  1. I am planning on making up some bartech epic start/stop cables. Would people prefer a box with a 9v battery in it or an extra plug that plugs into the bartechs 2nd power port? (wont work with the digital receiver) -Jess
  2. I have rg179 inside my sled. Taped it to the origional coily cable so that everything telescopes fine and soldered it to the sleds origional non HD speced BNCs. I chopped a cable to do it and put a barrel in the middle so that I can disassemble the sled. All those connections arent ideal but the only time I have ever had any dropouts is with the Red which puts out a weak HD-SDI signal. Even then it didnt cause any problems so I still haven't bothered replacing the barrel with the female BNC connector I have sitting on my desk. -Jess
  3. Spec sheets on stuff like this often list maximum power consumption and in actual use it is often less. If you need a voltage regulator you would actually be much better off with a unit that has something like 9v in. The required input voltage on most 12v regulators will be lower than a fully depleted 14.4v battery. There are options that will work you just have fewer to chose from. Try to get a switching regulator if you can although they are often more difficult to implement. ~Jess
  4. i believe PRO has enlarged their socketblocks ever so slightly so on newer vests it is no longer a problem. -Jess
  5. I just carry AB plates and adapters for XLR and cigarette lighter plugs. Lets me charge phones, etc.... ~Jess
  6. ive ot a Hi8 camera burried somewhere in the garage I can dig out. havent used it in ages but worked last time I tried. -Jess
  7. I will have a stop/start cable for the F3 as well as one for Canon DSLRs shortly. I have a working prototype on a breadboard just waiting on parts to get it all built in to a cable. I can make some more up if people are interested. ~Jess
  8. I think its time to make the question harder :-) I joined another forum recently that had a rather high level and poorly worded math question to prove you were a person. The forum hafd absolutely nothing to do with math. In comparison ours is really easy even if you have no clue about steadicam.
  9. I think its time to make the question harder :-)
  10. Anyone know if its using some variation of LANC control? If so shouldnt be too hard to come up with a bartech to LANC start/stop circuit. I could wire up a bartech to IR remte circuit but then I would have to power the damn thing. If there seems to be much of a market I can make up a run of little micro controller boxes to handle such stupid cameras. -Jess
  11. The last time I ran into this problem I simply told them that I AM a rental house and the problem was solved. Later they asked for the name and address of my company and gave me a funny look when I told them my name and address but didn't argue. If you are renting out gear then you are a rental house, I don't see any problem with calling yourself such even if you don't have a separate business name. -Jess
  12. What is the modification for some of the Heden motors? The Heden M28VP is another nice motor to consider. Not as powerful as the M-One but a good solid motor. -Jess
  13. Looks like it will output both with the right settings (which the manual is very unclear on). Sometuimes I love being wrong.
  14. On a shoot with the F3 recording to a Ki Pro Mini and turns out the camera will NOT output an SD signal without switching the SDI output to SD-SDI. Obviously can't do that because we are recording to the Ki Pro. Just thought I would point that out since other threads on here say that there is no need for a downconverter with this camera. -Jess
  15. One trend I have noticed when people get new batteries they tend to compare them to what they have been using. The problem is usually that they are comparing a brand new pack to one with sometimes many years on it. Also I have noticed some chinese battery packs that have a great capacity when new but are horrible after less than a year. Make sure you compare apples to apples. -Jess
  16. IMHO Camos is the way to go. The receiver is rock solid. I use mine with handles and an AB plate on back. Battery lasts all day and I dont have to keep an additional style of battery and charger around. I even use mine(with my modulus) on HD jobs when we have HD to village. Directors love it. -Jess
  17. As long as there is enough range in the diopter you should see focus just as well without glasses when it is adjusted properly. If operating a film camera light leaks could be a serious problem with glasses. Have you thought about contacts? I like to operate with my left eye open a good chunk of the time which isn't nearly as useful when its out of focus. I wear contacts. -Jess
  18. My setup doesn't use a 3/4" post (or need an f/j bracket). Are you sure its 3/4" and not 19mm? My older Actioncam setup is all metric. Its only a .05mm difference but add a few errors in accuracy and loose tolerances and you can have problems when trying to make something. Are the posts in your arm removable? If so a couple of custom posts may allow you to use a standard 5/8" one. I don't have time to make anything up right now but talk to Tom at cinewidgets. He can probably help you out. If that doesn't work out let me know and I will see what I can do. ~Jess
  19. Congrats. What did you get? When you get over the baby the gear stage and you want to pimp it out you can play in my garage machine shop. -Jess
  20. I had that point hammered home for me once when an AD was rushing a shot in which I was hardmounted on an ATV and traveling within a couple of feet of a number of mortors that the pyro department had setup. I simply needed to talk to the head pyro guy to verify that the ones on the same side of the road as me were not loaded or being set off for this shot. The AD assured me that they weren't and was trying to rush things. I held my ground only to find out that no one had told them I would be there and they were planning on blowing all of the ones I was driving by. To get an idea of the scale we are talking watch this: ~Jess
  21. i have done Steadicam in the aisles of a scale set of a smallish airliner without the ability to fly things away and while some shots were doable it was definitely very limiting. Shooting straight down the aisle generally worked fine but panning without hitting things was tricky. Of course it all depends on the particular set and what you want to shoot. In general I found a slider to be the most useful tool in a p.lane. -Jess
  22. And if not I probably want atleast one. -Jess
  23. Automagically isn't a new term although it seems to be getting a lot more popular lately. Its apparenntly in the oxford english dictionary, has been used in computimg circles since the 70s or 80s and apparently was used in a number of appliance ads in the 40s and 50s.
  24. It is awfully nice of ebay to insure fraudulent transactions. This guy really went out of his way to make things look legit with that letter. Reminds me of using ebay back in the days before paypal when western union actually was a common method of payment. Things have come a long way since then. ~Jess
  25. My understanding of the way the law is interperted (that would be federal copyright law) is that the camera operator and the sound recordist own the copyright to the physical recordings as they are the ones recording them(if recording off camera this may be a less clear cut case). Your deal memo will say that it is a work for hire and as such they own the copyright but if you are not paid then that contract is not in effect. I am of course not a lawyer and have never played one on TV. -Jess
