  1. Hi guys and girls. So, today I tried to push a Steadicam 3A/efp gimbal through my Mk-v 1.5” center post. I don’t want to force it but it seems way to tight. I wouldn’t want to damage the post.

I have had a pro gimbal on the post since I bought it, but now that I am getting ready to sell off my efp, I need to get the original gimbal back on the rig. Has anyone else delt with this issue? I know it was advertised as being compatible with all 1.5” post.

    Thanks for your time.

  2. Excellent points. I was just trying to play devils advocate. This is just my opinion but I felt like his target audience was going to be a project that hadn’t even thought about using steadicam (Students) and not a producer with the intentions of replace a working operator. I could be wrong but what “legitimate” production would bring in an ope for “Only ONE scene with a max shooting duration of four hour.” That was only one of his specifications. I would be really surprised if he actually got any real responses.

    Cheers.

  3. I'm with the other Andre on this one. I bet that even with this offer, he got few if any real responses. For those of you lucky enough to do steadicam for a living I can see how this would be an outrage, but for those of us trying to make a name for ourselves in an over saturated market with the catch 22 being that everyone wants to see footage before they will even give you consideration, this is actually not the worst idea. He's essentially trading a favor for a favor. His demands are pretty specific and ensures a product that would be beneficial. Like I said earlier, I doubt he got any real responses that actually came through. This is LA, a place where full size rigs with wireless FF can sometimes be had for close to nothing.

  4. Thanks for the answer Ron.

A few years ago I modified my Steadicam efp sled with an Mk-v carbon fiber post. It’s a nice mod but the post is 19” tall combined with the tall profile of the efp lower electronics, it can feel quite long.

I bought the pro one clamp because I would like to reattach the original post and I believe the mounting screw pattern on the clamp is the same as the Mk-v (4 screws). Because of that bayonet pattern on the clamp, the lower post of the two stage efp will not fit. I’ve never seen a pro 1 post before so, I’m not sure how pro made that shape to the post. I assume by looking at my pro 2 that it was a machined piece that the post screwed onto? I’m trying to figure out this dilemma. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

  5. Hi everyone,

I am curious to know how the old Pro model one center post was attached to the base. I assumed the clamp just tighten down on the lower post until I bought one of the clamps last week. It’s not perfectly round; it has two notches in it. If anyone has pictures or a good description of the old post, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

  6. I bought this bracket a while back from an operator who had it as a back up and sold it to me when switched to a Hill Docking Brackets but, I was unable to use it because it was the wrong size docking clamp and balancing stud for my pro post and gimbal.

Tiffen Steadicam Docking Bracket #1 w/ 3/4" balancing stud and locking pin.

Includes NEW never used Tiffen Steadicam Docking Collar for 1.685" posts (bottom post on Ultra & Clipper 24 for docking in low-mode; not sure what other posts it fits)

The dock is in very good condition, very little wear.

Dock Price New: $975.00 from Tiffen Steadicam (Price in 2009. Not sure what they are now.)
Collar Price New: $150.00 from Tiffen Steadicam

    Selling Price: $550.00 + Shipping & Insurance

If you're interested, send me an e mail and I'll send you pictures. For some reason I could not post them here

  7. Nice Rig Robert. I really dig the new gen IV battery rack. I have had a pro 2 SD set up in the works for a few years but never wanted to put the old pro 2 battery rack on it. I really hope the gen IV battery rack will fit the SD Pro 2 lower junction box.

It seems like a nice option. I guess I’ll find out next week at NAB if my plan will work. I have decided to sell my steadicam efp rig and use the money to finally finish my pro 2.

  8. They got a good deal for $7000. It looks like it came with a master vest as well as the original efp vest. The original efp vest had a pretty weak center spar so the upgraded vest is cool. Looks like the standard efp arm with gray spring covers. An original video cage, some arm post and the original j-bracket (A nice relic of the way things were before the f-bracket). The sled looks stock efp with the original LCD and a CRT. Cables and two cases.

It’s rare to see these rigs for sale anymore. The last complete efp set up I saw for sale was quite a bit more then that and did not come with any extras. I would say whoever won the bid got a pretty good deal. What’s nice about the efp rig is that it’s so volatile, easy to modify and upgrade. I picked up a carbon fiber post, pulled the Pro gimble off my pro 2 project and the thing flies awesome. With a good machinist, a bit of research and ingenuity, you could fix the pesky dynamic balance issue but, there are still guys out there doing amazing work with the stock “battery mount.”

Just my 2 cents. Good luck

  9. I need to get your advice. I have a pretty nice rig that I haven’t used in over a year. I don’t want to sell it but, I’m pretty busy in my line of work at the moment and do not see myself working as an operator any time soon. I feel bad that my rig just sits and collects dust. I know there is still a great interest in operating out there.

I am interested in renting out my rig but have no idea where to advertise this other then letting the community know. If you have any suggestions, please let me know.

    Thanks.

  10. Ive been curious about this for some time now. I currently do not have time use my steadicam. I have not given up on it as it is my passion and something I enjoy immensely.

I own a full steadicam efp rig as well as a pro vest and partial pro sled. I feel like its just sitting at home collecting dust at the moment and I would like to know if there is a way I could rent out just my gear? Are there rental houses in town that are interested in that kind of thing? Have you guys heard of a way to do this?

  11. I agree with the workshop advice. There are a lot of options these days but, the efp is definitely a great rig. There are many posts on the forum about this rig that you should read.

The great thing about the efp is its modularity. Since owning mine I have made mods and upgrades but, I had flown everything from large eng cameras to Arri Sr’s stock. The modification options are practically endless and there are company’s out there that already have plug and play upgrade options for most, if not every part of the rig. A huge plus is that the rig has “standard” professional parts that are interchangeable with most of the reputable company’s around the world. Things like a 1.5’ center post, standard socket block size, etc. As long as the arm is in good shape you can switch out the springs with rig engineering, Luna, or even just 3A if you’re concerned over weight issues. I have yet to max out my stock efp arm and I have flown quite a few Red’s.

I have been thinking of selling my trusty efp because I have a pro sled and vest now but, I’ve been hesitant because I only own one arm. I would be willing to part with the rig if the price was right. I could put that money towards a new arm. Let me know if you’re still in the market.
