  5. Selling my personal Preston handset HU1 and MDR1. I have upgraded to the HU3 and MDR 2 and looking to consolidate my gear a bit. This has been a fantastic unit that has been a great workhorse tool for me. In 18 years I have only replaced two fuses and changed the iris slider this past Christmas, which got a bit loose. The main knob works like new. New slider has zero hours on it. The unit comes with a omnishot battery adapter and i will include two large Sony M size batteries with the purchase. The original charger and batteries are included which will likely need a rebuilt as they have not seen a charge in 5 years since I switched to the omnishot adapter. This unit does work on 12 and 24 V, there is no external 24v adapter needed as in the UHF versions. included will be: (1) P tap /safetap 12v power cable (1)Sony VTR run stop cable (1)Sony f5/55 run stop cable (1)Red One Run Stop cable (1)Epic Run Stop cable BNC (1)Epic run stop cable lemo (1) arri 3 pin run stop (alexa/amira) (2) motor cables (24") (1)jerry hill Uni clamp (15mm,5/8",19mm) (1)jerry hill 15mm clamp (1) FI &Z hand unit 1 (1) FI&Z transmitter module (microwave) (1) MDR 1 (1) omnishot sony M battery adapter (2) M style omnishot M batteries (1) lightweight no name charger (1) SONY lightweight charger (1) spare transmitter antenna (2) DM-1 digital motors (6) lens marker rings with studs (3) lens marker rings without studs (3) preston Nimh batteries for recelling (1) preston battery Nimh charger (1) spirilox bound manual (8) pico fuses for MDR driver board (1) Nanuk hard case Asking 5000.00 USD for the lot. will consider breaking up motors and MDR separately if kit does not get serious offers. This unit actually outperforms my current Preston for range. FAQ it cannot be upgraded to G4 there is no serial port for cinetape This would be a great unit for a newer op who needs a reliable focus unit that can be offered to production at a reasonable price, and gives you an upgrade path to HU-3 by re-using the motors and having the cables remade.
  6. Bolt Pro . Works ok. I use it for short range transmission. 1100.00 USD. I use it on multi cam to look at B Cam's shot. Upgraded to Bolt 2000 last year.
  7. I have one. but its Black. Used to use it on the model 2 back in the stow age. very thing profile. works quite well actually.
  8. any pics of preston gimbal micro force? analog or digital motor hookup? I have both.
  9. XCS still makes brackets with inserts. i have a set of 2 inch clamps with step down sizers for my rental kit, to fit tiffen, PRO , and XCS. Being able to rent gyros to other guys has paid off in referrals too...
  10. I was an early adopter. #48 I think. originally built in 2001. Service is fantastic. The Klassen parts have held up extremely well, and the harness adapts well to EZ rig with several after market adapters, Klassen makes one and Lentequip markets another that is a bit faster to change back and forth. I use the air bladder system, which allows for adjusting fit , but have found that once i finds the setting i like i leave it. The original bladder lasted for 10 years. the ratchet straps and buckles do sometimes need replacing, but i can do that in under 4 minutes ( three if the AD is looking at his watch). The ratcheting strap system does eventually wear, and i keep a good stock of strips . If they look worn i just change then out. Again, easy two minute job. Klassen always gives you spares of buckles and straps when you buy new. I will say this. I do use an aftermarket MK-5 male PRO socket block, which is solid steel, with a double thickness shoulder piece. Klassen also makes a solid PRO arm adapter . I have both sheared a titanium male block, and blown out the tie rod ball ends. The ball rod ends are not at all necessary with the Klassen harness as the tilt angle is adjusted by a knob integral to the rear Klassen arm. The same is true for the Klassen Hard mount adapter. Most of my local colleagues have made this adaptation too to continue with the Klassen rear mount harness, which is still the most comfortable thing I've used. It is a bit wider getting through doorways, small corridors like airplanes etc, but for live work, its awesome. All of this equipment is intended for professional use and it is assumed that as a steadicam professional you have a basic understanding of basic care and mechanical maintenance. I like the fact that some manufacturers are posting Videos online to demystify this process.
  11. yeah the 2ooo is really my personal go to. the 300 was just on a show i did, two cameras, very little issues so long as the receiver was in a reasonable range. the only issue i have had is the 2000 does not play well sometimes with other transmitters.
  12. are you using bigger 7.2 v batteries like a 760 size? contact omnishot, they have been very proactive with me when ihad a adapter fiz out on me.
  13. Yeah the moses needed a bit of tweaking.... I added a rubber tip to mine ( way better ). I found a martial arts Two Handed Thrusting tip @ www.windrosearmoury.com, for 28.00 USD that was perfect. I drilled out the inner spacer I its all cast black india rubber, with a regular hole saw, to get it to sit deeper in the socket. Then, the wiggle issue was addressed with refitting all the pieces with epoxy to take the play out and sinking helicoils into the threaded sections for wear resistance.....
  14. Well we should all be somewhat concerned. I have now seen two back to back high profile shows working with small cameras ( red carbon dragon, new show a alexa M soon to be mini when it delivers, on a Movi 15 with the klassen slingshot and the PLC veracity wheels. they have all but retired the steadicam from the show, The DOP of one show sites it as a mini techno on legs with a flight head in this set up, he himself was skeptical at the outset, but the system is now proven and working well. This is a group of three guys,DOP and both ops, who are all TOP steadicam operators and this is the thrust of their interest now. Times they are a Changing. I am also looking at which brushless gimbal technology to get into and every permutation steadi and not that I can exploit.
  15. any realistic predicitions on when this level assist will come to market? Fall winter?
  16. What Janice Said..... And I'm older than a lot of guys on here.,....almost a geezer...... I think a lot of the negativity you are experiencing is overall frustrations with how the rates and conditions have been going for a long time. You also have the unfortunate situation of being in California where the work is flowing out of , not into. You've just been a convenient target. I have had a long enough career to see people Ive trained and assisted get going, take some of the very work i want for myself, Its just the way it is. Try and keep the rates up. iTs tough when you are struggling, its why i caution young people when they start this career path, to have deep pockets before you start. IT sounds oxymoronic, but the reality is there is only so much work and more people are entering this trade than can comfortably retire competing for the same or less number of good paying jobs. Believe me , no one who was an established operator was delighted when i showed up in Panavision Toronto with a model 2 sled, 22 years ago, and I fell on my face professionally A LOT. Some days in the early years were so bad i would just sit in my car shaking , wondering what the hell i had gotten myself into, and every job i didn't get seemed like a blow from a whip. I know many camera teams I will never get a chance to work with, But with time , you build relationships that are positive and they carry you through the tough times.... There is a great satisfaction in outliving your critics. Take care. Stay level. BH
  17. the new post is significantly better , it slides much more easily and locks and is much stiffer overall. I would say it was well worth the money, the collar locks on the newer J boxes top and bottom are also better, with more threads of engagement and seem to stay dome up tight without any tweaking for months at a time. BH
  18. realistically ... probably not. receivers are getting harder to find. Most clients want a HD picture. So that means schlepping a cable or using a bolt or a arrow, at the least. I have 4 high end analog transmitters in my inventory and ive been unable to attract a buyer for any real mony and they were 4k LIST WHEN THEY WEERE NEW AND HAD EXTENSIVE cable sets for all popular film and video cameras,,,, sorry.:(
  19. I have the center lemo cable......let me know.....Maybe Jack would sell a blank post?
