Pilot System or Pilot Sled with Flyer Vest
Nick Tsamandanis replied to Joshua Stern's topic in Vests
Joshua, I never liked the Pilot's vest, so I sold it and bought a Flyer vest, much better. I pack the vest in a separate bag as it won't flatten down like the Pilot's. -

Congratulations and all the best to you Charles! -
On set... try a nice fat header cable to a HMI 10K or larger At home or off set... tennis balls are also good and if you really want to dig in... golf balls I was thinking more along the lines of a foot rub from an on the set hottie...but will also give the balls a try.
-
No, but I could do with a good foot rub.

To increase drop time close the arc a bit and/or use a bigger battery. Try get it to two seconds.

Bet he was operating with a long post.

Pilot or Flyer or Scout - help me decide
Nick Tsamandanis replied to Nigel Barker's topic in Steadi-Newbies
I use the Flyer vest with my Pilot, and I love it. Yes ratchets would be nice, but it does get the job done. Can't fault my Clipper's LX vest. -

Awkward Operating Technique
Nick Tsamandanis replied to Aggelos Mantzios's topic in General Discussion
Don't knock it - its a secret "ninja" operating technique  , only known by a select few, I guess the cat is out of the bag now. Charles, can't wait for the next instalment, btw ALL my behind the scenes videos have been deleted -) -
Joe, I always shoot with a quick release on the Pilot, done many with EX1, never seen a problem.
-
That was nice! Very smooth and straight. What else did you have loaded to your rig? Just the camera? Sony Z1 & quick release plate.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-NBsJvHDlE4 My first attempt at running with the Pilot a couple of years ago, have never had a problem with vibration. Check that everything is tight.

New vest without straps for Pilot
Nick Tsamandanis replied to Bart Wierzbicki's topic in Steadi-Newbies
Cheaper here: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/446422-REG/Steadicam_803_7800_803_7800_Standard_Vest_f_Flyer.html You could also sell the Pilot vest as I did to recoup some of the cost. -
New vest without straps for Pilot
Nick Tsamandanis replied to Bart Wierzbicki's topic in Steadi-Newbies
I didn't like the Pilot vest from the begining, so I bought a Flyer vest for my Pilot rig - MUCH better. -
suggestion for a 2nd step in my career
Nick Tsamandanis replied to gabriele gallareto's topic in Steadi-Newbies
This is a great point. At the workshop in Rockport, ME recently, a couple of the students already owned Pilots or Flyers and had developed the habit of operating with the rig in front of them rather to the side. Obviously, this is immediately found to be improper as soon as a larger rig is put on, and it took about two days of solid practicing to break that habit. As soon as I put on a big rig it took me around three seconds to break that habit...
