Question regarding isoelasticity of Flyer LE arm
Brian Freesh replied to Kevin Stiller's topic in Steadi-Newbies
There is something wrong with the arm, both of your issues demonstrate this. Send it in to Tiffen. Good luck :) -
Good on SmallHD for updating their customers of the delay and the reason.

Brian Freesh replied to Kyle Fasanella's topic in Brackets/Widgets
Case in point. So I'd make sure to talk to someone at the factory in LA for stuff like that. I'm sure Harry did just that and relayed the info, but cutting out middlemen is much safer. -

Steadicam Zephyr gimbal position question
Brian Freesh replied to Josh Pickering's topic in Steadi-Newbies
Be careful Ron, if the editor pauses he or she will see you drinking that 40. -
Hey Everyone, I don't think this has been posted, so I wanted to put it out there. Derek Hester is out on Parental Leave this month to help take care of his new baby boy and girl! His first day back is the 29th of July. In his place is Uriel, who can be reached via Derek's work email and phone number. Kristi Davis, the factory's admin asst is also helping Uriel handle the load. They're a bit swamped as the factory was closed all last week and it's not they're regular gig. Derek did train them before he left and from what I can see they hit the ground running to keep up with repairs and keep in touch with customers who have repair orders in. I know recently myself and someone else urged an operator to only get answers from Derek. Obviously that's not true for the next few weeks so I thought I'd put this out there. Uriel and Kristi are doing a great job of filling in the gap.

Anton Bauer is the brand, Gold mount is the mount. Hytron 50s would do you well, I've always used 'em. Not good if you need to power a hungry camera, but great for powering the monitor and a follow focus. John ritter sells recelled Hytron 50s for I think $100 each, and I believe he still gives a discount to steadicam forum members. You can find his info on the forum.

Need to Rent: Wireless HD kit in Texas
Brian Freesh replied to Mike Germond SOC's topic in Industry Contacts, Info and Links
Don't care about headphones, if the director wants the handheld monitor it's because he or she wants to be close enough they won't need a comtek anyway. When they're wearing headphones they are at the studio monitor. The aforementioned $100 difference is for the HD-SDI version of both monitors. -
Need to Rent: Wireless HD kit in Texas

That'll be a nice heavy director's monitor. I can hear it now, "Moving On!" after 2 takes instead of 10, just so the director can put the damn thing down! I'm looking at HD handheld director's monitors too (hey, I'm just jumping in to an already hijacked thread), and this Marshall certainly looks like a good choice. I was also looking at the Small HD AC7. It's a little lighter which will be good for the Dir/DP, and for use on my Flyer (I don't use it much but it goes out on rental occasionally), has slightly higher resolution (but I don't think I care), but the main thing is that it's only 400 nits. The Marshall is 800. For $100 and a few ounces in savings I'm not sure it's worth it. However, I imagine they're both going to require a hoodman outside and wash out in direct sunlight, so I'm not sure the nits is that big of a deal. I've successfully used my Flyer monitor outside, and a really old SD handheld TV as a dir monitor outside and those are both under 500 nits. Ozzie, and everyone else here, what do you think? Ozzie, you're thinking of using a Cinetronic 1 so I guess you are finding that daybright is important for a director's monitor? Again, in which case I'm not sure if the jump from 400 to 800 will be worth it anyway. Brian "anything to save a buck" Freesh -

Who is Harry? I've never met a Harry at the factory and I'd be skeptical of precise measurements like that from anyone who doesn't work there. Nothing against him, and sure he means well, and he may be correct. And if he's been hiding in a corner the whole time, my bad. ;) -
Agreed, Baldwin's reminding us to vote all the time is tiresome.

You can still upgrade to the Arrow Plus later, I believe for the purchase price difference, or not much more. -
Discussion with a Producer about the MOVI
Brian Freesh replied to Jamie Northrup's topic in General Discussion
Then, exactly what I said, except now that I know we're talking about a hypothetical future of the MOVI being dialed in and easy to use you can ignore the last bit. Not getting how my job is in jeopardy. I can operate a MOVI too. -
Discussion with a Producer about the MOVI
Brian Freesh replied to Jamie Northrup's topic in General Discussion
Since they are not interchangeable tools, I'd ask to speak to the DP about the shots they need to achieve. Also, since the MOVI is still in development I'd tell them now is not the best time to use one and it will likely cost them a lot of time in figuring things out. I'd ignore Will, for some reason he has taken the introduction of the MOVI personally. Maybe one killed his father. -
I just had a scary vision of a new form of internet "literature." I now foresee a day of short stories and novels, from comedy to serious dramas, told in emoticons...

Brian Freesh replied to Ed Oates's topic in General Discussion
I agree on keeping it small, light and simple. 3rd axis for sure no need to accomodate a transmitter so long as the cable is integrated or can be run without interfering with the range of motion. I'll talk to some other people and see if I can't get some more input.
