  1. I believe there is also a digital M1 motor which would be lots of peoples first choice.
  2. If I remember correctly we did get a little closer than 10ft and the 3D guy said it was okay as long as nothing touched the edge of the frame but this was all greenscreen so there was no background to worry about. We had a giant 3D TV as video village monitor so it was rather easy to spot problems. One interesting thing I learned from the experiance was that certain framing that I would normally avoid because it awkwardly stacked the actors and props they loved in 3D thanks to the seperation that it provides. -Jess -Jess
  3. As far as the Panasonic rig goes you can actually shoot things closer than 10ft it is just that they will appear to be coming out of the screen at you. Correct? I did a greenscreen music video shoot with this camera and it was a dream. 3D light enough to require a weight plate and no real worries about alignment, etc... Of course it is limited but not nearly as bad as I expected. The deep depth of field actually seems to be a good thing for 3D. As far as the 21st Century 3D rig goes did they finally come up with a good solution for having the front camera shoot up instead of down? I flew a very early version with 2 EX3s and that was not an option.
  4. For certain things I am a big fan of vertical or even square frames. Of course in this business we rarely get a chance to play with non standard aspect ratios. Looks like dynamic balance might be a bit wonky with your monitor setup but otherwise should work for a quicky setup. The counterweight is going to force you to fly the sled further away from the body than normal but with such a light setup probably not a deal breaker. An L bracket of some sort should allow you to fly the camera more centered. ~Jess
  5. Date: 1250186756 PostID: 1321389193 Title: (crew gigs) Need Crew to build me a house Need plumber, electrician, carpenter, the works. Prefer people who have left over materials from other jobs who can provide them at no cost. Must have own tools. I can't afford to pay you but I will provide all the free pizza you can eat(2 piece maximum) and all the non bottled water you can drink! (the neighbors have a hose). This is a great opportunity for you to gain credit building a real house that you can put on your resume. I am sure that it will get you lots of future jobs and be totally worth it. Must have own tools and be fully licensed and bonded. I plan on turning right around and selling this house and while I won't put it in the contract (or even have a contract) when I make boatloads of money from this venture I promise to give you a piece of it.
  6. The few times that I have used mine I was very happy with the way they functioned. I was able to do a running shot on ice and felt totally comfortable doing it. I wore them over a pair of boots. ~Jess
  7. If your vest fits right you should not have a lot of weight on your shoulders. I do get some sciatica when I haven't been working much lately and as a result spend a lot more time sitting at a computer, etc. Moving around, operating Steadicam, etc actually makes It go away. Don't know how Steadicam effects it in the long term but in the short term the effect seems to be a good one.
  8. A multimeter will answer all of your wiring questions and allow you to verify that you did it right.
  9. What about the G-Zoom? (http://g-zoom.com) Is it not suitable for some reason?
  10. I have played with lots of monitor distances myself and I find in general I like to keep it relatively close to the center post. The main reason for this is that when I have it further out I find that it is harder to view both the monitor and where I am going in Don Juan. If you are an operator that totally avoids Don Juan then this is less of a concern. The only real reason I would have to move it out from its normal sweet spot would be to move the masses further out to create more inertia but I don't do that very often. ~Jess
  11. The times that I have encountered the body scanners I actually found that the pat down was faster than going through the scanner. They do nothing to speed up the process and are significantly slower than the metal detector. Also know they instruct you to take your wallet, passport, etc... and put it through the x-ray as they don't want it on you during the full body x-ray. I don't know about you but I have had people pick up my stuff after going through the x-ray machine and there is no way in hell I am putting such personal items on the conveyor belt. If you protest they will let you carry it in your hand instead. I am sure that there are people concerned with real security on airplanes but the reactive nature to all of the rules is a joke and quite frankly no matter how secure they make their secure zone it does little to make us safer as it simply moves the target to something else. Do you want your entire life to be spent going through TSA security checkpoints everytime you want to enter a different building, bus, taxi, etc? If you don't then it doesn't accomplish much. If they wanted machines that actually accomplish something they would be using the ones that sniff for bombs instead of the full body x-rays. These do accomplish something for both security and for speed as with them they could allow us to keep our shoes on and maybe even carry liquids. Full body x-rays aren't nearly as good at detecting bombs. The things that they will detect are small weapons that quite frankly could easily be substituted for something else that is just as effective of a weapon that can be easily carried onto a plane. Also the health concern is a very real one. In modern society we are subjected to a lot of radiation and any unnecessary radiation is something to be concerned about. There have currently been no long term studies on the health effects of the technology used in these machines. Also there are now a number of reports saying that these machines actually expose you to much higher doses of radiation than the manufacturers claim. It seems the manufacturers are averaging the amount over your entire body and as a result your skin is getting a much higher dosage than the numbers they claim. Even if the health risk is only a small one I really don't feel that there is enough of a benefit.
  12. I am interested in getting one as well.
  13. Yeah I usually go with the pat down when I run into those stupid things. Im not a big fan of someone sitting in a dark room looking at naked pictures of me without atleast getting dinner and a movie out of the deal.
  14. Actually the vertical vibration isolator does isolate the up or down (z axis). Hence the vertical in the name. It is not what is pictured above. ~Jess
  15. Oooohhhh..... A nice powder blue.... Thats a reeeeeal manly color for your steadicam cases there James Those powder blue cases would be much less likely to get stolen. Pink would be even better. I know of one fire department dive team who was sick of gear disapearing so when they got new scuba gear they made it all pink :-)
  16. From what I have seen I would say putting a Basson on a truck is a recipe for disaster. I would not trust it. Cheapest new sled option that I can think of that would work would be ActionCam but overseas service is never great so it depends on where you are located. As far as under $1000 optons go there was someone on here who posted a while back pictures of a camera platform that they built that sit directly on the arm instead of having a whole sled. Could probably add some gyros to the concept and make something up within your price range. It's not exactly Steadicam but the results will be similar. What exactly are you using for an arm? You need something trustworthy as what you ate doing will put a lot of stress on it and the possible failure modes are not good. -Jess
  17. A 1/4-20 bolt will fit through Jerry's square to round rods and you can use a 3/8-16 to 1/4-20 reducer(got mine at a photo store for like $3) to mount it. Haven't tried it but I don't see why it wouldn't work and if I didn't have the parts it would only cost me $50 to get them. Of course you don't have the locating pins so it is a bit less solid. ~Jess
  18. You can tape the diopter adjustment in place after setting it. Not perfect but better than nothing.
  19. The plates don't come with it (well just the one for the bottom) but atleast on the V-LCD651STX the holes are there for them and Marshall sells them. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/480414-REG/Marshall_V_LCD70TMB_02_V_LCD70TMB_02_Tripod_Mount_Brackets.html They may not do exactly what you need but they may be a useful piece for a solution. ~Jess
  20. The Marshall has holes on the sides and top to screw on their little mounting plates which have a 1/4-20 threaded hole.
  21. On a similar note what channels do people find work best with a modulus around New York?
  22. What I meant was they may have simply figured out a way to create the keyed effect without actually cutting a groove in the carbon fiber. Don't know as I haven't looked at their product that closely.
  23. While I haven't seen how they do it I can think of atleast a couple of safe ways to achieve this so I wouldn't be too certain.
  24. Won't load on my origional iPhone (OS 3.1.2)
