  1. The last few years my father has been filming his own doc about surfing on Long Island. Been interesting watching him learn and grow as a filmmaker on his own. Very proud of what he's been doing.

After the way Sandy has hit the east coast many of the locations he's been filming are gone. Hopefully they can restore the beaches and dunes and eventually some of the spots will come back. If you have some time take a look. Sandy is likely to change the meaning of his little film for many. He thought he was done with principle photography but looks like a new twist.

Anyway check it out http://ahundredmilestotheend.com/ he's also put together a nice little Facebook page 'a hundred miles to the end'

  4.

If nothing happens soon there's a full Archer kit for sale in a couple of weeks.

One that bobs a lot ? Good luck with your sale .... yours is now the most famous Archer in the world.

So? Every G50/G70 arm is now worthless without this expencive upgrade.

    far from it

  5. Anyone who has done the upgrade care to chime in? What was the cost? Was there a cost?

G50X and G70X arm owners, can you weigh in as well? Have the concerns been addressed?

I've owned a G70 for over 2 years now. Overall very happy with the arm. Its smooth, the range is great, its relatively light and fast. Now on slow moves I have noticed the g wobble. It's not huge but happens.

In October I had the chance to fly one of Mike O'Shea's arms after he got it back from Tiffen. He had just upgraded it with them. He was quite pleased with it. As I was really happy with my g70 I was interested to see how much different the new setup could feel.

Jumped into a rig and spent a good 3 or 4 minutes really playing with my arm to have the feel and muscle memory in my hand. Then I put O'Shea's 70 with the new setup on. I boomed the arm up and down once and my jaw dropped. The difference in friction and smoothness was crazy. I was shocked that something could feel that much measurebly better then my stock g70. It responses to a much lighter touch than the old arm did. The wobble I saw creeping around on my arm while doing a roundy round wasn't there either. So I was very impressed with the improvements.

I think the upgrade was 2500-3000 usd. takes a few weeks to do. Its been on my list of things to do to the kit since I tried Mike's arm. That and gyros, more focus units, cables, batteries, better cart, van....... it never ends

  6. The range of those reverse sensors are between 1 & 4.9ft (1.5)moving at the top speed on the Segway you are going 15mph (24k) which is 22fps (6.7m). So at the max range of a senor while at top speed you have .25seconds to react to the sensor's warning.

At slower speeds it could be affective but having a spotter and not getting lost in the monitor are likely your best bet.

The wheel covers on Chris and Ulrik's steadiseg look like a good option, especially for brushing up against a fixed object or one that can be deflected away from the unit. Though I would be warry of an object being redirected under the standing platform and either getting wedged or acting like a security car barrier, the result of which would not be good for the operator. Something getting stuck or wedged are highly unlikely and I think Chris and Ulrik have a pretty simple and effective solution.

Operating on the handsfree introduces a number of additional obsticals for an operator; falls can and will happen.

  7. I know 2 operators that are very happy with the mk-v alexa plate.

I've been thinking about adding the actionproducts Universal Arri Adapter Plate http://www.innocinema.com/product_info.php?products_id=111

    &

    the Action Products BridgePlate http://www.innocinema.com/product_info.php?products_id=109

It looks like a good combo for the Alexa and a dlsr or any number of other cameras. Looks like a quick way to go from sticks to steadi to handheld without adding a lot of weight.

  8. Selling my Ultra Vest. It's in great shape and has been well cared for the last 2 years I've owned it. Comes with an unopened set of backup hardware from tiffen and a vest bag.

Wire transfer or check payment. Buyer pays shipping. Will ship anywhere in the world.

    $3850-

  9. So now that the BDR has been out in the field. I'd like to know how the 24v vs 12v operation has been? Jim has said on his site he recomends running it 24v. Has anyone noticed any prerformance differences?

  10. How has this unit been working out for you guys that have been using it? How many minutes per GB of video are you getting?

I was looking at Atom's new Samurai at 5x the cost.

If the hyperdeck works and I can get away with 2 or 3 220GB drives it seems like a no brainer.

Doesn't seem that the Hyperdeck gives any option in video format and quality. The nice thing about the Samurai is you can pick and choose.
