  1. Hey Kat, There are several considerations here: If you are hiring a pro Steadi op, (s)he will probably have their own system. If you are doing it yourself, you need to consider if you really need the 3 channels at the same time. You said you are using a RED, and if you are using a zoom lens with a 3 motor system, and who knows how many accessories on (hard drives, batteries, etc) you won't be able to do it unless you have a full size rig, and if you haven't done this before, or done it just a few times, you will have a very hard time going through "a series of long takes" unless you hire someone experienced. With that said, are you really going to zoom, focus and do an iris change all in the same shot? And if you are under budgetary constrains (who is not these days?) a 2 motor or even one motor should be sufficient. BFD's are excellent units and should be more that adequate, and you can put several systems together if you need. So, assuming you will be focussing on all shots, you could have a 2nd motor going between zoom and iris, or just stick with one, and use primes and cut up the shots, so you can keep them within the same exposure... But my final advice: hire someone professional and experienced to take care of the Steadicam part of your shoot. Much better use of your money, and lees headaches.
  2. More importantly, in the second video, what is the first op doing at 2:13 with his crazy whip off the stage?? Is he trying to break the camera off the efp or was he just that cool. If you look at the monitor corner you see in the corner of the video, you see that op 1 whips his camera as a transition for a cut to op 2. He does look cool doing it, but there's a reason for the move...

Previous owner was Rich Davis, this system has been super well taken care of, with the usual and normal wear and tear marks, but system performs flawlessly.   9. IMHO I think that using the iPhone/Touch platform as a display is a very smart and low cost solution, since all the R&D on that hardware part is done. The RedRock implementation might not be the most ergonomic shape, but the idea is fantastic, and I cant wait to see what other applications the Apple products can be integrated with

  11. Hey Damien, I used a few, and there's really no secret to it. I powered it from my sled, as I have a 4 pin XLR 12V out on my top stage. You might need a power cable depending on your set up. Be very aware of condensation and other issues that might arrise when you work in a humid environment. Good luck! Dan
  12. I'm flying into Fulton County Airport Saturday early and will be renting a car, so I'm game for a get together somewhere on Sat night. This day and age I'm avoiding flying commercial like the plague, and I'm super lucky to have an option!

If I were you I would design the shots with built in cutting points, like full frame wipes, cornering around objects, etc. whatever you can think to break it up, so if the Red goes haywire, or the lead actor forget his lines 5 min. from the end, you only need to do the last segment. It would be easier on everybody, with so many things that could go wrong, it would save a lot of frustration. I once did a one shot short that was 15min. long on an Aaton with the big mag. It's no walk in the park, and over 100 minutes non stop sounds like a marathon through the park... Best of luck! Dan

  18. Hey there, I'm from Denmark, but I grew up between Denmark and Sao Paulo, Brazil. I was there for about 15 years. I can say that Brazil is a very diverse land with countless cultures, a true melting pot, were they all truly interact. And from my experience, living now in my 3rd continent, it's all in the eye of the beholder. No place is perfect, but it all depends on what you chose to look at. Brazil is one of those places. I had many good and many bad experiences there, but the best part was all the friendships I acquired, and never lost. The beaches are wonderful, but not in the big cities, like Rio, very polluted... You need to travel a few hundred miles away from population centers. Brazil is an emerging economy, but has been so for many many years, since it got out of dictatorship. Back from the beginning to mid 80's, the inflation was rampant, at least 1% - a day! - so you could never get ahead. Now the situation is much better, but still under improvement. Violence is one thing to look out for. I had guns pointed at my head twice under robberies, and once I was chased while ridding my motorcycle. People drive like crazy too! The weather is great, tropical in the summer, and mostly mild in the winter. the cost of living is lower, but the rates are lower as well...   20. Hey all, Unfortunately I was not in town for this awesome event, great job Charles and all! I'm glad the weather held and worked out good! I wanted to add my .02: I remember having my IIIa and being very happy with the brightness of the picture but very unhappy with the postage stamp size of the screen. It was mainly because of that that I converted to LCD quite a while ago. The size of the screens were the drawing factor, but I discovered later a side effect: I had a couple of directors look over my shoulder to see the picture, as we were setting up the shot, just to hear how happy they were that they could actually see a color picture instead of the green and see the picture much better. As much as I dislike having Directors peeking over my shoulders to see the shot, this has brought me repeat business. I'm a very happy owner of a Transvideo cine IIIa superbright for a number of years. It has been in a bone chilling cold and snow and heat stroke inducing heat and I have not needed to have any service done to it yet and I'm definitely considering the HD version for a future upgrade. Now on the other side, if you don't have a sled that you can dynamically balance with the less mass of an LCD upfront, color doesn't really matter IMHO. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you put an LCD on a PRO, you would have to put the monitor waaaay out there extended to counteract the mass of batteries in the back, right? Then in that case I would absolutely prefer a Pro or TB6 monitor there. Just some food for thought... Dan
