  1. Hedens service is great even from across the pond. Service takes a week round trip. -Jess
  2. I have been experiencing delay in 4k as well although not as bad. You have to stop fast moves short and watch actors instead of monitor for critical timing. Sucks.
  3. There is lots of stuff out there designed for doing just this. You can add a deep cycle battery to your car with a little box inbetween that will allow it to charge from your cars alternator when running but will keep your accessories from draining your cars starter battery. Best bet for wiring this up may be a 4 wheeler accessory type shop. You can also install a trickle charger so that you can plug in your car to charge your batteries or get even fancier with it if you like. ~Jess
  4. Havn't had him do dionics but all my batteries are recelled by him and have been excellent. Wouldn't think twice about it. Seems strange to ship so far but USPS flat rate boxes are cheap and suprisingly quick so it makes sense. ~Jess
  5. They won't sell you the topstage to do it. If you could find a used one it would probably require custom wiring and machining which could get expensive quick. ~Jess
  6. How does it help with internal power distribution? Are they really having different power pins go to different things? Don't see how that really helps anything and it has the potential to lead to slightly higher voltage drop/power loss. Using multiple pins for to get the same amp rating in a smaller connector makes sense, just has the problem I mentioned before. ~Jess
  7. The whole splitting current over multiple pins thing just always bugs me a little. If one pin breaks or the wire to one pin breaks you are suddenly carrying more current over the other pins than they were designed for which can lead to fun things. That may be why they went with 8 instead of 4 so it will be less of a jump in current if it happens. May be a reasonable design tradeoff to get it to fit in a smaller space but that combined with having to solder 8 instead of 2 pins when making up a cable just makes it seem so un elegant which is not what I think of when I think arri. ~Jess
  8. Why the hell does a power plug need 8 pins? Does the sliding baseplate come off and give reasonable mounting options? Are we going to need a new plate? ~Jess
  9. Domestically I usually fly southwest and with their media rate both bags can be oversized and overweight (up to 100 pounds) with zero fee.
  10. He recelled some of my proformers as nimh. Big improvement in runtime and none of my chargers seem to mind.
  11. Just ran across an interesting site with specs for different heads: http://www.englishhandwheels.com/geared-heads-old-and-new/
  12. I am definitely in the world of rolling on the rehearsal. Using the wheels almost all the time at the moment and liking it, although with no rehearsals I am finding that staying in a higher gear than may actually be necessary and getting comfortable with operating them from odd positions seems mandatory. Haven't tried to the gearhead on the slider mainly because the arrihead 1 that we have seems like a bit too much weight on our POS slider without extra support.
  13. I am reasonably comfortable using wheels but currently on a show where I have an arrihead and looking to up my game. Any tips or techniques anyone can share? When do you like to use it vs a fluid head? Anyone like using one on big slider moves? what about hand positioning and posts vs the wheel itself? Gear selection? I know how I do it but always looking for tips on how to get better. -Jess
  14. Anyone know if the bolt and bartech and protected from reverse polarity? Love to know if hooking up the wrong cable has the potential to let out the magic smoke. Contemplating rewiring my bartech and cables so I can just have one set of cables....
  15. Dont have hers, but your welcome to my 10ish pound custom one
  16. Camwave and Boxx both also used amimon chips. Not sure if they had the WHDI branding but still using a version of the same basic chipset. Paralinx may be able to claim that they were the first to sell the consumer form factor as a professional product......
  17. I usually prefer shrink tubing but liquid electrical tape is good stuff for those pesky times when you cant get the shrink tubing where you need it. Just keep in mind that it isnt as easy to undo so if you use it on something like a connector you may not be able to undo it as easily to fix a problem. Also it can be messy stuff.
  18. Keep in mind that wireless follow focus motors really arent working that hard. The same motor moving fast with a load on it for an extended period of time may be much louder. That said I would also love to know part numbers for the motors and encoders they use.
  19. Chapman doesn't rent camera cars http://www.chapman-leonard.com/CAMERA%20CARS.html Although I have never used them in LA so maybe they don't here, always been my go to in Louisiana and Texas.
  20. A friend of mine has his Movi already but it doesnt go out without him or myself. Chapman or any of those places rent camera cars that come with a front platform to shoot from.
  21. Also if you have any trouble just give Jim a call. He is super helpful and supportive.
  22. Looks like I am working this weekend and the response wasn't exactly stellar. Maybe next weekend or the one after.
  23. Anyone feel like getting together for a little social gathering? I will gladly provide my backyard and grill if others will help bring some food, drinks and show up. I am in Culver City so im east of the 405 for you east side people. Could even get a little poker game going if anyone is interested. Any takers? When works best? I am thinking maybe noonish sometime this coming weekend? ~Jess
  24. Is the upper junction box taller than the old one? ~Jess
  25. This was a fun one: http://jesshaas.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/4307_724811894139_14832338_42470426_7831912_n.jpg Going high speed hardmounted to an ATV on the windy dirt roads of a rock quary was probably the most dangerous part but the time they set off one of the mortars early and we were next to it and when the AD was trying to rush things and wanted us to go before I had a chance to talk to pyro definitely added to the fun. Turns out if I had listened to the AD we would have been about a foot away from one of those when it went off....
