  1. The focus knob has end stops and a good friction feel too. The Mini XLR is on the focus cable only so you can interchange adapters for different types of lenses. I think Erik offers Canon, Fuji, and BFD adapters for this. I should note that the zoom cable comes with the connector for Canon, and the adapters for other lenses extend off of the Canon connector.
  2. Hey Alfeo, Here's some shots of my G-zoom on the U2: Zoom Speed knob side: VTR/Return button side: As you can see, my thumb is on the zoom lever and my pointer finger is on the focus knob. Here's the interface that it has with my Canon HJ11ex4.7B lens: I ordered the G-Zoom Custom Edition which came with the Canon zoom cable and an adapter for Fuji. It also came with the Canon focus to Mini XLR adapter that you can see in the photo. I didn't order any other adapters because I only use Canon with this rig, but this is where you could adapt a Fuji lens or BFD adapter.
  3. Here are some old CP manuals that include the wiring for that DB-9 connector you speak of. Steadicam 3 JBox Wiring.PDF Wiring Harness.pdf
  4. I have a wiring diagram somewhere, I'll try to find it when I get home. An operator here in Florida by the name of Andy Montejo has a franken-rig with EFP guts and he made breakout cables to use that connector for power/video to a PGM monitor for live productions.
  5. If you watched the full show, he got a little face time with his kid in a later segment.
  6. Win7 64-bit, Firefox 3.6.12 - loaded instantly (played automatically), never waited for buffer Win7 64bit, IE 8 - did not load (asked me to download the file) OSX Snow Leopard, Firefox 3.6.10 - loaded instantly (played automatically), never waited for buffer OSX Snow Leopard, Safari 5.0.2 - loaded relatively quickly in some sort of skinned player (did not play automatically), never waited for buffer Win XP, IE 8 - did not load iPhone 3 - loaded and played fine iPad - loaded and played fine I don't have anything else to test it with lol..
  7. Correction, here's the code to include the iPad in the mix: <script type="text/JavaScript" language="JavaScript"> var agent=navigator.userAgent.toLowerCase(); var is_iphone = (agent.indexOf('iphone')!=-1); var is_ipad = (agent.indexOf('ipad')!=-1); if (is_iphone || is_ipad) { document.write("iphone video link here"); } else { document.write("flash video link here"); } </script>
  8. I do primarily flash on my website, 580x326 for 16:9 video @ 1800mbps using Sorenson On2 VP6 Pro for compression. Seems to be a happy size and bitrate. But realizing that a lot of our industry lives on their iPhones, I've made most of my site sensitive to that using Javascript code that detects if an user is on the iPhone and displays a separate m4v file for those folks. I just make that file using the iPhone export settings in Quicktime. The code looks something like this: <script type="text/JavaScript" language="JavaScript"> var agent=navigator.userAgent.toLowerCase(); var is_iphone = (agent.indexOf('iphone')!=-1); if (is_iphone) { document.write("code for iphone video here"); } else { document.write("code for flash video here"); } </script> Oh, and the iPad uses the same browser as the iPhone therefore this code will detect iPad users as well.
  9. It's all subjective in my experience. I went for Delta on my last trip because of their $50 rate and they wouldn't take my official Golf Channel ID as a credential, much less a call sheet or anything to do with the film. I ended up complaining to Delta (after talking to several levels of supervisors that stood by their agent) and they refunded the $235 baggage charges and gave me some free flight miles, but it was unnecessary harassment at check-in. I had no trouble on the return trip because it was out of a smaller airport and they frankly didn't care. I've had several agents that had no clue what a media rate was! It all depends on the 'tude of whoever you get on that particular day. It's still funny to see the expressions on the staff's faces when you put em on the scale
  10. Hirose HR10A-10P-10P (female side on the camera as the pinout notes)
  11. From my experience with the Sony cameras, Sven's thoughts are true. It's just a trigger. Open is no tally, closed completes the circuit and lights the tally. I use the Tracker connector on the Sony HDC-1500 to feed an Autoscript TallyPlus which ultimately piggybacks to the Ultra2's connector on the stage and lights up my monitor tally. Panasonic also uses the 4pin DC Out hirose for tally, but they also use the 3rd pin for Run/Stop whereas Grass Valley leaves it empty. Here's the diagram for Sony's tracker (for which I use pins 6 & 10):
  12. This is what I use. I had Terry West build it with a "pass through" for the existing 3pin LEMO on the top stage of the Flyer LE
  13. Unfortunately, that camera (like many other prosumer cameras) runs on 7.2V batteries. Your IDX batteries are 12v. I'm not saying it's impossible to make it work, but the short answer is don't cut and splice a cable straight off the rig just yet! You may damage something if you do. You can do some digging (or someone more "voltage inclined" can chime in) and you may find the proper voltage regulator required to make a cable that will go from sled to camera. I did the research a while back with the same intentions for a DVX-100B, but the cheaper/easier/safer answer was to fly the camera's battery.
  14. I've never had to pull Iris in any Live TV that I've done. Are you sure that this is necessary for the work you are doing? 99.9% of the time, iris is controlled by Shading. Even if you're not tethered, the common wireless units (broadcast quality) will allow iris + paint control..
  15. Correction - G-zoom will zoom AND focus natively on digital lenses (ie. no external motors needed like the stanton/jimmyjib controller). And if you don't encounter a digital lens regularly, G-zoom will use your BFD receiver for focus. I cannot speak about focus control on Angenieux lenses, because I have never encountered one...but I'm sure Erik knows. I certainly know that G-zoom will focus anything that you can attach a BFD to. Try stanton if you wish, too bulky for my taste..
  16. G-zoom product and Discussion and for the record, I do not get compensation for promoting Erik's product...I'm just a very happy customer!
  17. I made the cables just because, but I haven't had to use them yet. I usually prefer the extra ballast on the top and rear of the rig with those lighter pro-sumer cameras anyways. What prompted me to make the cables was an EX-1 w/ Letus35 Elite, Zacuto rails, Canon lens, mattebox w/ polarizer and ND, and my BFD. I haven't seen that setup again since.
  18. Sony Vaio Power Supply It's the same connector across most sony products, including their consumer camcorders and vaio laptops. Just pick the connector of your choice, cut to length, and solder. For me it was the Ptap since I use the Ptap-Multi on my Flyer LE. This is the exact one that I purchased several of for multiple cables: Vaio Power Supply w/ 90° plug
  19. The camwave isn't exactly the right tool for the job on live/multicam shows. The microwave systems for that type of shoot typically include an integrated 2nd antenna for camera control which includes a tally signal. If you can't get production to rent the proper gear, and you still want to use your camwave, you should look at the Air Paint by SkyDreams.tv for a wireless camera control unit. It's incredibly expensive for a 1-time solution though (like in the $10k neighborhood).. However, the radio-control aficionados around here might know a way to rig up a small tally-only link with a radio chip. It would be camera/ccu specific, but it's not impossible. I can give you pinouts for the common broadcast Sony cameras and ccu's if you need them. Otherwise you are going to be tethered by either Fiber or Triax, in which case you'll probably be looking for the appropriate flexible jumper.
  20. Thomas, is that blue cable powering the Boxx unit? Am I mistaken or did you use the camera's 4pin Hirose DC out? I'd be interested to know because those things usually have a 1A limit, but it obviously worked for you..
  21. Ok Alfeo, mate, your wishes may be.... Oh goodness.. I am slightly proud to say that I did a project for them last time they shot in Michigan. Props to Michael for this one!
  22. I could only find 1"x4" steel stock when I milled this one, but if you look up the specific weight of steel (and give it the old college try) you can gauge how long you need to make it to achieve the needed weight for your application. This one is about 13lbs:
  23. I've noticed ever since the forum upgrade that BB Code isn't working in private messages. I'm seeing everything as code when Previewing and also in the final message.
