  1. I modified my High Mode post that Tiffen supplied me with to work with my D-bracket. I get maybe an extra 1.5' towards the ground, coupled with what I can do with the Flyer's telescoping post.. It works for now, and I hate operating it!
  2. If anyone besides Alan would be so kind as to send a copy my way, the info is in my signature :P Poor guy will be doing secretary work for years because of this thread! Thanks guys, Mike
  3. The only people that buy that will be the ones that didnt realize there was no lens and no camera in the AD's.. No threat to us, to say the least..
  4. Igor, I just purchased an 8700A system that will eventually become my backup. Since I don't have the IIIA, I need a way to turn that DB-9 connector into something. What is that module you show in your pictures and where can it be purchased? Is it the 8720-100 "Output Connector Box"? Also out of curiousity, what antenna are you using on the reciever?
  5. This is the primary reason why I'm confident in the RangeVideo.com product: That just goes to show that you can move the transmitter and still get a solid picture..
  6. Brian, I've heard rumblings that an EFP arm with blue springs would raise the capacity to 30lbs...I've got access to lathes and milling machines, so I could turn the post down to fit the Flyer's gimbal if that was an issue I just don't know where to go about finding an EFP arm! ps- MK-V has some attractive J/D box kits on their website.. ;)
  7. okay I don't feel as bad now...that's about exactly the result I got by strapping a 25lb dumbell to the dovetail plate, sled and all.. I still want more though! I got Dan at Tiffen to confirm that I shouldn't push the gimbal past 30lbs safely :D
  8. ...perhaps if the director should get too friendly with your rig?
  9. I've found myself acting as a scientist on 2 seperate occasions, both for commercials and my shots made the cut both times...not nearly as prestigeous as your 15sec of fame though Charles!
  10. http://www.gepco.com/products/distributed/...triaxtocoax.htm I think they told me about $100 each..
  11. Happy Birthday Charles! Your willingness to help out the little guy is an inspiration to us all.. I'd love to be in sunny L.A. helping out with your project, but I've got business to attend to here in snow Michigan <_<
  12. Below are some PDF files that reference each model # 7002 - $1000 6501S - $1900 6502S (1.2ghz) - $3300 6502S (2.4ghz) - $2900 Note that the 6502 models come with both a transmitter and a 2nd reciever (besides the monitor itself), and have the option for that 2nd reciever to be a diversity reciever (2 antenna inputs).
  13. I'm jealous Brian! My LE arm sags below horizontal with only a 25lb dumbbell on it! I guess I got the runt of the litter..
  14. Jerry, People like to pair the Canatrans with this: http://crampedattic.com/camos/index.htm This is even a step up from that with removable antennas and add-on recievers: http://hpvideo.tv/ Probably why it's popular to sell Tx and Rx seperately..
  15. if there's a list, add me to it
  16. Are the rod mounts and battery plates a sourcable item, or were those custom made too?
  17. Was your J-box a premade item or something that was custom fabricated to that rig? If you have any specs/dimensions, receipts, or part #'s, I'd like to start building a better lower spar..
  18. I love it all. I think you might have shown me a few snapshots of that rig back before I had my Flyer and was in need of a rental. Who did the work and how much did it cost if you don't mind me asking. I need more of a J-box than the flyer provides, so one way or another I'm going to solve that problem. I like the Monitor+Batteries solution! I'm really interested in doing some work on my LE.
  19. I'm pickin up what you're puttin down Charles. Got any pics to share? I'm thinking a rod system for both the monitor mount and battery. I have free access to a machine shop, so I can do all the work. I just need a visual reference to come up with an idea.. I don't quite understand what you're talking about for the monitor that will make it not affect balance. Also, what is the issue with having 2 batteries on the back? I'm not able to visualizie the other options..
  20. You've got my ear Charles. I didn't know there were options...please enlighten us! Brian, I'm pretty sure the hanger just took the route of least resistance, weaving through whatever coil or extra wire was stuffed down there. Probably best to do that with the post fully extended. For all you Flyer owners wondering what happens if you extend the post too far, you cant. There's a steel braided cable that gives it a maximum length, and the wires still have slack at this point too.. I like that distro box, but I'd want to switch them to 3-pin LEMO jacks and add a BNC jack somewhere that I would thread down the post. I'd like to have at least 1 power and BNC at the bottom for PGM monitor or what have you. It's just nice to have that option. If I ran 2, then I could run component video down the sled between all 3 jacks at some point if need be. That is all dependent upon what Charles is talking about with the lower spar upgrade.. Just thinking for the future.. B)
  21. Owners around the world are going to cringe at this. I performed an act with a wire hanger that is probably illegal in most states. I fed it down the post to see if I could run some more cables through there...and it worked! I'm going to add a breakout box to the rear of the topstage with 3 3-pin LEMO's and a BNC. The idea is to run a BNC and 3-pin LEMO out the bottom of the post for a program monitor or any other accessory that needs to be on the bottom and could require either power or video.. I just need to figure out what size and type of cabling to use, and what Tiffen did to allow the post to be extendable. Brian, looking at your photo again, there's probably something to be said about the extra ballast that Anton Bauer batters give you on the bottom of the rig..
  22. I might hit up Mouser.com for some panel mount connectors and go to town. I've seen small black test boxes at RadioShack too.. I'm impressed to hear that your 1st gen Flyer is holding those kinds of weights! Looks like you got a good arm there. I've never been able to get a straight answer as to whether Tiffen's rating of the Flyer includes the weight of the sled or not..
  23. I stand corrected then :) I guess what I meant was a camera package before we add the convenience goodies that Steadicam operators love so much.. Tiffen will tell you that every Flyer LE will support AT LEAST 19lbs minimum by spec, but the max weight differs between each unit because of variances in machining. I know my LE will fly 25lbs with the arm sagging slightly below horizontal...because I've gaffed a 25lb dumbell to it  The arm section closest to me will max out a little higher than the outer section though, which I attribute to the machining of those little bearing guides that move the spring up and down when you adjust it.. I like your idea to add power outputs! Is Tiffen doing that work? I'd really prefer to go that route instead of making Y-cables for myself. RED still remains the camera that haunts me. Too few ways to fit it on a Flyer. I have yet to fly a package with the new Epic or Scarlet modular systems though..
