  1. They sent me the instructions with the chip. The jpg was a scan. Took around five mins total. I reckon it would have taken an age to work out how to take the case apart without them (unless of course removing all the screws in one go)!
  2. Hey Mark, I used this for a guide when upgrading mine. Hope it helps.
  3. See pics. The V3 focus mount is also available in V2/Evo size - both from MK-V - the 'H' shape bracket is a part from Preston themselves. The focus mounts uses the pre-tapped holes on the J box - you attach the 'H" to the MDR and the focus mount before fitting to J-Box and all sorted. Christian Betz also does a bar mount adapter correctly spaced to mount the 'H' to the 15mm bars on the Betz/Delux top stage (shout if you need a pic).
  4. Couple of minutes at most to undue the necessary bolt, swap the block onto the otherside of the spar and do the bolt up aagin. I echo the comments already made - its a great vest. I'm very pleased with mine - its a massive improvement over all the front mounted vests I've worn.
  5. IMHO - Seems expensive http://bit.ly/9cjdCa
  6. Hi All I have an Ultra 2 vest for sale - light use in tight doorways! Comes with Steadicam soft vest bag - Really is in near new condition come and have a look. £2,400 or US$3,650 or €2,725 no offers. Buyer pay insured shipping or collects from my London or Marbella address. Email for photos.
  7. Hi all I'm looking for a Pro Vest (note: GPI not Pro Gear) if anyone has one? Prices and pictures appreciated - will either purchase or if you're interested I have a nearly new Ultra2 vest to trade? Best regards Felix
  8. Hi Chris I use Rimowa cases for my non steadicam gear. They're great cases with a good after sales support (they supplied and fitted new locks free of charge for me after the TSA broke in a few years back). The pictures of mine below where taken today in Boston and as you can see they're a little bumped and bashed but they are just under ten years old. However, I'm not convinced they make the best case solution. Unlike a lot of flight cases where the aluminium is double skinned or wood backed, these have nothing other than the frame and lightweight aluminium skins. They dent very easily (although I use a rubber mallet to knock the big dents back out) and I reckon even with foam you could harm the contents. Also... I've lost a few of the rubber 'feet' over the last few years (see picture)... I guess I need to use a larger screw to secure the next one I fit! If you go down the Rimowa route make sure you get the TSA approved locks. There are still a lot of these cases available new without them and mine pre date TSA locks and the outcome is that if they want in, they break the locks off! Personally, I prefer Peli cases for my gear and I use 1610s and a 1620 for most of my kit. I may have a 1730 too but I'm not sure that's the correct number. I feel more confident you can stand on a Peli and do no harm to the contents - I wouldn't be as confident with the Rimowa. I reckon that my Peli cases are lower cost than the Rimowa cases too but this depends on where you source them and I found that innerspace cases do custom inserts (see my preston gear in a removable tray from one of my 1610s) which was 'off the shelf' and therefore lower cost than if I'd picked a non standard (i.e. Rimowa) size. Hope this helps! Best
  9. Thanks for the interest. The cart is now SOLD.
  10. Hi all I have an upgraded J-cart which is the same dimensions as the Backstage Magliner Jr. Has a bottom shelf with a rubberised finish and no lip. Top shelf is a standard (carpeted) top shelf with lip. Its been totally converted from a J-cart to be compatible with the backstage range. It has a standard magliner handle and the Backstage 8" pneumatic conversion. Also has a 5/8" stud Come and have a look if you're in the London area or emal for pictures.... Offers? I'd rather not ship it due to weight, size etc. Reason for sale is that I only need one magliner and I also have the Backstage steadicam jr cart
  11. Listing is now SOLD subject to payment/collection etc. Cheers Felix

  14. My understanding is that its aimed mainly at those utilising 35mm lens via lens adapters (the redrock crowd!). From my recollection, the pricing is very keen as it is intended to be a lower budget option. I know that the intention is to release a 'Pro' version at some stage. I sure Pete will chime in as its his 'baby'. This is a short video of the prototype: Prototype
  15. Hi all I'm looking for some views on the Arri WLCS in terms of reliability, AC reactions when they open the case (i.e. 'where's the Preston?'), and quirks in use. I've been offered a MK1 in good condition at a good price with a set of gears (.4 .5 .6 and some custom gears 48, 32 and 64) and a mix of cables including a 24v sled cable. I know its no Preston but its 3 channel and has 3 clm2 motors, seems compact but I can't find much on the forum discussing it. Anyone have a strong view or advice? Cheers
  16. If you really wanted a solution that would be insanely more complicated, heavy and expensive than some simple guy wires (!), you could try building a miniature version of the tuned mass dampers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tuned_mass_damper) the Japanese build into skyscrapers to make them more resistant to earthquakes... was thinking the same as Ed - I remember seeing the Hamster off Top Gear talking about ....
  17. ordered on 21 Oct from Elsevier and it arrived today (ahead of Elsevier's estimate of March 13th). According to my better half it looks great (but without wishing to be rude, she might be referring to the aesthetics of the book!). Looking forward to wrapping today and taking a peak when I get in.
  18. I got one (the HD10MD3) and had a cable made which powers the RED and the downconverter from my sled. Its reliable - easy to use and provides great results. I've not had any problems with mine but you should do a search here and over at RedUser as some people have had issues (not sure if there was an earlier problem now resolved with the latest firmware). I'm subsidising mine by hiring it out at around £40 a day - wont be long before I've covered its costs!
  19. I ordered Jerry's book on the 20th as it was showing available on the Elsevier website but a letter arrived today saying it was 'Back ordered' and 'Not yet published' and 'Due 27 Mar 2009'. The Steadicam Operator's Handbook, Jerry Holway, ISBN is 9780240811659 price £24.99 They had the contents listed on the website and I have to say I'm looking forward to a good read!
  20. Let me know what you've got and what you want for it? Thanks
  21. Thought you might be able to but I needed the handle off to fit in my AR rings! Once in the rings I could fly it hi, mid and lo.
