and I am guessing the guy who made it didn't have the pin configuration right. If anyone can shine a light I would be most grateful. Cheers, Toby.

Dear Operators I have a second hand EFP rig, and I am having trouble with the post. After dismantling the post I have found that the plastic sleeve inside is sticking, making it hard to raise or lower the sled. I note that the plastic sleeve has two screw holes in it, as does the post, but the exterior clamp has only one hole. Is the extra hole in the post and sleeve just a back up? Could this be part of the problem? How can I make the post easier to adjust? Thanks so much, Toby.

Hi you all. As a complete novice operator I have about a million questions. Rather than lump them on you in a heap, I have cunningly decided slip them to you one by one. I am going to be using a Steadicam for a specific function. It is an EFP rig that I'll be flying both indoors and out, shooting live action. My friend has generously lent me the rig, which is not exactly new, and is going to need a bit of restoration work. We are working on a pilot show, and if we get a series my plan is to put together my own rig. In the meantime I am happily working with what I have. Unsurprisingly, I have a limited budget for repairs, and so here, finally, is the question: what should I spend money on at this early stage in the game? 1) A new vest. I have a very slight build, and I am sure the EFP vest is not fitting me as well as it could. 2) A workshop. I am a total rookie, but the friend who is lending me the EFP is a great cameraman, and at least a competent Steadicam operator. I could get him to show me around for free, or I could invest $2g and a week of time to do the SOA course in PA. Bear in mind that we will be using the rig for a very specific function (ENG style live action) and that at the present my time is spread very thin. 3) A greenscreen monitor. The current monitor is not very bright. We're going to be shooting outside a lot. I can get a hood for the existing monitor, but maybe I need something stiffer. 4) Perhaps something entirely different that I haven't even thought of. Your advice is valuable to me, and I appreciate this great resource. Thank you, Toby Barraud.
