  1. Chris I have your opinions in great consideration as I have for everyone' else here. I have to put down a couple of concepts to make myself clear. 1) This is not a war against Tiffen, it's a push. I want to push them in being cool with their ops, we're the ones out there carrying their equipments and we payed good money for that, I think we deserve it. Since not all of us are feeling it, for sure not all of us will ask for the upgrades. 2) This situation comes out only after Jerry said the stiction issue was gone (in G50x generation) due to bearings upgrade available for G50 owners as well. When stiction/bobbling or whatever you call it is confirmed what would you do in my place? Ok nothing because you as Bryan don't feel the bounce. But I as many others do. 3) Bryan reference to a workshop was totally out of place. (sorry Bryan) 4) I'm not the one who can criticize your reel or anyone else'. I just do it to show what I'm talking about but anyone feel free to criticize mine. I'm open to critics, considering them a push. My reel speaks for me and for selling the arm when I will, what I'm talking about is not reselling neither the arm is not good. 5) I'm doing this for many out there not having the possibility of saying it. 6) I'm a bit frustrated on this bobbling/stiction issue. 7) last but not least I feel the brotherhood :) I did that points not for being assertive but just to put down concepts easily, I'm not native tongue, with friendship, maqu
  2. again when you approach the family at the wedding just before the cut there's a bobble. Bryan I'm talking of something really noticeable for maniacs, not in everyday work. But I want my work to be perfect, not an everyday work.
  3. I'm talking of a specific issue that people know about. Have a look at your reel near the end, 180 round around the guy. That's what I'm talking about and you were not going so slow either. I tried many arms (never a PRO) and never went to a workshop. I did have a 2 spring parallel arm before G50, a total crap but much more isolating.
  4. Well in 7 years you're supposed to operate good, I did notice the bounce first time I use it and I was 2 years operating. Probably your arms don't show it, sounds strange but good for you.
  5. Matteo: I have purchased two G50 arms. I am happy with both of them. no bouncing? slow walk ok?
  6. Brian Freesh out of curiosity do you own a G50 arm? Brian Fowler you said you see improvements but did you experience the issue? Bobbling? Or whatever you want to call it?
  7. Any news from Tiffen? Upgrades for free or charge? How much is going to cost? No news bad news. I want to push them since now there's a solution I'm struggling for having it. thanks, maqu
  8. Garret?!? Never met him in person though...
  9. Alec, I agree with you, in a year or even less this issue is going to be forgotten. And there'll be no big devaluation involved. But for me the problem is now for working not reselling, I love the arm and I want to work with it freely. Next week I'm gonna be on a set with a big italian director and DP, they already told me it's going to be architecture inside a museum, no actors... ouch... maqu
  10. Alfeo, I end up having zero iso in my arm, meaning turning the ride know to its lowest, meaning using the arm as springy as I can. And I did that not because I don't like ISO but because it was the only (for me) way to reduce the awful bounciness. I started 2 years ago with my G50 and I can remember from day one the situation. I was used to make this exercise, the camera pointing 90 degrees walk back and forth shooting a perfectly horizontal handrail, I see the bounciness, then I start for months playing with ride, no results, then I end up lowering the socket block and using the arm with no ISO-Ride. But I still see them, less but once in a while they occur. Light load a real nightmare. Now I always shoot with ZERO Ride. I'm confident too that Tiffen will stand next to its products, especially when they're going out with a new generation intended to substitute the older. maqu p.s. it was never my intent to be rude or not respectful to everyone here, If I do it was a mistake and I apologize again. The reason is I love this craft and I got really involved in to this.
  11. Ok. Lucky you. He's speaking very slow moves, that's why I got into it. May be you didn't slow walk. Anyway, I don't want to keep it on here, really, I don't mind. Thanks
  12. Since I'm involved in the other thread, here too I'll answer. No. Training has nothing to do with it. Regarding G70 I cannot say anything since I never try one but maybe others can tell.
  13. I apologize. It was not my intent at all.
  14. on a side... offering free (or low cost) upgrades would be great PR and customer service for Tiffen. I want to make it clear again, I feel great working with my rig, as said previuosly by others, telescoping post, tilting head, tunable arm... all are great innovations and beautiful to have on field. I come out from freaking situation thanks to my equipment. There's just that thing with the arm we NOW ALL KNOW ABOUT to solve. maqu
  15. Sorry but I don't agree with Afton. i don't feel it's an upgrade. I feel it as a fixing thing. Consider it's not that improves something, it just make the arm work as it should from day one in the situation we all know. Let's not start a quarrel between people feeling it and people not feeling it. That's not the point here, nor the point is buying stuff from Tiffen or being happy with that. Let's stick to the point and the point is G50 arm is not working flawless, Jerry himself said it, upgrades are fixing it, let's see if it does and if it does how much is to do it. maqu
  16. Here's not a matter of being happy with Tiffen or not being aware of the specs of an arm before testing it. Here the point was (since now it has been addressed as it should have been from day one) an arm that was not working properly in specific conditions (slow walk) but people at Tiffen and ops in general wouldn't say that in respect of Tiffen and Garret. That's ok, I can understand it but when I work I don't mind Tiffen nor Garret, I mind what I deliver and as William said watching the monitor with your DPs or directors and feeling shame is not good (I repeat it only in super slow walks other then that I deliver good shots and you can see them in my reel and feel safe in buying a G50, I've been using it for all the stuff in there). Let's see what Tiffen will do, I'm eager to have this upgrade. As said paying or not. The "air" people feel over this thread is due to the attitude Tiffen has towards this issue, it's you not the arm, never believed it and got quite frustrated for that. Anyway I'm confident. maqu
  17. Chris, verbiage isn't a nice word in general, specifically on a matter of money invested on a professional equipment that should deliver professional result is totally out of place. Excuse my rudeness but I don't understand you're attitude towards this issue. It's like you're trying to hide something that was stated few lines before by Jerry himself. "More importantly, to Rob's question, yes, the stiction issue is gone. Jerry" this stands too maqu ps I like you call me Maqu :) ps2: If the issue is gone that means the issue was there, this is logic not verbiage.
  18. Chris I understand your point but you didn't answer to my questions. You feel immediatlely the difference, so where is it? Why immediately? In which sense? "I have not been shy to pick the phone and call them directly at any time I felt like it, and any suggestion or comment, clever or stupid, I ever had about their gear has always been dealt with to my full satisfaction." Assuming that there should be no problem with our problem as well. And to add my experience with them in UK they've always been kind and spot on with solutions. my best maqu
  19. "I've tried both x arms. There is no doubt that you'll notice the difference immediately. Having said that, I've never had the 'bounce' problem with my stock G50." Not to be rude but that's an admission there was a problem. If you feel the difference where it can be other then in the only part that was giving problem to a big amount of ops? How can you notice the difference immediately? Where is the difference? my best maqu
  20. Hey Chris, :D yes you know :D ... I've been asking a lot and you were always kind in answering and confronting with me. I'm sure too this new upgrade will solve the problem. maqu
  21. Chris, I've no doubt you never felt the bouncing, but as you know I do feel it a lot. It's like an unexpected bounce coming from the arm but in no way linked to a specific step or move. It's like you walk 3 steps ok then the 4th bounce, why? don't know... Anyway Robert explain it perfectly, I was and I am in the same situation. It's kind of relief reading from seasoned and established ops that was not only me or my technique (even if I never doubt about it). I'm sure TIffen will take care of that. To be absolutely clear the arm works great if not used at super slow speed, other then that it's perfect and beautiful to fly. maqu
  22. Hi Chris Glad you confirm the goodnes of the mods. If you're talking about the stock arm I got from you it' not possible that you never feel the bounce because it's the one I'm using and I've noticed it from the very first time. Then it takes months to understand it wasn't me, then other couple to accept it. Then starving for a solution, lowering the socket block, etc etc.. This is crucial only in slow walk dolly style. We all know what I'm talking about. And I'm sure Tiffen will provide a solution now that it's clear and accepted. Free or charge. maqu
  23. Hi Steve, I guess it's a nonX version. right?
  24. Me I want the problem fixed. One way or another. Now that IS clear, accepted and confirmed by Jerry that our stock of G50s were wrong I want a solution. I'm also fine in paying a little for having it fixed but main thing is to get off that awful bumping. You don't know how many times I've asked myself WHY??? WHY??????? WHY???????????? And people (DPs and Directors) noticed it, only in slow walk ok but for me it's like 80% of the work requested. It's always slower slower please. Never thought it was my fault since with my first arm (a crappy 2 springs parallel arm) never ever had an issue like that. hope for a good, fast and brilliant solution. maqu I love my Tiffen equipment, now I want to love Tiffen aftersale
