  1. HU-2 Upgrade? Please expand on this. A battery adapter to use Sony style battts? Web site or phone #? How ? etc.
  2. How much, if you don't mind me asking?
  3. I believe it was wired the same as their battery cable. I have run hot Hytron 50 batteries and run Moviecams without a voltage reg. and have never had a problem. Have not used a Moviecam since switching to Dionics.
  4. Aren't all Moviecams "old". Are they still making them or have they been replaced by Arri, the owner of the company? Otto Nemenz in LA provides an in-line voltage regulator with the SL's they rent for this exact reason.
  5. Perhaps a few singles shoved into your g-string might make you more willing to do longer takes? Whoever suggested that scale wasn't a tragedy consider this: We are a business. That entails a certain amount of overhead; Insurance, payments or a lease on a vehicle large enough to haul all this crap around, a place to live in this LA market, not one of the cheapest places to live in this country last time I checked real estate prices, constant upgrades to our equipment, medical costs, reel creation costs, agent fees for some of us, taxes, business meetings at Jumbos and most important of all is the fact that this is not a steady job. There are long down periods between jobs which must be supported by an hourly rate that is higher than that of the person with a regular weekly paycheck. We are a talent pool and a resource for productions and they need to provide us with a livable wage to keep us around and in business!
  6. Erwin, please don't apologize for speaking passionately about what you believe in. I support you 100%. I think spending money on gear is OK if it makes you more efficient or a better operator. Better pack that new case soon because the NSA or Homeland Security will be coming for you soon. Actually you are doing more than your part to bring back the economy by spending as the government suggests we all do. Jamie, forget the "it's a toolcase" rant and redirect to Eric for boasting about spending $100,000 on transportation. Wish I could do that but private school takes up more of my income than I like to think about. I think that case is cool. All the custom foam inserts could be quite costly though.
  7. I believe they call that the "cheesestick". Trouble with mounting it that way is the CG of the camera is further away fro the gimbal which means your post will probably need to be lengthened which makes tilting a bit harder. But it does get the camera closer to the ground, which can be useful.
  8. Title says it all. Just the MDR. Email me if you have one to sell: lkarman@mac.com
  9. Erwin, I believe Greg has retired and is living comfortably in Bora Bora after selling you everything he has ever made. ;)
  10. Well Irwin I'd have to agree with you about the flex when mounting the focus motor way out there. Usually not a problem, but I have observed this. And yes, the reason bought the XCS plate was for the 435 low mode / DB3 clearance issues. Never happened with my old DB2. (Ron- the head of a allen bolt on the 435 low mode/100% tap plate sticks up about 2mm too far and hit the side of the DB3). PRO now makes a 12" long, extra thick camera plate which for me addresses any flex issues when balancing the camera waaay back in the DB (Genesis) or mounting a motor way out front. Al that being said I, like Matt, prefer the lower CG of my PRO plates and rarely use my XCS plate.
  11. The stiffness of the XCS plate far outweigh's the 1/4" rise of the cameras CG Actually it is exactly 1/2". What is it you and Erwin are doing that requires such rigidity? I'm flying the latest PRO stuff and can't say I see much vibration in my dailies. In fact I don't see any. BTW, I have one XCS plate and always thought the 3/8" tapped holes were a clever place to store the camera screws.
  12. Got to agree with Sydney here. That camera was developed for wedding photographers according to Canon. I understand you can't turn off the auto iris function in video mode. Kinda sucks when panning through different lighting conditions. There couldn't be a worse way to operate hand held then having to hold the camera out in front of you to get a look at the fixed LCD screen. As a still camera it's great but not a replacement for a video camera. And I'm sorry but what is so "awesome" about Reverie. Just a bunch of unrelated shots, some badly lit, just strung together.
  13. Try the McMaster-Carr catalog online. They have all kinds of wheels and castors. If they don't have that exaxt one I'm sure they have something similar you can rivet or bolt on. Or take it to Innerspace and they can fix it for you.
  14. Anybody have a spare set of 17" 15mm (Arri) size mattebox steel rods they want to sell? Email me at lkarman@mac.com
  15. Bale got some anger management issues to work out. I've seen this sort of eyeline violation tantrum from a couple of actors you might expect it from before and it's never any fun. Thankfully never aimed at me. Here's the lesson: during the take, sit down and shut up, and no eye contact. And for God's sake why didn't Shane just say I'm sorry and walk away? You can't win in that situation and why take the abuse. I know Shane and he's average size.
  16. [quote name='JimBartell' date='Jan 31 2009, 01:10 PM' post='41737' Jim "giving away the store" Bartell LOL
  17. It runs on a couple of internal 9v batteries but as you suspect it won't run with the modulus very long. It has an input for an external power supply; battery belt.
  18. I have a Kisch finder with a video tap and a power output and cable for a modulus. PL or Pana mount. It's not petite. Don't think you can achieve that combination in an optical viewfinder. Not to mention the lenses themselves are not lightweight. Perhaps you could achieve that with a video only finder.
  19. They neglected to include this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N34eMz_rY_U
  20. I believe he was talking about his LEG, Rob. I find the numbness is an issue when the vest is buckled too tight. Try and keep it looser. Walter will suggest more padding on the front "door". Not sure if this really helps and it makes getting the straps in the buckle a bit harder. Perhaps a strict Thai food diet and "workout" would improve that, as in Rob's case. I had a PRO vest before this one for years and I remember having to use an ice pack after long days on the area over my left front hip bone to mitigate the pain and swelling it caused. Maybe I did not have enough personal padding (adipose tissue) in that area. Sure do miss the vest's light weight, though. Like Charles said, those muscles are long gone and switching back and forth doesn't sound too practical.
  21. I'm confused, Charles. What's the point of having the HD transmitter if you are not going to put it on the camera? I thought the idea was is to eliminate the always annoying hard wire link to the DIT tent.
  22. Use UPS or Fed Ex ground and pay for their insurance. Might be around .65/$100. Expensive but worth it.
