This has been my beloved setup from the very beginning of my steadicam career. This entire setup has been HD upgraded courtesy of David Hable at Cramped Attic. Full HD centerpost cable with 2 x HD-sdi lines. This is a flimsy hd cable run down the post, this is the actual HD centerpost cable that pro, xcs, and Dave Hable make. The top stage was recently serviced and redone. Great starter kit for anyone looking to build a sled (at over half the price of new gear). Located in Los Angeles.

What kind of pro2 sd setup would you trade for?

Hey guys. So in response to the no clip on matte box problem, here's the main issue (I was at the said rental house when the first incident happened).

The problem is that the weight of the matte box with filters on the front end of the lens warps the focus forks causing the focus of the lens to go out of whack. Each set of new forks runs about $300. Zeiss itself has said this about the lens and they strongly discourage the use of any sort of weight being put on the front of the superspeeds. This is not the case on the ultras or the masters as they are newer lenses and their internal forks were designed a bit stronger. Trust me i've seen first hand the damage the weight does to the forks and it's clearly visible.

So there is more to the story than meets the eye, and Birns does indeed have the LMB-5 as well as their own clamp ons. If you guys want to know more I can put you into contact with the Lens Tech Stacy over at birns and he can show and explain to you the problem in depth.

Again it isn't because they are trying to be difficult or lack of stock, rather it's to prolong the life of the lens and not have to repair them every week a set of superspeeds comes back. And Zeiss themselves have reported that the lenses can damage from to much weight on the front of them.

yeah haven't worked on the bigger systems so i was stuck with the software based solutions. good to know.

Much like sydney I to have done my share of stabilization in Shake, Combustion, and After Effects, I'm well aware of what goes into stabilizing a shot. The program you linked looks as if to solve the biggest problem of warping (mind you the resolution thing is still a problem 1 out of 2 ain't bad).

The problem generally occurs when you track two points in a handheld or shot moving in many directions i.e. a steadicam. Once stabilized if you look closely at the edges you can see some warping and "bend" in the image. I just forwarded the link you posted to a visual effects and compositing friend of mine. I'll let you know what he thinks as soon as i hear from him.

From the looks of things it seems as though these guys have figured the problem out.

The main thing when stabilizing shots is making sure you have at least two points within the frame that are visible the entire time, otherwise you get into multiple paths and that gets tricky. I'm sure sydney and anyone else familiar with this process can agree that getting into multiple tracks when tracking a shot can sometimes be a bit more time consuming.

So I'm doing a little research on sled depreciation, mainly for insurance purposes (but also out of curiosity). So i'm trying to find out what the price of a 3a gimbal was when it first came out. In fact if anyone knows of an old price list that has the whole 3a setup (vest, arm, sled) that would be helpful as well. Thanks
