  1. I had serious vibration issues in a running shot flying an Amira on my Artemis Cine sled/ arm/ vest.

It has never happended before. Everything was well tight in the sled. Today I checked it all over again to look for loose parts.

I noticed some vibration on the batteries bracket when extended. I pulled it closer to the post, remove on battery off of it but i am not really sure it was the cause.

After resetting 1.000 things it went away and also by that time I got the AC telling me that the lens was a bit loose (master prime 50). So i ended up not knowing the real cause.

    I had no long plate.

I posted the pics of the setup as it was.
    Any thoughts on this?

  2. Hi there,

Nedd some help here: I will fly a Sony F55 this week using my Artemis EFP,

    I have two concerns:

    1. The weight of the camera (maybe is just too lightweighted for the Artemis arm)

    2. The video output from the camera (i'm using a Transvideo CineMonitor II. Both sled and monitor work on SD Video.)

I was thinking of using this AJA to work around this: http://www.aja.com/en/products/mini-converters/hd10cea/#overview

    Any suggestions??

    Thanks!

  3. I suggest a dab of Teflon grease where the spring wraps around the shaft, but almost any grease will do. (lithium "white" grease also will work well.)

    Jerry

Do you think Graphite grease a good solution too?

    Thanks Jerry!

    I'm your fan!

  4. Sounds like the backlight died, bummer! Pretty sure a replacement monitor is the way to go, but you can talk to tiffen about what it would take to replace the backlight.

    Good luck!

Any chance it was caused by an overpower from the 88w Swit Battery?

  5. Remove the cable from the camera. Is the camera monitor still black? If so, you've exited Live View mode. The camera automatically does it when idle. Return to that mode and you should be good to go.

I've removed the video cable from the camera= Still Black.

Removed the battery from the steadicam and pluged it again = Still Black

Now I've returned the camera to the client already.

You're telling me it's something from the Canon 5d?

  6. My Flyer Monitor Just went black while I was testing with a Canon 5D.

    It's an SD Monitor.

There's no light whatsoever. Even the blue screen when is on "NO SIGNAL DETECTED" is off. It's gone black!

The green power light indicator is on but the screen is black.

I'm using 88w new Swit Batteries,

    Any clues on this?

    Thank you.

  7. If a Tyler isn't available or out of the client's price range and there's no way around maybe try a system I've used with bungy cords in an X pattern in the doorway of Jet Rangers. The camera is suspended by the handle from the crossover in the X (with appropriate safety line) making sure to attach to the camera at a balance point that allows the camera to hang at an angle that will require the least amount of force from you to get the shot. A remote zoom/record handle would be very handy for this as well. Here's a pic of the first incarnation of the system before progressing to the full X config.

    Good Luck

    Norbert

I think I may try this!! Thanks Norbert!

  8. Hi all,

I was recently asked by a client to shoot some aerial footage from an helicopter and he asked me if it has any advantage on using the steadicam.

I didn't know what to answer really because I've never tryed it before and I recall being told on the Tiffen workshop never to combine: Steadicam + helicopter.

    Any experience on this?

    Thanks

  9. Hi there,

I'm intending to travel to Brazil from Portugal with my gear. Could you help me on the the basic procedures when travelling with gear?

.Customs (should I pay import taxes over there?)

.Shipping (is it better to take it with me as my personal luggage or to ship it trough fedex or similar?)

.Insurance companies (international coverage, any suggestions?)

    Thanks.

    Regards,

    Edmond.

  10. Hi there,

We're two portuguese camera/steadicam operators looking for a place as AC's in L.A.

We have an international internship government program that will pay for all costs.

This internship must have between the minimum of 3 to 9 months (max.) duration.

You can read more about this scolarship here

    LEARNING is our main GOAL!

We've been flying steadicams for only couple of years now in the spanish market. Been to

Steadicam official Workshops in England. And many years in the industry as Tv camera

operators. We wish to work as Assistant Camera so we can learn from others work. As referred

before: Learnig is our main goal!

    Thank you

    Eder Neves & Edmond Fetue

ps:(We will happily send CVs and showreels)

  11. Hi Edmond, contgrats on getting a steadicam gig! Daily shows are great for putting time in the rig, becoming comfortable with it.

My first tv series with my steadicam was also a daily cooking show many years ago so this brings memories for me.

I would suggest you invest in some triax to coax connectors and a 7ft (or length to your taste) very thin 75 ohm coax cable so you may decrease the drag on your rig that the triax is making.

I would also suggest you try to get a focus controller that works with your zoom control. Eventually they will want you to zoom into close ups of the food and you will want focus control event though you're on a wide angle lens.

Hope you fly safe and enjoy your experience and don't eat too much of the food on set!!!

    Best Regards,

    Bryan

Thank you so much Bryan! It's always good to take advices from someone that has been trough the same experience.

Now replying to our private messages conversation:

I'm flying with a 2 sec drop time. It's a quite old rig and arm that I'm using so it's not that precise and to overcome this gear's handycap I use a faster drop time. (... Good,, bad?)

About the triax to coax connectors... anyone knows where to get this in Europe?

    Thanks once again!

    Cheers,

    Edmond
