  1. Anybody have any experience with this Marshall monitor for Steadicam use? I've always been a fan of transflective screens, find they work great in sunlight. This monitor also has a digital horizon indicator as an added option. Also has a variety of battery backs to choose from including Anton Bauer and V mount. Marshall tells me the horizon overlay can be moved and placed anywhere on the screen, which is a nice feature. The only cons I see so far are no image flip feature. And also there's no peaking in full color mode. Only a black and white "focus assist" peaking mode. Otherwise looks like a pretty nice monitor, would love to hear some real world experiences. http://www.marshallmonitors.com/products/monitors/V-LCD651STX-3GSDI/index.html
  2. Cool, so what's the power output and safe distance for a Boxx Meridien, according to FCC?
  3. Just curious why not use a lightweight steadicam rig in low mode?
  4. I'm so sick of hearing about this amateur, microbudget kid's toy somehow "replacing" the steadicam. There are dozens upon dozens of things a steadicam does that a Movi can't and will never be able to do. It's all been discussed many times over so I won't get deep into it. It takes two operators. It can only carry a baby camera. Fast, accurate, precision movements are totally out of the question. Bravo to the guys who built the Movi, it's a great little instrument that may carve itself a niche, but in no way will it ever come close to "replacing" a steadicam. They don't even belong in the same category. Anybody who makes this moronic statement obviously knows nothing about camera stabilization devices.
  5. So what do we say Chris? Do you have 5 orders for the Shotball to start a run? Can I send you a check? Not interested in an $8000 Air Floater at this time.
  6. Thanks Charles, this looks promising. Will definitely check into this as well.
  7. Yes, I'm in for a Shotball. What kind of lead time are we looking at?
  8. Anybody have or know of someone who has a Shotball for sale? Please call or shoot me a PM. Very motivated buyer. ~ Nick (310) 567-9668
  9. Thanks for sharing Jacques. Alot of us here are obviously big admirers of your work and would love to hear any stories you have to tell. Please come visit more often. ~ Nick
  10. Yeah, I'm especially curious to hear how a $2,000 Bolt compares to an $18,000 Boxx. Are these two even in the same league or what?
  11. Just wondering if there are any HD transmitters in the pipeline that can compete with the Boxx. By this I mean equal to or greater level of performance. After using the Boxx for a year with almost zero issues with reliability, range and functionality, I'm convinced it's the best unit out there. I'm aware of the Teradeks, Arrows, Paralinx and other current HD transmitters, but in my humble opinion, all are still inferior to the Boxx. Is there anything out there (or on the way) that we can say is at least on the same level or higher?
  12. I had to add my complements. That was some great work. Very inspiring.
  13. This is probably the forum most appropriate for this, so I wanted to publicly thank all my SOC brothers and sisters who were kind enough to submit my nomination for TV operator of the year. This was a great surprise. And I am humbled and honored to be included with such a fine group of operators representing the TV and feature film categories. It is a great compliment and a career highlight to have my work recognized by me peers in this way, so I give you all my deepest gratitude. ~ Nick Davidoff SOC PS - SOC Lifetime Achievement Awards take place Saturday, March 8th in Los Angeles. 14. Also, I'm curious how you go about choosing the "top 50" operators in L.A? What is your ranking based on? Credits? Recommendations? Years of experience? You've got people on your list who are professionals with dozens of years experience mixed together with people who've just started operating.
  15. That's pretty awesome stuff. I'm gonna get some. Have no idea what I'll do with it yet.
  16. Thanks Eric, I look forward to seeing them. And guys, thanks for the input. I understand how to decode the readouts and I'm well read on the instructions. However a time remaining number for me is just somehow not very useful, especially since that time is always fluctuating because the load is always fluctuating. A percentage scale is also, somehow not very accurate for me. A simple voltage meter is, in my opinion, the most accurate and reliable way to gauge the capacity of a battery. GPI got it right with their old style chocolate bars. And when you know how each camera behaves, you'll know exactly where your voltage cutoff is and how far you can push it before shutdown. At least if this voltage info was in a small corner of the readout then you can take your pick, Time, percentage, voltage. Beauty! (I hope someone from AB is getting this)...
  17. This is a topic much discussed between me and my AC's and fellow operators, but I haven't seen touched upon here much. The voltage readouts on the Anton Bauer batteries. Every single professional person I've talked to in our line of work finds them more or less useless and difficult to decipher. Between all the bars, numbers and pie charts I find these graphs at best give a vague indication of how much battery life remains. I've been using a simple voltmeter in my sled for a few years which I rely on exclusively. I have a basic three digit voltage measurement and I always know exactly where my battery level is and what my voltage cutoff is depending on the camera. It works beautifully. Now I love my Anton Bauer batteries. Wouldn't trade them for any other brand. But the AB displays in my opinion (and many many others) are in some alien language that is inaccurate and unreliable in determining battery life. Three bars a "2" and a couple half pies is information that is meaningless to me. Why not have a universal, 3 digit voltage readout? Simple, precise, useable. Or am I just a moron?
  18. Yeah, getting a little bored reading about all the shipping and billing drama. Would love to hear some stories about how this unit actually works in the field. How does it compare to the $18,000 Boxx Meridien which is, in my opinion, by far the best HD transmitter in our industry today.
  19. Purchased two for rental on TV show and production decided to cut one after 4 weeks to save $$$.
