  1. I'm been using 'Billings' for about 2 years. Its $50- pretty simple to use. It'll track all of your work as well as purchases. Make reports, track payments etc. You can make you own invoice right through it. They also just came out with an iphone app that syncs with 'Billings'. So you can add, change, create and send invoices right from your phone. I've been really happy with the ease of use and all the features they give you for $50-. The reports were perfect for my accountant to sort out my taxes. I've created "custom blueprints" for rental items, expenses and labor and can drop them into a job que and tweak the amounts. So its super fast in putting things together in on shot or as you go.
  2. aixelsyd curses me again! Appon a second look your correct.
  3. Anyone else get this email? Is it a legit issue that the site needs assistance with the server cost for next year? If it is I'm happy to help. I just wanted to check with others here about it before just throwing funds into an unknown paypal account.

  5. most of the year I will wear some sort of athletic wicking running sock. Change them at lunch usually. My favorite pair are http://www.injinji.com/ they make great socks. They actually are like gloves as they have toes. The big benefit to them are an increase protection from blisters etc. Otherwise in the really cold months I also wear smartwool. I just get a mid-weight and mid-height. They are comfy, dri and warm.
  6. I've been getting into the barefoot running crazy over the last six months or so. The vibrams are very popular with barefoot runners. Everything that I've read (and experienced) so far has been that it takes your feet, ankles, calves and knees sometime to adjust as your using muscles in a way you have not before. I've sure with prolonged use of your 5 fingers you'll be fine standing around. I don't have the guts to wear the 5 fingers on set. We are enough of a sideshow at times. What I have done is switched to Nike Free Runners. They are super lightweight and have amazing flex on all angles. I also use my barefoot running technique of always stepping on the ball of my foot first rather than my heal. It produces less impact on your knees and hips and is better for your back and core. At first it does take your legs time to adjust to this but it has been worth it. On rough terrain, dirt, woods or in the rain I wear Inov 8 they have better traction and are weather proof. I used to wear merrells and loved them from my time as a grip right through operating. This year though I noticed how much my heals would bother me after a day on set. I started reading a boom made the switch.

  11. Been operating for around 2 years. Trying to make it work and not be a scumbag. I've been getting killed this year with people going out for silly rates. I have minimum I won't go below. It makes me crazy getting passed by on job after job for ops giving it away. Still have a long way to go but somethings you learn quick. Standard of rate for the gear is one of them. I'd be happy to go Strong Island on the undercutter.
  12. Last buyer fell through. Rig still for sale.
  13. Hi, Still avail? Yes it's still looking for a new home.
  14. Still going on and getting worse. I've spoken to 2 other nonunion operator buddies here in NY we have all been bumped off jobs for operators willing to go to sub $300- a day. We are all bumped off these jobs which we were quoting between 500-1000 for lowbudget and student shoots only offering 6-10hrs for the reduced rates. They were all day playing for 1-3 day jobs that were lost to follow ops just giving it away. To make it worse the ops who have taken these gigs all have 600 op cards. It's not an easy uphill battle for a young nonunion op trying to build their skills, clients, reels and reputations as it is. When the time is right I know I'd love to be in 600 certainly not knocking the union. Personally I know I need more time before trying to join the ranks and getting consistent work there. Its just crazy seeing that in the middle of the Summer people are going out for what I won't even leave the house for. I'm sure it could always be a producer playing the game to try and get us to take a dive. I'm not going for it.
