  1. Mark,I recently used the Genesis camera in 2 piece mode. Panavision had a fiber optic link system for it (Telecast Rattler) which converted the SDI output to very thin and flexible fiber optic cable like phone cord. Here is the link for the product : http://www.telecast-fiber.com/products/hd/rattler.shtml Why not get the rental house to buy 2 sets or you buy them and rent it to the company if you anticipate doing this sort of thing in the future. Don't know what they cost. You can get the fiber cable online for cheap.
  2. You think or you are? Showing up without enough batteries or cables is a bad idea. You ask for advice here but seem to ignore it. My battery advice: based on my experience, stay away from Rathbone.
  3. If the AC gave you the camera power cable then the 3 pin XLR (battery end) is wired Pin1 +24v, Pin 2 ground. Just match up the lemo end. But how can you not already have this cable in your kit? It's a commonly used camera. What if they show up with an XL instead or if the camera breaks down and they send an XL as a replacement? Do you have that cable? Show up prepared for anything.
  4. I don't know about that cable, but Kings makes triax to BNC adapters. Get a male and female and interconnect them with a 6' very thin BNC cable. Also search the archives here on the board as there has ben discussion of just this thing in the past.
  5. Who makes these motors and how much do they cost?
  6. Now that got me laughing. Very funny, Ron. I saw one of these new Segway off-roaders today on the street and thought with the new steering post on it it could easily be modified for Steadicam use. I look on this forum and here it is! Great resource. The guy riding it rents them out for tours here in Boston. Said they use them as is for shooting golf (but with smoother tires). There are no apparent electronics in the steering handle, the key is wireless now, so it looks like a simple conversion for someone with time and a good machinist or welder if you can't afford the Handsfree conversion. I'd still rather walk or be driven.
  7. They are going to use "Dexter" as their beta dial in show, I should have two the first week of June and will report on the units performance How big is it? Weight?
  8. Well done, Erwin. If this has happened at least 2 times that we know of a redesign is in order. Be prepared to shell out more hard earned $.
  9. Holy crap! My titanium socket block split a few years back while on a vehicle mount and I've heard of others that had similar breaks, but I have never seen the arm break there. Going to take a close look at my arm tomorrow.
  10. Mohawk 978 537-9961 Item # M82046 or SOCX#521-4 Fiber Steadicam 6' adapter.
  11. Do you have 5 of them because someone must download the info on a SSR in real time to a tapedeck? And who does that? The down-loader? Not that I'm against making things lighter, but it seems like having to have that many will add much to the camera budget.
  12. Nice Andrew, but where is the small cellphone like lens with calibrated 16/35/Anamorphic/2/3" HD lens markings? ;) The Transvideo Titan transmits in 2.4ghz? Does this little recorder/monitor also receive any analog UHF or VHF channels?
  13. Garrett inspires us all with his creativity. Just a matter of time till they add a vest so workers could walk around with their tools. Finally a good use for all the old 3A arms.
  14. And now put the recorder where? Why not just put the transmitter on top of the camera, where the antenna will be at the highest point, or velcro it under the Preston.MDR? But if you want the weight down below then it looks like a nice mounting job.
  15. Looking for a used MDR 1. Must be compatible with the Microwave transmitter- not the older UHF. Please Email me at lkarman@mac.com or call me 310 351-7016.
  16. While I am not an expert I would expect the answer to be nobody knows what will happen. Of course your transmitter and receiver will still work, it's just a question of how many of the analog UHF and VHF frequencies will be taken over by emergency services and yet to be invented uses.
  17. Charles, i have a couple of those CEI units you could try as well as the heavier XCS unit. The CEI ones are analog and may be the same you said you tried. Why don't you have an ND3 gel mask taped to the monitors. This will allow them to see into the safety area and give them a hard frame line.
  18. Yeah Alec is right. AB has some proprietary circuit protection in their Batts that communicate with their chargers and or visa versa. It might not work so well with brand x. Is that company using them on the AB chargers? If not try one away from any flammables first.
  19. Chris, I don't know what sled you are using but you should check the size of those batteries to make sure they fit on your sled (the PRO sled has some clearance issues on the front battery plate and the top rear to fit under the recorder mount).
  20. I, like Charles, put my electronic level (XCS) image at the top of the frame line. This is where most of my attention goes during a take, as I am always monitoring headroom and you cant help be aware of the level. This is where an electronic level has it over a spirit level. I would hate to try and stick the plastic level right to the screen above the frame line. Additionally the XCS level allows you to select slower reaction times to counteract the effects of acceleration. Can't do that with a spirit level either. Wouldn't want to work without it. Just my 10 cents (it actually costs the US mint 5 cents to make a penny)
  21. I believe there has been some posts here relating to the safety circuitry Anton Bauer puts into their Dionic batteries to keep them from catching fire on the chargers. Check those out. I've seen those batteries on E Bay and like most things in life I suspect you get what you pay for. But please try them and let us know.
  22. According to the RED manual the RED end of the power cable is a LEMO plug FGG.2B.306.CLAD 62 Z Pins 1 & 2 +12V DC Pins 3 & 4 - VDC it says it is important to use both pairs of pins. I'm not sure if using a PRO sled whether it would be best to use one 3 pin LEMO power port only or make a siamese cable that also uses the 2 pin LEMO auxiliary port as well. This would allow you to hot swap batteries on the sled and not have to power down the camera (which takes a while to boot up) if you are in a rush.
  23. I have been using the Archos 400 and 500 series recorders for years now and am very happy with those units (the 400 is my fave). While the picture quality is not as good as with my prior video 8, min DV, micro DV units, the non-linear instant recall ability to review takes is worth the trade-off. I'm not sure the 605 has the cabled input/output/power connector the earlier units have. I believe it comes with a cradle mount which is not practical for our use. You are then stuck using the mini jack travel connector which sticks out quite far and doesn't provide power to the unit.
  24. From the picture you posted it looks like the only car made that could actually fit in your garage. Good for you! I hear they have a good crash rating with a formula 1 style cage built around the teeny tiny occupants.
