  1. Own a piece of history for the price of shipping. Come on, can't beat that. Rumour has it that this battery charger was glanced at by Martin Scorcese himself and that it acted as a door stop (in which capacity it still functions perfectly) during the making of The Never Ending Story 2 (how there can be a sequel to a film of that name is beyond me, but I digress). Get it while it's hot folks. This will go fast.

  2. Wan,

Nice stuff for one rehearsal and not really knowing exactly what's gonna happen. That's a tough one for sure not to mention that you're also dealing with being on a stage and everything else that's going on. Cool that they played you're shot for the whole piece! I haven't done a lot of concert stuff but the things that i have done i recall thinking halfway through "Well, I've already done every move i can think of" and then realizing that it's not about the shot as much as it is about the concert and then just doing the moves over and over again. Odd but at some point there're only so many things to be done.

    Good stuff.

  3. Pictures to come later today hopefully. Most of this is a make me an offer or just pay shipping. If there's no price, it's obviously priceless, so just let me know.

    1. PRO Vest Padding Large Size (I can send dimensions if you need) from PRO Vest. 1 Piece cutout Foam. $40 plus shipping

    2. 5 3A Battery Shells. They have batts inside but I;m sure they are dead and will dispose of before shipping. Comes with two charging cables.

    3. Original CP charger for Model 1/3 Batts. A classic for the op who has everything!!

    4. Fore Aft Top from original Model 1 with half of a helicopter mount AND half of a Fore Aft top stage from a Model 2 (front half destroyed in accident). Great for that project you've been thinking of.

    5. UHF Single Channel Transmitter. Channel 16. Worked great years ago. Not sure what's up.

    6. Two Piece Chinese Made Microwave Transmitter. Used this twice and it worked great. 4 Channels as I recall. Not sure why i didn't use it again. Might have been the rashes (I kid).

    7. Original JAR Optics for an Arri Cam (not even really sure). Own a piece of history before it goes to the recyclers.

    8. DeRose (I think) voltage doubler. 12-24volts. No Model 1 owner should be without one of these. Don't delay. This will indeed go fast.

  4. Scottie,

Some nice moves in there. And how awesome to have Garret go through it with you, and with him doing his own little mirror video gag to boot. Classic. That's what i always loved about this community. Stuff like Garrett himself being willing to sit with you and go over shots in order to make you a better op. I can't imagine how much fun that was. Good on ya for reaching out to him and I'm not surprised at all that he offered his thoughts. You're on your way.

  5. Hey Ian,

Hope your ass has healed. Good stuff. Not much to say about the music video as its so chopped up but how much do you love that there is a teaser for a music video? Also, I'm pretty sure most of us have shot that same video early in our careers. With me it was with FM Rocks back in the day.

I like the short/opening shot. Really well done for one year in and you have a really cool way of controlling the rig in those mini quick pan/adjustments. That's a tough thing to do. Your horizons do need some work and the headroom was tough to judge because I didn't know what was a choose and what not but thought for the most part it worked except at the end as you were heading up to her on the platform (assuming it was a platform). My suspicion is that you re fighting the rig a bit and maybe overpowering the gimbal but hard to tell on that one. Is the rig sitting right on your body (meaning do you feel that you are being thrown/controlled by it as opposed to you controlling it)?

My suggestion in any case is to keep on doing what you are doing. For one year in this isn't bad. I spent a lot of time early on just standing around with the rig on and trying to control it with no hands, but just my body. Once that thing becomes an extension of your body than you just need to guide it a bit more to get it to do what you want to do. I like to think of it as the force (geeky I know but work with what ya got right). You want to have your energy flow through that thing as if it were an extension of you and then you just need to use your hands to coax it the rest of the way.

    Hope that helps. Good stuff.

  6. It will, it will, just keep on walking that line. I used to put slow music on and walk around making up "music videos" in my head. Hours and hours of slow moves stoping to hold lockoffs, pushing in to a closeup of a lamp, that kind of thing. The more time you get in the rig, the less you'll think about these things when you're on set and the more you can concentrate just on operating. Also, for the record, I'm not the only one out there who will admit that i still cut heads off from time to time, so don't beat yourself up too much.

  7. Brian,

    Awesome feedback.

    Caitlyn,

One of the weird things that will happen, and you may not even notice it over time, is that you;ll start to read subtle body language and know what's coming long before it happens. It's weird how that happens, but it does. Also, the more you practice, the less you'll think about the rig and you in it and the more you'll put towards framing the shot so don't be hard on yourself at this point, just keep on shooting and the rest will follow. If most of us who have been around for a bit are any indication, you'll never really be completely happy with your operating anyway.

Good stuff and thanks again for sharing.
