  5. Hi all, Up for sale my old trusty master series sled. Original topstage (not the drop in type) Original SD wiring 12volt only Sled has been upgraded somewhat by ditching the old CP batteries and adding a V-lock plate, also ditched the old green screen and it now has a Tiffen Ultrabrite. Gimbal is good with new bearings a couple of years back. Would make a good starter sled or project. Comes with: Heavy duty rolling case 2x BNC cables 12v lemo - XLR camera cable Long dovetail plate Zalex tally light Whatever else I can find and throw in I will. Not sure what to ask so make an offer, if you are in the UK i have to charge VAT, overseas ok but be aware of the weight (35kgs) for S&H and import fees.
  6. Yup I have one pm me your email and will scan and send.
  7. Hi Charles, is it still available and are you open to offers?
  8. Wow, great stories! I started when I was a BBC staffer in the late nineties, a steadicam op came in to work on a show we were doing, he had an efp which he let me have a go with. I got myself on one of the Optex courses being run by Robin Thwaites, I think master series was a fairly new rig at the time and we had three to practice with. I don't think I realised what I was getting into as I stomped up and down the corridor of Ravensbourne college strapped into the thing complete with a BVP7 betacam on top, my back muscles burned and the sweat came in buckets... Robin said "this is quite a lightweight camera, wait till you put a BL4 on there!" So as I had done the course, and the BBC had spent money sending me for training I was punted out as an op, using a hired in rig whenever the need arose, this led to a glaring realisation that you need constant practice to have any hope.... I really wanted to practice at home, lacking any form of suitable rig I got a broom handle and attached a dumbell weight to both ends to practice 'gimble control'....ahh After saving up some pennies I bought a Glidecam V8... which was slightly better than the dumbell/broomhandle arrangement as I could put a camera on it. I made some mods, added a tiny lcd screen and battery, and started doing student projects in downtime. The V8 was frustrating because the weight range was limited, the vest uncomfortable and the sled would go out of balance if anyone breathed on it, so I set about saving for a better rig. It was on this very forum that I saw a used model 1 sled and vest for sale by Rich Davies, I bought it, got a model 2 arm from Hugo over in Oz, and away I went! Loved that rig, my first real steadicam, I can't remember the sleds serial number but It was very low, (was it 26?). It had the derose mod for the battery and a wrap grip. Eventually the BBC station I worked for bought a fantastic shiny brand new Ultra, and sent Robin over to train a few more of us, so I eventually sold my model 1 rig. When I went freelance in 2010 I bought a secondhand master series, again did some mods adding a colour screen (chrosziel first, now an ultrabright), ditching the original battery packs in favour of V-locks etc. Still love my master series, great rig for the time, easy setup and can carry just about every camera you can throw at it. :)
  9. I bought some SWITs with a view to replacing my old hytrons, no they don't charge properly on an AB charger, however the SWIT charger is not expensive.
  10. Brilliant work, I had to watch the whole episode too! Anyone know what camera they use?
  11. I have a portabrace one for my marshall monitor and you might as well wrap it in a plastic bag for all the protection it offers, especially with certain directors who have a habit of leaving it under an overflowing gutter.... Some sort of adapted peli case is what I'm thinking of next.
  12. I use both my back and front mount vests (EFP and Klassen), I always take both to a shoot and sometimes swap between shots...! The Klassen is fantastic, rigid, well built and great for endurance operating and solid lock offs. The EFP vest I find is great for tight spaces and running. It is nice to have both. I read Thomas's post with interest re the socket block eye bolt....
  13. My old MS monitor says NTSC on the bottom, works in PAL fine, unless it was adjusted before I bought the rig.
  14. James, not that your answer is welcoming... Sarcasm is not constructive nor polite, I believe Paul (which I don't know) didn't deserve that as a first answer. If you're looking for polite answers you should give first example. If you are not looking for helping out people visiting the forum and asking questions, may I suggest you, simply don't reply. You may be the one looking for fellows ops opinion next time, and I bet, you wouldn't want somebody that tells you to Google it. ;) F I agree with your point Fabrizio, I just thought his "are you aspergers prone" comment slightly out of order....
  15. Thanks Fabrizio - that's really helpful. I'll give them a call. James - do I really need to preface everything I ask with "I am aware that search engines exist but I'd like some human advice"? Are you the school bully type or just slightly Aspergers prone? Jeez, are YOU the school bully type?
  16. You know Rich, I think I did! I bought your vest along with it, managed to get a model 2 arm from Hugo at steadyrig and away I went. Did some shorts and music vids with it, I even got it on a few BBC shows because I was working there at the time. I sold it about three years ago to a French guy at a college and put the money towards a secondhand master. Can't remember the serial no but I think it was quite low. It had all the Derose mods I think too. Hope your well Rich and thanks buddy your rig got me started! Martin
  17. The serial no was on a plate between the monitor and the post, (actually i think it was between the post and the battery slot) looks like its been taken off, I think i have some pix of my old model 1 so i'll post them. I would buy that if I wasn't in the process of buying my Klassen vest, i loved that rig, it was my first proper steadicam after owning a Glidecam V8!
  18. You got to be kidding me oO Here's his comment.... Maybe full sail needs to know what sort of student they have That is quite disgusting, threats like that are a police matter, no matter if they are on an email, a forum, a phone call, to your face, whatever.
  19. Yes I have to say that was the main thing that freaked me out..... There has to be a Darwin award for the stupidest way to off yourself whilst wearing an indian made steadicam.

  21. I have a master elite, it works just fine for me, It can fly all the cameras I use, from dvcam to RED. I still have the original green screen monitor, again working well. It is a solid big rig for someone like me who mainly does TV work, I bought it secondhand and got a pretty good deal because it was like new, the guy had really looked after it. I know in comparison to the more modern rigs out there it is probably getting past its sell by date but it still produces great shots and there is plenty of life left in it yet. I couldn't justify getting a newer rig anyway in such a small market, I maybe do two or three steadicam gigs a month and the rig is rented alongside one of my cameras as a package. Again I agree with Sanjay, Robin Thwaites and the guys at Tiffen here are great to deal with.
  22. Yep, Its a heavy piece of metal indeed. It sounds obvious but make sure it has a video tap.... I did a short years ago and the thing turned up without one, spent a sweaty half hour gaffering a pulnix to the viewfinder. Also make sure you can power it from your sled. This is why its important to have prep time, ideally you should be sorting all this out now, not while you are standing around on set scratching your head! The SR2 is more steadi-friendly if you can get it.
